If you want to know something that's funny that's the most viewed Killswitch Engage video on TH-cam I can't find any of the video with any more views in this one but also this video was uploaded in 2007 when basically nobody used TH-cam
@@treverpitts absolutely! I created my acc around that time, feeling old now. Good stuff though. I remember watching this video right before I picked up the guitar and now I’m 13 years in!
This vid actually started my guitar journey back in 2007. My dream came true in 2012 when i joined a band and played gigs in Amsterdam for a couple of years. All thanks to you trever ❤
I first watched this video in 2008, I was all of 14 and beginning my journey on guitar. Here I sit at 30 and can seriously attribute this video being a main reason I followed the path I did. Thanks man
You and me both man, was showing a friends kid who's learning guitar this video last night and told them the same story. I got this out of a guitar world magazine when I was just a kid for Christmas, and I'm still playing the riffs wrong to this day!
This was the video/song/band that made me realise I wanted to play guitar, and this video was crucial for me to learn how to play this song properly, no better way to learn than watching the masters, which is what these guys are to me, Adam and Joel are definitely my guitar gods/idols 🖤🤘🎸
I love how Adam gives a knod every time they finish a riff. Finally some guys on this channel that have their act together. Tons of the shredders on this channel either sound like buffoons when they speak, or are sloppy ass out of the studio.
That's how you know, when you got talent. Those guys make it look so, easy! I'm a girl, and I can tell you, that I was in total "awe" in watching them play that beautiful guitar riff, of one of my favorite songs, ever! I just loved it!
Anytime somebody asks me for an example of motivic development in metal, I always turn to this song. They took one little idea with those 3 chords and made it into a masterpiece and each section builds off the last.
What DrOctatonic said is absolutely correct. For 2 and a half years I could never get pinched harmonic squeals out of my guitar no matter how many tutorials and videos I watched regarding the technique. I never realized it was such a gear-dependent element of music until I switched out the stock EMG pickups with Seymour Duncan, plugged into a Marshall half stack, cranked up the gain, and voila: pinched harmonics with barely any effort.
did u changed the string gauge ? I have hard time to have consistancy on my pinch harmonics, I changed pickups less thant 1 year ago to KSE fishman fluence signature pickups but its still quite hard to hit a good pinch harmonic .
Adam is explaining the guitar parts almost like he is embarrassed of them or doesn't think much of them. :D Like. Dude! This is one of the most iconic modern metal tunes ever!
Adam is just a dude who doesn't take a lot of things serious if you've ever seen him live. Like I did on the 17th of this month he was running around in the crowd playing his guitar I think that's why it comes off as he doesn't think much of the music
they make it look easy... and this song is actual quite easy to learn... i just think its funny how joel plays the simple parts... and the fact that they use carparison guitars
Just revising a video that I actually watched seventeen years ago when it was uploaded. I was heavily invested in these riffs. And today it's still part of me.
Vincent Portais bruh i cant get my squealies like this either. It's only on the low e string.... anywhere else on the fretboard i can get teh squealies :((((
Wasn't Adam originally the drummer?? If so, then he's really talented! Drums, guitar, writes songs, sings and screams. And he seems like a really funny and weird guy.
17 years after seeing this video I still come back to looking how Adam plays the verse riff and I still can't understand how he just effortlessly glides over the fretboard with seemingly barely moving his left hand
Thanks for the comment and watching. To this day I still think people don't give kill switch engage their credit they deserve as being badass musicians
Both amazing guitarists. But Joel in my opinion has the ideal tone. It's basically the same as Adam's but from what I know he uses an EMG 85 in the bridge instead of the 81. The 85 has more thickness to it.
trever pitts metallica? they can't play like real professionals. the are very sloppy. very very veeeeeery sloppy. they came from punk rock, i believe. but.. somehow they became very famous.
+Nathan Ostrogonac In this video Adam D is using an 85 as well. He uses an 85 in the bridge of his Caparison PLM. He switched to the 81 when he moved onto Parker, but then started using passive pickups after he left. He's back with Caparison, but I'm not sure if he's using the 81 or 85.
Joel wasn't doing too good, and he decided to drop out. But man, did it ever work out for him. Two of the best, and two of the more underrated guitar players of all time. Love these guys
They're "Pinch Harmonics". Basically you have to be on the bridge pickup and when you pick, have your thumb very close to the edge of the pick so that you actually "shave" the string with the thumb. The best way to start with pinch harmonics is to keep trying one fret at a time (like the 5th fret on the G string) and moving the pick up/down the neck as you pick till you get the wanted harmonic. Hope it helps.
@breachmania slap your thumb against the string a little when you down pick, then bend the string around a little. You can slap it in different places to get different sounds
it's called a pinch harmonic, it is the result of using very little of your pick and letting the string slightly hit your finger. It's hard to explain but that's as close as i can get, hope it helps.
(1:48) those verse riffs on any of their songs are extremely killer And unique at the same damn time! Those riffs would slice up any other band's riffs (on my opinion)
Glad you brought that up. I need to get a metronome. I also play a lot of chromatic scales but it seems like I can't punch through my current skill level. Oh well....it's at least fun (if not monotonous to try).
yeah he was the drummer in the first album then he jumped on guitar on the alive or just breathing album because his back issues messed with him and yea he also screams for backup vocals hes also a producer he has his own record label which i believe parkway drive is on it
alright, thanks man, i'll try it. ive tried pinch harmonics before and couldnt do it, but im a much better guitarist now so ill give it a try. good luck figuring it out!
@ChrisMenchue It is called a Pinch Harmonic (also known as an: Artifical Harmonic). I'm not gonna pretend Im PERFECT at them but what u do is: Play the note as u normally would HOWEVER insted of just picking normally, you lightly touch the string with the side of your thumb. There will be LOADS of videos on here for it. Hope that helps, good luck and God bless.
these guitars are caparisons from japan, but adam(left) has his own signature parker guitar and joel(right) is working on his caparison signature model.
Yup you can try to do squealies all day but if your gear isn't right then you won't be able to make it happen. Need the right pickups at the right distance from the strings and you need the right amp.
there's only one drop C which is tuned everything down to D, which would be 1 fullstep down, and then the deep E string one more full step down to C so that your deepest powerchord would be a C5 without touching any string
"Clean intro thingy." hah. Things like that show that they're still a bunch of goobers like the rest of the world. Just goobers, that are awesome, and have great talent. Love this song, love playing it too, intro and chorus is so catchy, and fun to play, and everything else just flat out rocks. It's great when bands take time out to make videos like this. it's helpful to those who want to learn, and just fun to watch. oh, and thank you for uploading it lol
CGCFAD - This can be described as "standard D tuning with a dropped C", where the entire guitar is transposed to the key of D, then the low D is moved down an additional whole step to C. And this is what most bands use when they say they use "drop c tuning"
To this day, this is still melodically one of my favorite songs on guitar ever written
its a great song a super underrated band when it comes to saying who's the best guitar players
@Chance Ray wtf? 😂
@Gerardo Ashton what kind of fucking scamming is happening on this comment from 2 years ago? 😂
ever!
Trilogy : My Curse, The Arms of Sorrow & The End of Heartache
I genuinely think the intro is still one of the greatest guitar riffs ever
You’re not wrong
Adam is soo right though, KSE's got really unique riffs compared to most metalcore, always love the originality of the group.
Law Dawg
In a Dead World has my favorite riff. very unique
Love to lifeless is killer also
tjey both went to school for it. joel dropped out and adam graduated with a degree for bass playing. so they understand HOW to write. and what fits.
Officially the best sound harmonics I've EVER heard!!
And in one of the most original riffs at that.

@@AlexBrazhnikovBFE точняк!
It's truly amazing what this band can do with those three (3) simple chords. Excellent song writing.
Adam's slowed down verse riff at 2:31 sounds very sludgy like early Soundgarden. Love it.
That's Joel's part
Incredible. This video is 15 years old and the uploader updates it to have chapters. Impeccable.

The verse riff grooves so fucking hard lol. You can hear the dime influence
That's awesome

It doesn’t djent tho
Best sounding pinch harmonics I've ever heard.
You obviously have never heard Zakk Wylde lol
