Once again, an amazing restoration Dr. Beer... Not perfect, you say? Yes, it is. It is even more than perfect. All your dedication for the sake of making another human being happy, is simply wonderful. The result -really- is something to be proud of and the best thing is, you have made someone very happy; more than that I imagine; the lantern must have sentimental value for him. I predict this is the best gift he has had in a long time. Thanks so much for sharing with us, I was really looking forward to a new project. I really appreciate the trouble and time you are taking with filming and editing the result so meticulously, it is highly appreciated. The patina, you left with enamel, is really an addition to the project. :-)
What are you doing to me???? I sit here reading the comments and try to answer all of them and out of nowhere yours pops up. Thank you so much. knowing that you've been there since a while watching and commenting on my videos is already something. But realizing how you sat down and thinking of and typing such a kind feedback really means the world to me. Thank you so much. See you soon!
You're more than welcome bro. A big thank *you* for sharing your lovely and amazing content; I hope you will keep doing this :-) It is a great honor to see you take the time to read the comments you've been given, but also take the time to comment to those as well :-) I am humbled. How did the recipient respond to the finished product?
My grandfather was a train engineer and worked at the railroad for many years. There is actually an old train lantern mounted outside maybe 20 feet from where I am at this very moment. My grandpa converted it to be an outside light that works with a switch inside. This really makes me wish I could restore it. Not only as an homage to him, but also because the electrics might be old and dangerous. We don't use it much, as it's really just for aesthetics and doesn't provide much light, but it does get occasionally flipped on and it worries me. However, I do still love seeing it work after all these years and love that it reminds me of him.
As an American rail enthusiast who owns some lanterns himself (eight of them from six US railroads), I have to admit that you did a real nice job in restoring that lantern. Hopefully its owner enjoys it for years to come.
Apologies if this is already in the comments - but was your friend's father pleased? I was thinking "this is so wonderful, but what if the father wanted to keep the electrical option?" and then you added it at the end! Your respect for the pieces you're working on is the reason you're my favorite. You can see it in how gently you pulled back the stays on the glass.
Perfect! I agree with another viewer that it's the best one yet. The owner was thrilled no doubt. Great job once again doc. Like your restorations so much it's difficult to watch 90% of the other guys on TH-cam. If you're ever in America I would love to shake your hand!
It was such fun to see you doing this marathon. It's such an honor to know that you liked the videos so much. I'm working on the next project and I'm looking forward to see your name popping of again. Thank you Roger. Where will I find you in the US?

This is more than a labour of love, this is an item with huge sentimental value. You absolutely did it's story justice, and I could not be more impressed with your dedication and attention to detail.
Very well done, good job on leaving the enamel alone, looks better that way. great job on sourcing the lantern for the lamp. making it whole was a wonderful decision. I think I would rate the restoration 9/10 and I doubt I could have done any better.
History is a fantastic tool for learning our future. I think you do on all of your projects. A GREAT job and I could not even think of being so great @ this job. Thank you for the videos you and the TEAM make. Eastern Canada says HI
Alte Menschen brauchen viel Licht (Alterssichtigkeit, Grauer Star, usw.).
The makers and users of this probably could never have guessed how much attention and care this would be given in the future. This was a spectacular restoration. You are so talented, right up there with tysy restoration and my mechanics. You deserve millions of subs.
“I got a new wick, I named it John”. Very good, very good. 😂😂 Excellent job restoring the lamp. Well done. I’m so glad Mr. Patina recommended your channel. I’m enjoying it immensely.
Amazing restoration! I love the brass screws you used and how you combined it with the parts you nickel plated, great contrast to the black color! And it’s so nice of you that you restored this for your friends dad, I’m sure he will enjoy! Thank you very much for that Video Dr. Beer!
Care and detail. You will always get a good result when you take your time. An old Polish window washer (Michael) taught me to always clean glass with slightly dirty soapy water and to use a razor blade with the glass wet to prevent possible scratching. He passed 30+ years ago but his knowledge lives on.
@@NTRprojects I Believe he said the little particles of dirt act like a very mild abrasive. He would sprinkle a small amount of soil from the flower pot into the bucket of soapy water before he started. He also kept a razor blade in his mouth while he cleaned but I don't recommend that one.
Awesome restoration. Guarantee it is now better than it ever was “new”. I’m afraid my OCD would have forced me to redo the enamel inside the shades. You did well to resist the urge! Cheers! ~ John from Ohio, USA
