I've noticed my 15 Pro getting really warm quickly too. I'm hoping Apple optimizes things a LOT with iOS 18 and the iPhone 16. But the status quo isn't great.
hi there - it's so odd how only a week or so before I'd said I'd had no issues, and then this happened to me! Yeah, let's hope that iOS 18 and whatever battery improvements they bring to the 16s help matters out! 🙏🏻
I hear you. My iPhone 15 Pro Max with 97% battery health can go from 100% of battery to 60% in just two hours by playing a few videos on TH-cam for 30 minutes...
hey Matt - I'm spending my morning working through the comments and the feedback has been really positive! Expect more to come. Question for you...if I were to sit and do my re-cap video of Monday's event in this style, would that appeal to you? 🤔
@@DavidLewisTech it would indeed. I work in the tech industry and will be watching in to see what we can get that might work for our clients - and I’d like to see an iPad Mini for me to get too 🙂
yeah - the rumours of an iPad mini seem to be gathering pace. As you know I've just got into iPad life this year, so I'll add one of those to the shopping list too if they get announced Matt
@@DavidLewisTech glad you’re enjoying it. I have lost track of how many I have had - I think it’s 6 now (first gen iPad, iPad Mini 1, iPad Mini 2, iPad Pro 2017 12.9”, iPad Pro 2018 11”, and now the M4 iPad Pro 13) I am debating replacing my 11” next year when it finally rolls out of support as I do value the smaller option but like the larger one for desk based work, many times more than my MacBook Pro. I guess we’ll see regarding the iPad mini - I got into the mini iPhone for the brief time it was around, but back on a 15 Pro Max now for a few years. Interested to see where you go with the channel - iPad life is certainly good but I sadly can’t get all I need doing just on the devices, and I doubt we’ll ever see MacOS on them because it would lose massive swathes of revenue.
hi Matt - it sounds as if we won't be seeing the new iPad mini or Mac mini on Monday if the rumours are to be believed. My shopping list for next week looks likely to be the 16 Pro Max, AirPods 4 and possibly a watch - but I'm unsure about that last one... Catch you Monday!
Sounds like a chip issue. Bad battery (efficiency) and overheating. It certainly shouldn't be a problem for the top of the line iPhone. Anyways I liked this video format. It feels more like a conversation rather than a fixed structure.

I honestly had the best time - like you said, it was just like I was sitting down and having a chat with some mates! Hopefully, I can do more of these style of videos. Thanks for the feedback 🙏🏻
Videos like this are important to portray real life experiences. iPhone 25 Pro Max phones are supposed to be premium workhorses aimed at power users. We need to know what can happen when we expect to be able to rely on such expensive products. Nice one 👍🏻
hi David - in balance, that's what I thought. I was just a guy using his phone on a day out. I thought it might be interesting for a few folks to hear what happened to me with what is an expensive flagship phone... Thanks as ever for taking the time to comment and watch 🙏🏻

amazing Tom - thank you for the honest feedback. I was nervous as heck before uploading, but it just felt right if you know what I mean. There will be more of these for sure. Thanks again for watching, subbing and commenting 🙏🏻
Hey David! Just wanted to say that I've experienced the exact same with heat.. similar to you it's been these past few months that it's been really bad. What's mental is that I originally bought the iPhone 15 Pro.. heavily used it until May and sold it with 100% battery health. This iPhone 15 Pro Max I replaced it with in JUNE with similar usage has already dropped to 98% health and much more heat issues 🌟
hi there - I'm so glad I sat down to make this video this week. It seems to have resonated. Your story is a shocker though! To drop that much that quickly isn't very good - and to consider this is their most premium phone you've just bought! I just looked back at a video I posted about 3 weeks ago in which I screenshot my battery health at that point...it has dropped another 3% in that time!
@@DavidLewisTech Mental numbers.. I bought the 1TB version too so it wasn't cheap hahaha. The annoying thing about Apple is that overall.. their products are fantastic which keeps me coming back. I also I set up a Samsung for my nan the other day and I won't lie... if Samsung can nail the video & offer expandable storage I think I'm now at the point where I'd jump ship 🌟
you're not the first person to comment here that they may be ready to move on - if only Apple would listen...we can pray and hope that the 16 PM delivers 🙏🏻
9:58 its currently at 1208 views, 106 likes and 87 comments so it was hours well spent as I see many people in the comments including myself having similar issues. Thanks for talking about this 👍
Loving the raw David video! When I daily drove an iPhone as my personal phone, the battery would always die quicker closer to the new phone launch or it would just die- crash and not turn on again. I have never killed an android phone like this, but every iPhone I’ve owned has ended up like this. I don’t know if it’s just me or I’m confirming conspiracy that this has also happened to me. Haha
Hi Wendy - lovely to hear from you again. I hope your week is going well. It seems this video format has hit the mark! I did everything I normally wouldn't, yet it's kind of working! Now, like you, I don't want to buy into conspiracy theories as it's a dark hole, but you have to wonder given my experiences last weekend eh? If I did my reaction video on Monday more chat-based than scripted, do you think that would work? 🤔
@@DavidLewisTech I actually think a mix of scripted and non-scripted videos is a good strategy. When the video is more like an unboxing/first impressions video or education video, scripted might be better. If you’re doing a review or reaction like this video, unscripted might be best. What really stood out to me in this video is that you’re well-spoken even unscripted. Also, the passion you had in your voice (tone, cadence, etc) and in your expressions really grabbed the attention. For someone who experienced what you did, the rawness of your expression really resonated with me. I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing more “Raw David” videos mixed in!
hi Wendy - I'm going to run with that 'Raw David'. I think what gave me the confidence to go raw stemmed from my days in live radio. But yes, I think your idea of a mix works well. I never read a script but do have bullet points. The main thing is I had something to say - and just said it right out of the gate. This video has taught me a lot and I appreciate all your input Wendy 🙏🏻
ive experienced this exact same thing with my 15 pro max. in the last month and a half alone the battery health went from 100% to 92%, nothing about my usage has changed, I dont do anything intensive on my phone and in fact im very light on it. Idk what happened
hi Sam - great to hear from you. One day I'd love to come and film in Italy...I have such affection for your culture - food, wine, and countryside.. Yeah, this video has gone down pretty well - so I think I'll be doing more of them 🤛🏻
17.6.1 has had no adverse effect on my 15 Pro-Max. I normally limit the charging to 80%. There must have been some faulty app soaking up your energy. You can check on what it was by going to Settings, Battery and scrolling down to see ‘Battery Usage by App'
Thank you so much 😀 Well, the feedback has been super-positive, so maybe I will do this more often. I was really uncertain and didn't want to drop my standards, but it seems the reality of what I was talking about won out. I think I'll be doing this again - maybe even my review of Monday's event...food for thought Trevor!
Hey David I think this is entirely due to the sw update you performed. My phone sometimes has abysmal battery the day immediately after an update bc the phone is busy indexing in the background.
yea, if the phone gets that hot and the modem shutting down (no data) I would say something internally might be wrong. I would contact apple and have it replaced if possible. Something doesn’t sound right with it.
Thank you for the honesty, the quality was more than good enough. Let's hope Apple can come up with a solution. On a separate note but kind of along the same sort of lines, I've noticed over the past 2 or 3 software updates my Samsung s22 ultra is overheating way more than it should whilst doing very basic tasks, I can't help but think it's since the introduction of the updates preparing for AI
hi Steve - AI has a lot to answer for! I know that you, like me are not a massive fan of it in general! Alex has said that the S24 Ultra is not good from a battery perspective, but you are having issues on the 22 as well! Interesting... The video has gone down well - may be I should do this a little more often Steve! 🤔
It's not unusual that after an update your phone can do some tasks related to the update after booting up and it can take a bit longer and it can get hotter than normal. Even my apple watch has done that. After it's done it's back to normal. Nothing to be worried about.
hi there - the lesson I've learned is that I won't do an update the day before heading out! I think there must be some re-indexing that goes on...I'll always do my updates when I'm spending the day in the studio. And yes, I had it happen with my watch earlier this year as well... Thanks for getting in touch 👊🏻
My IPhone 15 Pro Max overheats all the time. This is a problem. I usually recycle my iPhones to one of my kids when I buy the next phone as I will with the 16. I don’t feel comfortable doing that with this phone. I gave my GF a iPhone 11 win I upgraded my daughter to the 12. She had constant overheating problems. I wrote that off to the fact she was in the Philippines and the temperature can be very hot. But I use this phone in Spokane WA which is about as normal a place as can be expected, still overheating.
hi ya - I forgot to mention that it was a hot day (well for the UK anyway) on Sunday. It was about 25 degrees. But the fact the battery was draining in front of my eyes was no fun!
iPhones have never gotten good battery life. My user experience is that I have to plug in and always charge up about every 2 hours. I’ve recently implemented the practices put forth by the “Payette Forward” and “iReviews” channels and gone deep into the settings on my 12 Pro (86% battery health) and turned off everything recommended, always keep Dark Mode on, as well as Low Power Mode when I’m not plugged into power. Using these methods, I can get about 5 hours of screen on time on a charge without depleting my battery. It still sucks.
@@DavidLewisTech I agree and they need to fix the battery life on all of the older phones with software updates because that too should not be an issue.
On one hand, good timing since you’ll be getting the 16. On the other hand, worse timing because that’s still a little ways off. Not to mention this shouldn’t be a problem we have from Apple on their flagship phone. I have a 15 pro max as well and was hoping to use it for another year as it’s supposed to run iOS 18 and all its features, but this concerns me a bit. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
hi Josh - yeah, I think we all know that AI will be a heavy hit on the battery, so we can only hope Apple has accounted for it. I mean if CapCut gave me issues, heaven help us!
The camera puts a huge load on the phone battery. I babied my iPhone 14 Pro Max battery - low current charging, never charged too high or too low etc. and check on the battery health regularly. One day while still quite new the camera activated while the phone was in my pocket on a 1hr walk. In that short time the charge dropped 40%! The phone was hot hot hot - I even turned it off and stuck it in the fridge to cool it down. The battery health dropped from 100% to 99% that day and continued falling since. If what happened to your 15 Pro Max happened to me I would put it down to using the camera a lot and high screen brightness (using the phone in bright sunshine) - placing big demands on the phone and battery. Once things get hot it all starts to fail. The processor is massively throttled and screen dimmed. Only when cool again would things improve. It’s not a failure of the device really, though the titanium models are supposed to be poorer at transferring the heat out. It’s a big ask of any device. If it happened to me I would be careful in similar situations in future - keeping camera use low, phone in the shade and screen brightness down where possible. But, you may feel differently and need it to work in that situation without making compromises. I like the ‘raw’ chat. ‘Polished’ videos are good too but what matters and what I value are your insights and opinions - so if fewer ‘polished’ videos and more ‘raw’ help to get the message/videos out that’s all good by me
Great input Chris. I didn't realise that the camera was such a known drain on the battery life. It did turn into quite a camera-heavy day - and I guess it was also syncing with iCloud in the background as well. It was a hot day - 25 degrees but I wasn't in direct sunlight all day. thanks for all this info Chris - I found it really interseting
I use my iPhone to shoot and editor all my videos with LumaFusion. One major issue I have is with iCloud Photos backup. If I record 50GB of video, it will upload it even after I delete so I cannot shoot more video, since my phone willl be full. I had to disable photo backups.
More to come! I really enjoyed it - I just hope I didn't ramble too much Paul. It was great being able to sit down and just speak off-the-cuff about something that was on my mind. So far, I have to say, the video has gone down better than I thought it might! Put it this way, I won't be deleting it! Hope all is going well for you this week. d 👌🏻
I think I will be doing these 'ad-hoc' videos more often judging by the feedback... To answer your question, no I don't use the upgrade program as it makes sense for me to keep the previous year's phone for comparisons etc. That, and also I am a big fan of the Multicam feature in FCP on the iPad and having more iPhones helps to make more interesting videos... I did use the trade-in program with my MacBook Air though. I traded in the M2 model for the M3 and it worked great! I'd highly recommend it 🙏🏻
I’ve never had any issues with any iPhone I’ve had nearing release of a new iPhone, I’ve never bought into these conspiracy theories either, sorry to hear about your 15 Pro Max, i just think Apple should have put better thermal protection on the 15 Pro Max which hopefully will be addressed with the 16 Pro Max.
My 15 PM has been the worst iPhone I’ve had, and I’ve had every one since the 3G. Overheating regularly, awful signal, and I know I’m not alone in this, I have many friends and colleagues complaining ever the same. Apps regularly play up, TH-cam being the worst. Apple always gets a free pass from their users,I’m almost at the point of ditching iPhone, I just don’t relish the thought of switching fully to Android
If TH-cam plays up, delete the app and reload from the App Store. I have zero issues with mine but reloaded the app several times over the years on my old iPhone8
Hi Graham - yeah, the overheating and battery issues were only part of the issue. The lack of signal was painful too! Friends with older versions of iOS and older phones (Apple & Android) were fine. There was me with my year old 15 PM and having a nightmare!! Let's hope they can pull something out of the bag this year! 🙏🏻
@@DavidLewisTech They have either modified the phone during its production cycle or yours has a fault, because mine has great signal and no overheating. It is only about three months old and has been upgraded to the latest iOS and I cannot fault it in any way. Not yet anyway.
David I appreciate the full honesty and transparency when you posted this video I have had the iPhone 14 Pro for about two and half years now. And while my battery health is at 87 percent. My phone does tend to lose a third of its or if it battery life during my normal work day for me which around 11am EST USA. By the time I am done with work day I have less than 40 percent left. One of the main reasons why is because I have location all the time for family safety reasons, but the issue you experienced where the phone gets extremely hot and the battery dies really quick I have only experienced that twice while owning this iPhone 14 Pro the one thing I did to resolve this problem was I let phone cool day of course and I have Apple Certified battery pack now that I carry everywhere with me because it is just a daily essential tech item I need have when I am out of the house on a long work day.
Hi there and firstly thank you for taking time out of your day to watch the video and comment. So far the feedback has been very positive on the video. I was undecided as to whether I should publish it at all or just bin it! Now, onto the battery - I spend most of my day in the studio with the phone sitting on a charger. But Sunday was a real eye-opener for me. The battery was just draining almost as I was looking at it! The battery pack could be a good idea if I end up doing more running-gun-style videos. It seems to have saved the day for you...🙂
I’ve had the same issues on my 15 pro has been getting unbelievable hot on charge and getting hot in my pocket generally and it’s uncomfortable to hold. I had 100% battery health and within the last month has gone down to 96. Not the end of the world but all of a sudden it’s interesting same with my battery life too. I’m hoping it’s a firmware issue but my battery has been poor for a couple of months. I did manage to get about 24 hours I’m getting down to 10% 3-4 hours earlier now. Yes mines the smaller phone but I’m having the same issues 👍🏻
hi Tom - it's clear, as the dust settles that there is a battery issue and Apple needs to both listen and address it. My battery health has taken a knock too over the past few weeks...
The 16 Pro Max should have bigger battery, and the A18 Pro should be faster and more efficient (given the efficiency and speed of its cousin the M4 in the iPad Pro), and Apple is making a bigger effort at heat dissipation using graphite or graphene pads (don't remember which). I don't know what your battery capacity was or how you charge your phone, but I charge my 15 Pro Max wired when possible with a charge limit of 80% and don't really let it drain very completely so my maximum capacity is still 100%. Yes, I know we probably have vastly different workflows, but if my capacity dropped below 85% I'd probably get the battery changed out.
hi - I think they are going to use graphene this year, and possibly use the stacked battery tech too. I have Optimised Charging turned on, so not the 80% limit option - but in fairness that's because I know I'll be changing phones every year to review. If not I'd enable the 80% limit. Great to hear from you again. d Since I bought the 15 PM I have almost exclusively charged it on a wireless charger.
I’ve had my hands on hundreds of iPhone 15 models I notice people have issues when they have 5g auto on vs LTE only. I understand cell carriers boast5g is faster yadayada. It’s nonsense. On occasion I’ll enable 5g auto to see how it’s coming along but immediatelyi i experience issues like…. Call failed or apps don’t load, maps don’t load etc. Also I know battery optimization on sounds cool but the reality is that the phones that have it enabled seem to have a lower battery capacity than phones that do not use any battery optimization enabled. Counterintuitive I agree. Just sharing my personal experiences.
that was a really interesting read - thank you. I'll play around with 5G Auto to see if it makes any difference. I love comments like this. Thanks again
Forgive me, but what *running* applications did you have running? It almost certainly is that one of this applications running in the background are a battery drain.
That isn't an issue with IOS. You don't need to close the app when you aren't using it. Unless maybe he has apps that constantly run like Spotify. Even then, it shouldn't be an issue, especially for the pro max.
@@ZaWarudo_TokiWoTomare An app can sometimes crash and consume lots of power. You can check on what it was by going to Settings, Battery and scrolling down to see ‘Battery Usage by App'
hi Tim - as I said, I went out on Sunday with no intention of making this video. Had I done so I would have paid more attention to what apps were open and taken some screenshots. I did close everything down and from memory, there were about 9 or 10 apps open in the background. I know that is good practice, but I'd also say that on a year-old 15 Pro Max, we shouldn't have to be so diligent and concerned about these details, wouldn't you say? Great to hear from you 👍🏻
Hello mate, never had problems like that...battery id dying quickly these days on my 13 mini but it's an old battery and it's at 86% health. Yesterday the phone came down at 20%. I immediately connect it to magsafe and it was already at 17% (3% lost in 15 seconds...lol). As I said battery is kinda old so perfectly normal for me but on the other hand your situation is really strange...
yeah, Frankie - in the past year I've had no issue like this...very odd! I will be watching out more keenly now for how the 16PM behaves. Great to hear from you again and hope all is good with you 👊🏻
My battery health has tanked from 96% health to 92% on my 15 pro in the past two weeks. I definitely won’t be able to skip the upgrade this year which I was actually intending to do. My battery is shocking. Not a conspiracy theorist either, but it does make you wonder!
hi there Luke - yeah, it does feel as if something has gone on recently in the background, doesn't it... Thanks for watching and commenting too fella. I appreciate it 🙏🏻
lol sorry but you lost me at Shelby Cobra. Sounded like the Charlie Brown teacher after seein those pics. Big gear head and loved the pics of the cars.
oh man - I'm sure there will be some videos of the event. It was the second time I've been and it's just the best day out! The Cobra was just amazing!! 👍🏻
This is disappointing. I don't think its a conspiracy. Then again, Apple is known for throttling and they are pushing hard to get people to buy or trade-in their Iphones for the Iphone 16s and beyond because of AI. Good video and rant more often.
hi ya - if only you knew how uncertain I was about this when I hit upload! I pride myself on professional polished videos - but sometimes speaking from the heart works! Thank you so much for taking the time to both watch and comment 👊🏻
They used to do that but since Apple got caught out doing it back in 2017, which they were throttling devices for a reason with people reporting their 6s 6s Plus were dying at 50% battery but where Apple was wrong in that they didn’t communicate that to customers which lead to many lawsuits against them which lead to Apple putting optimised charging and recently the option to limit charging to 80%.
Not a stinker. But no need to say 3x it’s a raw video. Me as a consumer I’m sick of same words from different channels. Please creators before shorting a vid just ask yourself did someone already say this and did Apple already put thin into spec sheet. Do not repeat others.
well, I just hit record yesterday and said what was on my mind. I think I'll be doing it more often. Glad it's gone down ok and you didn't think it was a stinker!! Top feedback - thank you 🙏🏻
I personally like this kind of unprepared video better. It just seems more personal to me . Not some over edited video. Just you talking to the camera like a ordinary guy. Just my opinion
Hi Justin - thank you! I was unsure as to whether to publish it - I hardly made any edits and wanted it to feel fresh and almost raw! The feedback seems positive, so i think I'll be doing this a bit more often! Thank you you again D 🙏🏻
Great video. I don’t believe in Apple conspiracy theories. It’s ridiculous based on the scale of Apple’s iPhone sales. It’s insane to believe the estimated 15-20 million iPhone 15 Pro Max units sold were designed and booby trapped to die in time for new sales. This would be an International incident of epic proportions. “Bendgate” happened because of NINE UNITS! I do believe you had a catastrophic failure. One of the major problems I had with Windows was the frequency their updates caused serious issues. We know Apple Beta software can brick the device but when their REGULAR system updates are massively unstable, that could devastate the brand. We PAY a premium because we hate the janky software that frequently accompany Android and Windows devices. Security, Durability and Stability are Apple’s 3 pillars. Buyers justify the high prices and resale values because they believe Apple devices embody these qualities.
hi there Sharon - you always make such great and valid points. Was Bendgate really on the back of only 9 units? Like you, I don't go with the conspiracy theory either. There would just be too much to lose if that ever came out. I think it is more likely that some re-indexing was going on after updating to 17.6.1 and possibly some 5G issues were thrown into the mix as well. I've never installed betas on any devices, tempted as I've been as I rate reliability over testing more.
@@DavidLewisTech yes, 9! I remember the fever pitch and the silence that followed. Today, it’s hard to Google Bendgate without getting a bunch of garbage. You need keywords to dig up actual articles. I have a CNET article I’ll attach from back then separately in case including links will get the entire comment blocked. Of course the VERGE released a story in 3018 claiming they uncovered “Bendgate” was worse. The controversy ended because Apple does not allow “anonymous” or unaffiliated complaints. They must accompany a IMEI of the device having the problem. That number or SN are easy to find on the actual device or in your account under devices. All the liars saying they reported the problem and Apple was in a state of panic died as soon as Apple’s official statement at that time proved they had only 9 tickets. Apple requires ANY service request to identify a device for faster routing and to eliminate fake, time wasting or curious non users. Apple support is SUPER easy to contact with real people helping.
I can’t post the link but let’s see if it will accept a C and P of the CNET byline info: “Apple: Only 9 customers have complained about 'Bendgate' The company also says the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus underwent rigorous testing to make sure they're up to its high standards and can withstand stress. Shara Tibken Sept. 25, 2014 12:10 p.m. PT”
@@DavidLewisTech lol, ALL the major news outlets covered it, then completely dropped the story after that statement. Google search is a mess because of all the false but overwhelming “Bendgate” stories and Verge reigniting the story 4 years later. Use keywords like “Apple Bendgate statement”, “only 9 Bendgate users affected” and you’ll find Forbes, NYT, TIME, the Guardian, Cult of Mac, CNN…in real time correcting/updating the story.
Hmm..Should you not always be honest? I think you kept overplaying the honesty talk to the point I felt it was very cringe worthy and constantly repetitive! I have never seen or heard of you before as you popped up on my recommendations, but this was my 'honest' opinion. I'm sure you meant you well non the less and maybe it just came across a little intense or such. Anyhow hope you sort out your iPhone and find out what the cause was?

I've noticed a bit of jank on my Pro 15 Max but not too bad recently. It might be an app issue.
I reckon there could be some re-indexing going on after the update. I think I will wait to update in future if I know I'm heading out for the day...
9:58 its currently at 1208 views, 106 likes and 87 comments so it was hours well spent as I see many people in the comments including myself having similar issues. Thanks for talking about this 👍
hey man - yeah, it's gone down well. I will be making more 'raw' videos for sure.
Great to have you on board!
been watching your channel for awhile. This caught my sub! 👍🏼
cool - and to think I nearly deleted it!
I learnt a lesson yesterday - speak from the heart...
Thanks for the sub 👊🏻
@@DavidLewisTech yep.
more videos like this to come
Loving the raw David video!
Hi Joseph - as I said, it does make you wonder if something has gone on in the background doesn't it?
Did you go into Battery settings to see the culprit?
Final Cut Camera is not friendly on the battery! That was the worst culprit by a long way! 📱
Really liked the idea, please make more videos like these, I'm sure I'm not the only one who liked it. Greetings from Italy.
hi Sam - great to hear from you. One day I'd love to come and film in Italy...I have such affection for your culture - food, wine, and countryside..
Yeah, this video has gone down pretty well - so I think I'll be doing more of them 🤛🏻
Ambient temperature in the UK got very high on some days this summer. We maybe don’t think about that enough.???
yup - bigger picture!! 👍🏻
17.6.1 has had no adverse effect on my 15 Pro-Max. I normally limit the charging to 80%. There must have been some faulty app soaking up your energy. You can check on what it was by going to Settings, Battery and scrolling down to see ‘Battery Usage by App'
Yeah, if I was keeping the phone as my daily for more than a year I would definitely limit charging to 80%, but in my case, I know I'll be swapping...
I liked today's video, sometimes no script is awesome.
Thank you so much 😀
Well, the feedback has been super-positive, so maybe I will do this more often. I was really uncertain and didn't want to drop my standards, but it seems the reality of what I was talking about won out.
I think I'll be doing this again - maybe even my review of Monday's event...food for thought Trevor!
Hey David I think this is entirely due to the sw update you performed. My phone sometimes has abysmal battery the day immediately after an update bc the phone is busy indexing in the background.
now you mention it Evan I had that issue earlier this year with my watch the day after an update.
Goos point! Thank you! 🙏🏻
yea, if the phone gets that hot and the modem shutting down (no data) I would say something internally might be wrong. I would contact apple and have it replaced if possible. Something doesn’t sound right with it.
that's a great point you've just made about the heat shutting down the modem. Thank you!!
@@DavidLewisTech keep up the good work, I like your style 🙂
Cheers man - I have some great content planned. Another something a little different on Monday I think too
If its for a day of shooting I always recommend bringing a MagSafe charger.
I may look into a battery pack I reckon...
Do you have wired CarPlay? Why didn’t you plug in to juice the phone up a bit? Should also carry a battery pack too
iPhones have never gotten good battery life. It still sucks.
here's hoping Apple pulls out some magic this year Thomas - this really should not still be an issue in 2024!
I had to disable photo backups.
hi Joseph - that sounds like a proper pain in the neck. I also find that iCloud seems to take a long while to sync...
More of these off the cuff videos, sir. One more comment than you expected.
More to come! I really enjoyed it - I just hope I didn't ramble too much Paul.
It was great being able to sit down and just speak off-the-cuff about something that was on my mind.
So far, I have to say, the video has gone down better than I thought it might! Put it this way, I won't be deleting it!
Hope all is going well for you this week.
d 👌🏻
Great video! Love the format - question - do you use Apple Upgrade Program when purchasing the new iPhone 16 ?
I think I will be doing these 'ad-hoc' videos more often judging by the feedback...
To answer your question, no I don't use the upgrade program as it makes sense for me to keep the previous year's phone for comparisons etc.
That, and also I am a big fan of the Multicam feature in FCP on the iPad and having more iPhones helps to make more interesting videos...
I did use the trade-in program with my MacBook Air though. I traded in the M2 model for the M3 and it worked great! I'd highly recommend it 🙏🏻
I’ve never had any issues with any iPhone I’ve had nearing release of a new iPhone, I’ve never bought into these conspiracy theories either, sorry to hear about your 15 Pro Max, i just think Apple should have put better thermal protection on the 15 Pro Max which hopefully will be addressed with the 16 Pro Max.
yeah - I am not big into conspiracy theories either. I think it was just one of those days!
What is your phone stating for battery health?
262 cycles and 90% - I have just checked now for you
I had a similar experience, but it was not related to the battery. If this happens again, I will switch to an Android phone.
Apple need to hear your voice on this! They need to sort out battery life - and pronto! Thanks for commenting 👊🏻
solid idea!
@@DavidLewisTech They have either modified the phone during its production cycle or yours has a fault, because mine has great signal and no overheating. It is only about three months old and has been upgraded to the latest iOS and I cannot fault it in any way. Not yet anyway.
Overall I am still delighted with the phone and can't wait to get my hands on the 16 Pro Max in a few weeks. One bad day doesn't ruin a good year! 😁
David I appreciate the full honesty and transparency when you posted this video
I have had the iPhone 14 Pro for about two and half years now. And while my battery health is at 87 percent. My phone does tend to lose a third of its or if it battery life during my normal work day for me which around 11am EST USA. By the time I am done with work day I have less than 40 percent left. One of the main reasons why is because I have location all the time for family safety reasons,
but the issue you experienced where the phone gets extremely hot and the battery dies really quick I have only experienced that twice while owning this iPhone 14 Pro the one thing I did to resolve this problem was I let phone cool day of course and I have Apple Certified battery pack now that I carry everywhere with me because it is just a daily essential tech item I need have when I am out of the house on a long work day.
Great to hear from you again.
d
Since I bought the 15 PM I have almost exclusively charged it on a wireless charger.
@@DavidLewisTech curious about your thoughts on the 5g vs LTE after some time. Cheers✌🏼. Thanks again for the content.
yeah - I am going to definitely give it a go!
Great to hear from you 👍🏻
the app that has used the most power recently is Final Cut Camera which used 26%
yeah - that's kind of my point, it's a Pro Max, so it should be able to handle a day out shouldn't it!
Great to hear from you again and hope all is good with you 👊🏻
Time for 16 Pro :)
hell yeah! Bring it on!! 🔥
I think restart of the phone would help in this case. Probably software bug memory leaks.
He actualy said he restarted the phone twice.
yeah as per the comment below...I did restart it and shut down all background apps
d
...I thought I did mention it! Thank you for confirming I'm not going mad! 😉
I may try out the 80% charging this year...
They don’t throttle for shits and giggles dude
Sounds like you’ve just got a dodgy phone my friend. I’ve had a 15 plus since it was released, I’m currently on 17.6.1 and have zero issues.
I will be keeping an eye on it...great to hear from you sir 👍🏻
Not a stinker. But no need to say 3x it’s a raw video.
Me as a consumer I’m sick of same words from different channels. Please creators before shorting a vid just ask yourself did someone already say this and did Apple already put thin into spec sheet. Do not repeat others.
well, I just hit record yesterday and said what was on my mind. I think I'll be doing it more often.
Glad it's gone down ok and you didn't think it was a stinker!! Top feedback - thank you 🙏🏻
Funny you should say that my iwatch 7 battery has died twice in the last week didn’t make it thru the day (10 hours)
I had that earlier this year Chris - I did a watch update and the thing was dying on me after a few hours. It corrected itself, but even so...

I can’t post the link but let’s see if it will accept a C and P of the CNET byline info:
“Apple: Only 9 customers have complained about 'Bendgate'
The company also says the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus underwent rigorous testing to make sure they're up to its high standards and can withstand stress.
Shara Tibken
Sept. 25, 2014 12:10 p.m. PT”
Geez - that is brand new to me! Thanks, Sharon...
