- ನಾಟಕಕಾರ ಗಿರೀಶ್ ಹೊಸ ನಾಟಕ 'ರಾಕ್ಷಸ ತಂಗಡಿ' ಬರೆದು ಮುಗಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಬಹಳ ದಿನಗಳ ಬಳಿಕ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ವಸ್ತುವನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿ ಬರೆದಿರುವ ನಾಟಕವಿದು. ಇದನ್ನು ಬರೆಯಲು ಪ್ರೇರಣೆಯಾದ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳು, ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು 'ದಿ ಸ್ಟೇಟ್‌'ನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Before you argue with Girish Karnad, ask yourself, ask yourself, are you even mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of different perspectives? Because if not, there is absolutely no point.

karnad says vijaynagar empire is established by krishnadevaraya of tuluvas. No, before him there were many... First by Harihara bukka of sangama dynasty,then saluva ,then tuluvas,last Ramaraya of aravidu dynasty. I Feel bad to listen to this kind of wrong infos. Even during British regime Indian history was not distorted the way it is now. And thanks😩 to people like Karnad for the damage done😠
I believe from his writing and his talk, he meant that vijayanagar read he'd is zenith during the times of krishnadevaraya... if he tries to put saluva and tuluva history in the play takshasa thangadi , it will be a 1000 page research book... a writer needs some liberty to skip few things and make slight changes to the actual plot when he is writing a play on the subject but not a text book...

When artists & so called intellectuals do this ,it's surely for personal and political gains. Imagination of the individual cannot be proof for what they perceive and project in their works.

He explains what he decides to skip from the main story and what he keeps in the play. His plays are reasoned well. There is a reason for every twist the play takes. I admire S L Byrappa and he has put Muslim community in the negative shade at few places in his writing but that is a story and he is not trying to prove anything there and I believe it's the same with Girish Karnad. Girish Karnad openly opposed Modi and Byrappa supports Modi but we as readers need to keep that out while we read their work else we will be missing out the benefit of an unbiased reader is my opinion.
@@sandeshshivaraju5025 G.karnad was an intellectual but a biased person.He and A.murthi were always there to raise the voice of dissent against Hinduism,BJP and S L Bhyrappa. They always knew Byrappa is definitely on a higher intellectual and philosophical level.Acc to me and many Byrappa always writes after great research . What he wrote about Muslim atrocities in his books are not his imagination. He has never taken liberty with history to prove his capabilities nor tried please the ruling parties for name & benefits.

Just observe his body language and way of expression. His views are one-sided and prejudiced. He is trying to please some people by writing this type of play. Everybody knows the history of Vijayanagara, in the name of creativity and freedom of expression he is trying to change the history to get the favour of particular political party. His selective examples and opinions are very dangerous. If he is a true intellect he should have impartial vision. Above all he is not a historian. Gimmick for Cheap popularity. Only God can save this country.

As i read, two Muslim generals of the Vijayanagara army switched sides and turned their loyalty to the united Sultanates. They captured Aliya Rama Raya and beheaded him on the spot..is that true?
Why G.karnad wanted people to think that Hindus plundered Vijay nagar? These so called intellectuals do more harm to a civilisation than wars I feel.Acc to what I have perceived from history books of 60s, Thirumala was instructed by Ramaraya to take all the royals and riches to penokanda in case of losing. So war took place in a far off place like talikota to enable people of Hampi to get enough time to run away. When Muslim Invaders entered,they did not find any riches .With great dissappointment they destructed the most valuable treasures of Hampi, it's ARCHITECTURE. Now it's for us to think twice who killed the soul of vijaynagar empire by destroying such beautiful temples. Definitely not Hindus.

@madhu G once fallen it was looted by many. In 60s and 70s even many sculptures were stolen and sold out side India by present day looters.But Humpi sculptures and temples were definitely not destroyed by Hindu community whether kshatriya,vaishya or bedas for that matter. .

Karnad has, for some time, been working on a play centered around the Battle of Talikota (1565), fought between Ramaraya of the Vijayanagara empire and the united forces of the Deccan sultanate. This work in progress tries to look at what happened at Rakkasa-Tangadi (the villages near where the war was fought) and the build-up to it through an unconventional lens. The play begins with Ali Adil Shah coming to Vijayanagara and being received by Ramaraya warmly. Shah says to him, “You are like my father.”
The plot and the protagonists were far more intriguing than the mainstream narrative that has “whitewashed it into a Hindu-Muslim conflict,” says Karnad. “Ramaraya, who led the Vijayanagara army, was 82 and supported by two brothers who were 75 and 76. On the other side were five Sultans in their 30s and 40s. So in terms of energy and vision, there was no match... If I could write the play it would be interesting because the relationships and complexities are just marvelous!”
Will the play see the light of day soon? “I find it difficult to sit for hours at a stretch now, my head feels heavy,” says Karnad. “The play is almost there but not quite there... If it happens it happens, if not fine...”

Whatever you cannot justify looting and exploiting of subjects of any empire, by a victorious army. They can take over the state treasure but not subjects.
It's unpardonable that they destroyed so many architecture splendour and it was an attempt to destroy hindu beliefs.
Vjnagar empire did same to muslim sulatans after defeating them destroying their capitals, forts,and villages, bringing down the mosque etc for over 2 centuries.. those wer the rules of war in old times no matter if ur hindu or muslim christian etc.. i understand what muslims did not rule hampi rather than destroying it was idiotic move but such was their hate..

He is imagining and making up history to suit his theory and narrative. (1)Vijayanagara was not established by Krishna Devaraya. (2) Assumption: if the battle was fought far away then the loosing king would not have got killed, but let off!? (3) Ali Adil shaha came and fell at the feet of ramaraya to say he is like his father ….what was the reason for this? To me it looks like part of a greater plan to gain trust and to backstab. (4) Ramaraya threw gold to the warriors during the war to encourage them? Wow...A stupid statement!! He is (@12 min)emphasising that NOT JUST BY THE MUSLIM HISTORIANS BUT BY Hindu historian "Harikare" too. Then an elephant razed the battle..this is documented by a muslim historian Rirazi? So Harikare did not describe it fully? (5) Nizamshah before killing ramaraya had a good time chit chatting..then he killed ramaraya. Doesnt this show Nizamshah and Ali Adil shah was hand in glove? (6) it is natural for any loosing king (ramarayas brother thirumala) to flee with as much of valuables as possible. This act cannot be termed as "looting" (7) Fall of any kingdom would be chaos. This does not mean the the kingdom was looted by its own people. Even if this is true..the sultans settling in Hampi to dig all the homes for treasure is good to show they came for the booty and they were looters.

Ram raya was even more ruthless raging unnecessary attack whenever his army enters sultans they use to bury the villages, park their horse in mosque and disrespect muslim women and dont forget he executed Nizam shah's general 'jahangir khan" right infrot of him and played one sultan against eachother almost heartlessly which led to the unification of sultans, Kannada poet kanak dasa predicted all the forcoming and also wrote the song on that when Kannada scholars wer removed from hampi in order to promote Telugu scholars..
