  • The eZip Trailz Commuter is an affordable entry level electric bike with a unique side-mounted chain drive motor that can make truing wheels, replacing tires and fixing flats more difficult. Offers seat post shock, suspension fork, fenders, chain guard and ergonomic grips for comfort. Less powerful 25.6 volt battery, rear heavy design, entry level components all around.

      @@ElectricBikeReview How many volts is the battery 24v. or 36v. I'm looking online for the battery and charger. Some on ebay.I took pitchers of the ezip ebike and the battery inputs where you put the batteries. Before I purchase the batteries I want to make sure it fits and works. Because the way my ezip battery mount looks the shape on both ends looks different from the battery they selling on ebay. Mines has a circle shape on both sides or ends.And the ones they selling on ebay is all square or rectangular.But I hope it fits and works ?? If I can show you a pitcher of the ebike I have let me know ??

  • @tarstarkusz

    With the low speed of the bike, I could easily see a good range. The power needed goes up exponentially with speed. About 80-100 watts at 10mph, 350 at 20mph, a 1000 at 30mph and so on. With the 245.6WH battery, a 140-150lb rider should be able to go about 30 miles on twist so long as you stay at or below 10mph with no hills or wind. I am surprised they have it setup to sit straight up which will lower you range. They should have made an option to go low and be more streamlined.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting point, a more aggressive seating position would definitely improve aerodynamics above 20 mph but in the 10 to 15 mph that you're talking about I think it makes minimal difference and the ergonomics of being bent over (for most riders) aren't worth the trade off, I like that they included a softer saddle and suspension fork to soften things up :)

  • @booobtooober
    @booobtooober 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well... Apparently ezip is out of business. The back mounted motor seems like a good idea, less chain stress on the short two gear setup vs mid mount pulling on the long chain, the derailleur, and the chain while also switching gears which is probably the most stress. I mean I can make the chain skip and jump teeth while shifting just by pedaling hard. But why haven't I seen any other bikes setup like that?

    Is the baterry and the motor water proof?

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alvin, they design the bike to be water resistant but it's definitely not water proof. If submerged or even driven through deep water that covers the motor it will break. The battery and connectors like the throttle are also sensitive. I try to park my ebikes inside and cover sensitive parts with plastic bags if it rains and the bike is locked up outside.

    Just out of curiosity, is there any way to have NO assist whatsoever?

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, if I understand your question correctly, are you just wanting to be able to ride the bike normally with no assist at all? This bike really has three ways to ride as follows:
      1. Leave the bike off and pedal like normal, choose from one of seven gears (all on the rear cassette) one is a large gear that helps you to climb hills more easily. You could even remove the battery pack to make the bike extra light! The pack weighs 5 lbs.
      2. Turn the battery on and select the pedal assist mode (PAS) and now when you pedal the bike it activates the motor at 50% to help you out. It makes pedaling easier and will help you up hills but you have to keep pedaling for the motor to run.
      3. Turn the battery on and select the twist and go mode (TAG) and now when you twist the throttle on the right grip the motor will activate from 0% to 100% depending on how far you twist. In this mode you don't have to pedal at all!
      As a side note, you can also twist the throttle while you are in pedal assist mode and instead of just getting 50% assist it will go up to 100% for more power. In all electric modes, the motor can really only get the bike up to ~15 miles per hour. In the USA the legal limit for ebikes is 20 miles per hour in throttle mode and 28 in pedal assist mode :)

    • @Taggerung
      @Taggerung 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the help...I only have one more question I've had for a long time. WHY is the speed for an e-bike regulated, or restricted to a certain speed? I hope you can answer this, but if not, could you tell me who could? Thanks, again.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Taggerung Sure, the speed is regulated in order to help it classify as a bicycle instead of a scooter, moped or other vehicle which would require a drivers license and insurance. By keeping the speed < or = 20 mph in twist throttle mode and < or = 28 mph in pedal assist mode it stays as a bike! The laws are different in Europe, I believe they sometimes limit to 15 mph and their motor sizes can only be up to 250 watts vs. 750 in the USA :)

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Paul, I've had mixed experiences with hill climbing on the Trailz. It works well enough but these days mid-drives offer superior torque by leveraging the drivetrain (depending on how many gears the bike has etc.) so I've kind of had to adjust and try to communicate strengths without over communicating them. It's a solid bike, do you own this one or have you just tried it?

      ElectricBikeReview.com I have a couple of Currie's scooters that I bought about 15 years ago. I recently had to replace the 2 SLA batteries ($45 for both) in each scooter and that's the only maintenance I've needed. Being scooters, I have probably never gone more than 5 miles at one time on them but they'll climb pretty steep hills easily and go a little over 10 mph. Here's what they look like: www.electricscooterparts.com/images3/curriescootescooter.jpg
      Currie is a pioneer in this industry and I have high regard for the performance of their product. That's why I'm checking out their bikes before I buy something. I did discover they don't have a communication channel, though and want you to contact a dealer for everything. That doesn't sit well with me.

    Would you transportize your kids on a e bike ?

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I don't have kids but I do have a younger sister! I used to pull her around in a bike trailer and they do have electric bike trailers now! www.ridekick.com/kids/
      Of course there is always the front car-seat style rack from Yepp that is very popular and there is also a small sized ebike from Pedego that could work when they get older electricbikereview.com/pedego/24-cruiser/
      I think it depends on how comfortable you are as a rider. The handle bar mount seat thing could be dangerous if you crash whereas the trailer is pretty stable. If there is a lot of traffic where you live that is also something to consider if they are riding on their own. Hope this helps!

    When you add insurance + chance of an accident. Which if you have one your putting your hand in your pocket big time. Plus gasoline. Plus, cops. Plus the time lost in travel. Plus stress. Plus price of car. Plus repairs. You subtract that from an 18 dollar an hour job. Your better served working in a gas station or pet shop 5 blocks from your house. Than you ever will be driving 15 to 20 miles to career job. Such??....is the state of our roads, accidents, and drivers today.

  • @tarstarkusz

    Power is what matters, not voltage. You could make a very powerful motor that runs on 24V. What is so disappointing is the battery and price. This thing should cost $250 tops. It's low end and not very pretty and uses typical dept store sizes.
    But what about this seat shock? I've never ridden a bike with a seat post shock and I would really be concerned with hip/knee problems. The distance between the seat and pedals shouldn't change, if you bounce, you go to low and on the way back up, you will go higher and cause hip pain. I suppose if you are willing to drive around with the seat too low, it might work, but you won't be using your legs as efficiently as you could. That front fork is going to seize up in 6 months of riding (assuming you ride it every day, like to work). Batteries have been a problem for 100 years and you never really make up the up front cost because good batteries are expensive.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the input, could you please help me understand where battery Voltage plays a role? I was under the impression that a high wattage motor would perform best when paired with a higher voltage battery ie. 350 watt motor + 36 volt battery is right on and then a 500 watt motor + 48 volt battery is also a good match. I've never seen a 500 watt motor with a 24 volt battery running it and so I've been lead to believe that higher voltage is not only more efficient at transferring electricity but also offers more power... I suppose current also plays a role. learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/voltage-current-resistance-and-ohms-law#voltage

    • @evva1974
      @evva1974 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ElectricBikeReview.com The higher the voltage the faster the motor spins, the higher the wattage of the motor the more it will handle the developing heat from the high voltage and current.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Everton Burrell Awesome, thanks for the clarity Everton :)

    • @tarstarkusz
      @tarstarkusz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ElectricBikeReview.com
      Actually the voltage of the battery doesn't really matter because a controller could adjust that. But the thinner wire means more winding and a faster moving wheel and less heat like Everton Burrell mentioned. I didn't see your initial reply to me, sorry it took so long to get back. Maybe you could answer me a question: Why do the internally geared hubs use plastic gears? I can't think of a dumber thing to do. Metal gears would only slightly increase the weight while making the motor last a lot longer. Further, metal gears are EVERYWHERE, cheap with over 100 years of manufacturing in high quantity/quality. Hundreds of millions of transmissions and differentials are made every single year and that's just automotive. They are all over the place in manufacturing. There are whole industries built around metal gears. Even (standard) internally geared hubs for bicycles use metal gears:)

    • @evva1974
      @evva1974 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is even more cheaper to use plastic. If they use metal the motor would not break easily, resulting in less people replacing, companies making less profit.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And for $100 you can buy a crappy house in Detroit... but it will cost you a lot more in the long run, just like a crappy car. Think about the cost of getting and maintaining a license, insurance, oil changes, tune ups and gas. Ebikes don't have all of those expenses and if you look on Craigslist you can find a crappy ebike for $100 as well in many large cities.
