The worlds most uncomfortable person being interviewed by the worlds most intimidating person
Brendan Peahl lmao right?
Hahahaha! Perfect.
Rivers is a great example of how serious low self esteem is. No matter how many people love him and so many of us absolutely adore him. I know plenty of gorgeous women that would love to be with him. Women throw themselves at him and he still has self esteem issues. On a positive note....that is in part what makes him so endearing. Others in his situation get cocky and entitled and turn people off. Rivers (such as others that get cocky) earn love for what ever it is that inspires people. So Rivers got that love initially for writing music that influences millions and then he gets tons of more love because his character. People with low self esteem actually have very admirable and positive qualities. It is humility and being humble as well as respect, love, and a desire to connect with your fellow human beings that makes you feel inferior. It isn't necessarily about feeling inferior...it is the lack of feeling superior.
poor guy
So which one is which?
Rivers acts like hes the ages 9, 37, and 81 years old all at once
But.. What about 48...?
Cos he’s answering questions from a dinosaur who has zero interest in the Sri next matter. Can somebody stop using Larry - his interviews are embarrassing
He's a Gemini!
Great description… that is hilarious
@@bobbybobby3070 Well Rivers is a boring nerd so ...
Rivers seems so genuine and relaxed in this interview. It's refreshing not to see him acting awkward and distant. What a lovely chap.
He really is a genuine guy. Around 2008 I was having a pretty bad time being mobbed and defamed after a close friend destroyed our band and herself, and I wrote to him on Myspace asking how he handles those kinds of bad vibes. He wrote back and was really supportive. I had no friends at the time, which I took pretty hard. He treated me exactly the way that I treat people who are feeling down. It was really nice of him, because I didn't want to bother him, but he understood that. Everything he writes is really who he is, and when EWBAITE was released, every song underscored what was happening in my life at that time as well. For a pop artist Rivers is really in there and knows what people need to hear sometimes.

I adore his awkwardness.
agree-definitely no ego considering his talents!
@@carmennunez2400 completely agree, couldn't have put it better myself.
Rivers is the type of artist I admire the most. He doesn't care about the industry and business bullshit, he just does his thing, which is creating music he're comfortable with and putting it out there for people to hear it. Whether it gets successful or not, he goes back to the shack to work on new stuff.
+Mladen T Well that's true to an extent but he's also extremely self-conscious and can become somewhat defensive at times, which is understandable considering music is such a personal expression unique to the individuals who produce it. If you look at the trajectory of the albums in weezer's career, you notice that most if not all of the albums were attempts at rectifying problems either critically, sales-wise, or problems the band felt needed to be addressed from the album before it. So to an extent the critics, sales, fans and detractors all have an external influence on the creation of the music even if it's not completely apparent initially...
Those are some very good points. Thoug I'm not sure if it came to rectifying because he himself didn't feel like he was on the right track or to please the critics and boost sales.
Mladen T A bit of both really, after Pinkerton failed commercially the Green album was an attempt to recapture fans and the Blue vibe, it worked to an extent but the complaints were that the album was too safe, so Maladroit was an attempt to inject variety to the sound, however the complaints were that it was inconsistent and lacking a personal quality, which Make Believe tried to address, complaints with that album was that while it was emotional it was somewhat insincere and stale. The Red album was an attempt to again experiment and add variety to their sound that ultimately backfired as the album was unfocused and experimental for the sake of experimental. Raditude again tried to streamline the sound, well no need to explain what was wrong about raditude, it was barely a weezer album with all the hack guests and "professional" songwriters writing everything, not to mention Pat didn't feel like playing the drums mostly. Hurley tried to redeem weezer but the damage was already done and the album was too safe and was a rushed unpolished mess. Then Ewbaite happened which was a focused effort at rebooting the classic weezer sound with a modern edge, the album was balanced, took a few risks, and was well produced and you could see the effort and time they put into it. Furthermore, the White album continues this upward trend and I'm stoked that weezer are just being weezer right now, and done with pandering to fans, critics etc.
That summed up the last 20 years of Weezer perfectly. What an interesting discography they have.
@hooray yyy I actually haven't really listened to the post white albums in full. Just heard singles, but that was enough to convince me to skip Pacific daydream and the black album, I liked the first song from van weezer though. Have they released the full album yet?
Larry: "How long do you see Weezer going on?" *leans back, crosses arms, and smirks* (asked like a grandpa to a grandson wondering when Rivers will get a "real job")
@Traxxattaxx SAVAGE
Lollll
It's funny that Larry has never heard of Bach, given that they were born in 1685.
Yeah, weird when Larry said that. I think he just misheard him or something.
😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😭
"That's jazz?" 😵
🤣
That was odd. Bach is best!
This was recorded to mimic Larry's actual hearing capabilities
literally put my computer on full volume and I'm still struggling to hear Rivers, how does a channel with 400k subs have such terrible sound design lmao
Ok, so it’s not just me. I’m not struggling through a half hour of this.
LOL..bwahahaha
Wish I had an awesome name like Rivers Cuomo.
Nerflover10097 you can change your name. you didn't choose your first, middle, or last name. sure, family name is important but imagine if you were hitler's kid.
Yeah but it's interesting how he was named Rivers because he was born between the East and West Hudson Rivers in Manhattan.
Nerflover10097
parents have to pick from 4,950,192 possible names for their kid. i am so scared of picking a name for my future kid/s. obviously, whatever i pick was meant to be but i will have to scour for days for a name for my kid/s. i'll find 1 name then think, "there's no way i'll find better but i might as well check for an hour." *15 seconds later* "oh my god! this name is amazing too. ahhhH!"
sorry. it just blows my mind that people even have names before they're 5 years old.
All I can say to that is good luck.
Right?!
"Do You Guys Have a Rival Band?"
"The Rentals"
Rivers is so intelligent and well-spoken, and he’s got a great sense of humor. I’ve been a Weezer fan since I was a teen in the 90’s and he’s just gets better with age :)
Hes so hot
I was binging Weezer interviews and honestly I'm so proud of Rivers. I watched one from the 90's and he gave short answers and didn't make eye contact. And now in this one he's talking and giving longer answers, making eye contact. Of course he's still awkward, but that's just Rivers.
he's really softspoken. i enjoy listening to him
Larry King basically aims his questions to an audience who hasn't heard of the artists and are mainly over 65
Rivers is in one of the biggest bands on earth and is pretty humble .
everyones gotta like at least one weezer song..great band
12:36 I found the conversation on meditation very fascinating. He seems so grounded, earnest, and humble as an artist.
I feel like Rivers Cuomo is a smart guy with a lot of smart things to say. I just can't fucking hear him.
Rivers just doesn't give a shit about anything
Rivers Kobain
its "Cobain" actually.
"dont give a hoot about what you think"
Tyler Birkedal it's "Cuobain" actually
It's levioosa
Rivers first answer to the “if you only knew” section at the end “I wish everyone was totally happy, all the time” we don’t deserve him 😭😭
Rivers does not look a day over 25 :) He's adorable.
ikr, and he is 46
For real girl, you nailed it. Plus he went to freakin' Harvard. I mean come on.
Can I have him?
I'd say he looks like a super healthy 35 or 36. Either way he looks crazy young 4 his age
what a cutie lol 🔥
"do you guys have a rival band?"
"Foo fighters, only bc the drummer for my old band is the founder....."
It's a testament to Rivers' level of chill that he can stay calm and try to engage sincerely in the face of Larry King's shithouse interviewing. From what I gather, Rivers used to be quite neurotic... so good for him. I know this is Larry King's every day job, but this is pretty disrespectful
'Do you like it when your music is leaked?' ... Great question.
4:22 haha
Larry King: "You do a lot of concerts?"
(Rivers stares at Larry King)
Rivers: "Does Weezer do a lot of concerts now?" "I'd say about 100 a year."
hahaha that was a WTF moment
well Larry asked about Matt Sharp so Rivers then talked about the Rentals, then Larry randomly asked an impromptu question about concerts while Rivers still had Matt & the Rentals on the mind; and then Larry asked another Matt question
Rivers is dope
Indeed.
So is his nose
I'm glad that first minute was there, because it prepared me for the same material in the second minute.
I really miss his old stuff, I wish he would just suck it up and do another Honey I Shrunk the Kids sequel.
wasn't he the villain in Heroes?
I literally had too turn it all the way up too hear the people speaking. Then my ears bled when the ad played. Get the sound crew to get the levels right or fire them.
This was recorded to mimic Larry's actual hearing capabilities
Travis Carpenter haha you commented that twice
I think that Rivers is doing really well in the interview, and I can see he is an awesome person. Weezer have always been one of my most favourite artists of all time, and they are always at times make great music. Godbliss them always.
Can't believe Larry King thought that JS Bach was Jazz
notbenny
I know!
He might be have heard Jacques Loussier's trio jazz arrangements of the well tempered clavier, and that might be causing the confusion.
+notbenny Haha. That threw Rivers so much. He was struggling to respond because he didn't want to correct the host or imply he didn't know who Bach was. He's such a nice guy.
notbenny pay attention to the pause he takes (not quick to react negatively due to the meditation he was talking about) and then uses careful words to not seem insulting or like he's bigger than someone for knowing something they don't. that's a pretty good trait
Larry King knows only two things: Larry King, and being terrible at his job. Norm MacDonald doing Larry King would’ve done a better interview
Larry King is dying right in front of him.
Christian Russell lol
Larry King doesn't look like a day over 90
I don't know why I am laughing so hard at this, but I am! Thank you kind sir!
I want to upvote for Rivers and downvote for Larry, so... even. But your comment made me lol +1
I thought he died about 5 years ago-but apparently still livin' ! LOL
This entire interview.
Larry: what do you think about this?
Rivers:Idk
King really doesn't know who rivers is. Hes just asking basic questions.
He’s also not asking his own questions. I get that not knowing much about your subject can work for you. Maybe not here as the questions come across as random and superficial.
@@mrtulipeater Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I kinda liked that he didn't know he went to Harvard after the blue album, it's refreshing to hear somebody who doesn't know all the Cuomo "lore."
hes too old at this point and doesnt even care to try anymore .. but I think he's always been like this tho, I remember the Seinfeld interview
Larry needs to learn how to acknowledge. Would make it more like a conversation rather than an interrogation.
You know what; I enjoyed this way more than all the Fallon/Kimmel/Conan etc. style interviews where the interviewer and interviewee are intended to come off as best pals, they name drop mutual friends, and re-tell anecdotes they told each other backstage... all so fake, and they never get into anything deep. Rivers is really at ease and opening up because he trusts the interviewer.
Weezer is such an underated band, and what I love about them is that they aren't writing heaps of depressing songs but songs that make you happy while some still have a great heavy distorted rock sound.
This guy is responsible for some of the greatest albums in rock music and he seem like a beaten dog. Its kinda sad. I am not a huge Weezer fan per se, i know pretty much all their hits and i owned their first few albums (i am of that generation). He has absolutely no reason to be apologetic for his career/influence.
pied a' terre EXACTLY
Larry sits with a pop genius, but he doesn't know. Rivers is so cool and great here.
*rock genius
Weezer isn't that popular
Buzz0 being popular is NOT equal yo being good
Love Weezer all we can do as fans is to thank you for all the music you have given us and appreciate the work they put into it. God bless you guys
I haven’t enjoyed all of Weezers discography but damn I love Rivers. Such a nice soul.
God he's so beautiful. He has the sweetest, sparkliest eyes.
ruthie chapman eew not Larry King
Eww, hes like 80 years old girl!
You're talking about rivers, right?
Agreed. And Rivers is not too bad either
Larry Kings 👀
Larry king is weezing during this whole interview lol
Larry: "are you all friends"
Rivers, without any hint of hesitation: "yea"
Sounds more like a job interview.
So soft spoken I have my volume all the way up and I can still barely hear him
"working on stuff in my garage"
He has Ace Frehley, he has Peter Criss
Gabe Elias
Waiting there for him, yes he does. He does.
That’s where he feels safe and no one cares about his ways.
Gabe Elias and nightcrawler too
And he loves everyone waiting there for him
His guilty pleasure is black tea?! Wow. What a bad boy! He's such a nerd I love it.
Weezer isn't talking to Larry King, he's talking to a version of himself thirty years from his own future. Either that or this literally looks like a Father and Son interview.
+Try Whistling This ok I laughed.
Andrew Hutchison I came.
Debonaire Nerd lol
I want to hear why Weezer and the Foo Fighters are rival bands from his point of view
Yeah for real. Why was that not explored?
@@CITUAS Why? Because Larry is terrible at what he does.
It's a tongue and cheek joke.
@@jeremyhoffman6187 no one seems to grasp that lol
Since when has this been a thing? Never heard of them having beef
"How do you feel about that long rocker hair you had in the beginning?" LOL HINT HINT
Larry should invest in a sound engineer. I have to listen to his super loud voice, to barely hear his interviewee then the bumper music is even louder. Really takes you out of it.
This was recorded to mimic Larry's actual hearing capabilities
@@bogiepull3r LOL
Listening through headphones the bumper music is heavy metal loud.
Imagine if Larry and Rivers did this interview back in the 90s
rivers seems like the nicest guy in the universe
The lack of fucks and general contempt from King is hilarious. Specially the meditation part.
This interview feels like jay Pritchett and Phil having a conversation
16:36 Now that line from Opining Night makes more since
Larry King got the greatest man who ever lived?! Awesome!
the greatest man _that_ ever lived
Rivers is on the level...... stay humble, all that glitters is gold bro.
Larry was such a good interviewer.
20:09 where Larry King doesn't know who Bach is lolol
How dare you 3 jerks thumbs down. Shame on you, Weezer is fucking awesome. Period.
FKNA YEAH people are thumbjng down larry kings old ass who didnt even bother to research weezer. he just brought rivers on for a little attention
“What music do you like?”
“Bach, The Well-Tempered Clavier. I could listen to it every day.”
“Jazz.”
21:01 my heart leaps- true love at last!
Could Larry King seem any more blasè, and disinterested?
kult38 Agree. He's too old and done too many interviews.
He’s like that in every interview now. I mean at his age, he’s just do disconnected it’s obvious he doesn’t know half the people he’s interviewing (probably more)
*so
He's so effing old I mean he would be this clueless and disinterested it he were talking to Paul McCartney. Any artist he would know or be able to relate to died 20 years ago.
10:42 hes just where he feels safe and no one cares about his ways
pls i started singing when he said this
his voice is so.., soft
Weezer Blue & Pink is Rivers being angry teen. Post 90s is Rivers meditate. I should do that.. my wife would lovee that
he hadn’t started his mediation practice until after the Green album or Maladroit.
I just bought tickets for Weezer!!!!!!!! Im so excited man oh man
How was it?
Who the heck hates Weezer?
Dark Vader no one
Me
A lot of people lol. I love and hate them at the same time. Blue, Pinkerton, White, Alone and songs from the black hole are amazing. Green, Red[like half of the songs], Teal, Hurley, and Everything will be Alright in the End and Maladroit are really good, Make Believe the other half of Red are forgettable, and Raditude. One good song. The rest of that album, burn it with fire. Raditude is by far Weezer's worst.
Lots of people hate Weezer but they're always haters.
@@PostMetropolitanBard5043 okay I can't argue with some of that. But for the most part the overall Weezer catalog is about as impressive as you could get. I hear "Beverly Hills" and some other songs from that album and feel sick so I definitely feel you on the love/hate thing I guess.
Rest in peace Larry King ❤️
Bach. Jazz?
I want to hear Bleeding Gums Murphy play the Well Tempered Clavier now
Does Rivers Cuomo remind anyone else of a mixture of a less emotional Stephen Colbert and Johnny Knoxville from Jackass?
He fucking has Johnny Knoxville's eyes omg
UberMikeSocal and Steve from blues clues
UberMikeSocal Throw some Rick Moranis in and lol.
he kind of looked like drake bell in the buddy holly music video
Rivers and Johnny used to be friends so they probably have similar mannerisms and fashion styles
be yourself rivers, we love you.
I member when rivers was in local band in hollywood (late 80s early 90s) called ZOOM he was such a nice guy. Been so cool to see his success. Always been fan of weezer was tripped out when i found out he was the singer back when the blue album came out. His poor shoes had holes in themmmm. Not aaannymore!
I’d love to hear Billy Joel or Sir Paul jam with Rivers!!!
Compare him in interviews today to how he was in the 90s. Holy shit
Rivers looks like hes talking to his School Headmaster, or is it just me? btw i love weezer
I nearly shot coffee out through my nose at this comment. lol
I think what he was trying to say about critics praising bands that don't write good melodies is they always tend to lean towards bands that are more abstract. I get that.
I saw Larry King at dinner! But it might have just been a run of the mill goblin.
If you made a venn diagram comparing and contrasting the similarities and differences between politics and Rivers Cuomo, the circles would be so far apart, they’d be “Across the Sea”
Saw them last night in MPLS, great show
Cuomo, "Bach's Well Tempered Clavier..." King, "That's jazz right?" lol......
This is my first time watching Larry king and I am not impressed. Rivers rocks though
I hadn’t listened to EWBAITE in awhile. That Future-Scope trilogy of I. The Wasteland, II. Anonymous & III. Return to Ithaka is really good
Bach... That's jazz!
this shit is like...somthing out of a weezer video!
I honestly could of written better questions than this.. really... why weezer... serioulsy?? Sounds like a college university radio show type of questions......
Well, Rivers answers are worst than Larry's questions. Every response is like "I don't think about that". Come on, you have been doing this for almost 30 years and you don't have better answers?
This interview has the same atmosphere as it would if Larry King was River's school teacher questioning his half-assed homework and River's is trying to bullshit his way through so he can go and smoke a beer.
6:43 I think he teared up a little bit there
Best part of interview 19:55 when cuomo talks about the well-tempered clavier
Rivers is the man as always
It sucks how he cut him off often
Why is the audio so low??? They micd up Larry but not rivers
Damn Larry, do you realize who youre interviewing here? Ya better recognize
OMG I genuinly thought it would be Johnny Knoxville interview :D
Larry is very concerned about the food situation visa vis the meditation
Disappointed that Larry didn't do proper research for this interview. "Did you want to pursue music at Harvard?" x.x
Research?! I don't think King even knows what planet he's on anymore at this point.
The audio is so horrible my cpu is on full volume and can barely hear a thing
WE LOVE YOU RIVERS
I love the part where Larry King yells "Get off my lawn!"
10:47 i got goosebumps hes looking STRAIGHT at me
