    Why didn't you just loosen the throttle cables unhook them then you can remove the whole carb with the choke cable intact and work on it on a bench? It's alot easier. Rookies take note.

    Those 4 screws are JIS heads, not regular Phillips. Remember that is a Japanese carb. Getting a JIS screwdriver will help with stripping them.
