this Jimny JB74W with a few practical upgrades; i.e. tyres and a suspension kit {BFG KM3 215/75r15 & ARB OME} will allow it to go with the 37in XJ,YJ et al, climb and descend any off the severe beaten track, no problem
Not sure about the Jimny's gearbox, but I have seen such a modification done by some on the last-gen Swift Sport, so I don't see why you couldn't. Also, re your diff question, unfortunately locking differentials aren't available for the Jimny, although again, there may be aftermarket solutions for that problem.
Hartsa We explain this in more detail in our full written review on our website which is linked in the description, but primarily, it comes down to the shorter gearing of the five-speed helping it feel far punchier than the lethargic four-speed auto.
Comical, won't take it into the outback.. i have passed the black stump in NSW several times, i live in Darwin NT. The jimnys are little troopers, bar the small tank size and only taking what you need they will take you everywhere.

Local Adelaidean here, just wondering what trail you're on there? Definitely keen to check it out when I get my Jimny!
Could you swap out the fifth gear for one that cruises better on freeways?

Can you lock the diffs?
Why The manual version is much better than automatic?
