It's weird I always assumed if it's on bluray that it's automatically remastered HD... but I guess that's not the case? Recently I learned that there is a thing called SD on Bluray... which means that take SD content but put it on blurays and quite honestly, I wish they would do that more as long as they specifiy that it's SD on bluray... The reason is... Imagine getting a complete series of a show on DVD.... You can keep the DVD quality but drastically lesson the amount of discs.. Imagine a full season on one disc... DVD quality yes... but still... as long as I KNOW it's SD when buying it... I would be totally OK with that.
The set actually was released on Dec 20, 2020. So it's fairly recent. I agree with you on the fact that there was no hype generated for this release. I appreciate the look at the box but would've enjoyed you taking a look at the discs to see the audio/visual differences. Especially since you have the DVD collection it would've been easy for you to compare. But nonetheless I would love to pick this up since I've never seen anything Stargate and want to get into it.
If you're in to SciFi and I mean not futuristic like Star Wars but modern day. If you're in to military based shows / movies. If you're in a bit of humor mixed in. Then I think you will like this series, I personally feel it is one of the best SciFi / Military based shows that does a good job with mixing the two but is not over the top wacky SciFi or Military. I bought the DVD set with the extras, and watching it again, it will give a roller coaster ride of emotions, Richard dean Anderson really made the show and gave it that little bit extra of everyday life.
You can watch the entire series on Netflix in the US if you have it to see how you like it. I didn't like the last couple of seasons but otherwise it's a pretty fun show.
i heard of it back in the day but was in university and starting a family so missed out on it. so glad i can now start watching it. its on mgm right now but i don’t trust these services. you are halfway through a series and then they take it off. physical media will always be superior

The Blu ray picture is way out of colour balance, ie it's just had the colours unrealistically balanced turned up, and upscaled to a multi region Blu ray disk. buying these or buying DVD's from the charity shops, well lead me to Oxfam! basically instead if the 20 year remastered specials with extras MGM could have released? We got a half arsed out of balance Shit job on both the disks and the art work. ie an 8 Chevron gate? WTF!!!! and Daniel Jackson star of 196 episodes is replaced by Jonas Quinn Star of 26 Episodes WTF!!!! IF YOU CAN'T GET THE BASIC FACTS RIGHT!!!! Where is the hope for the disks. Sadly many a Moron, plus Fans, Old and New are going to see Blu Ray, and open there wallet, VERY WIDE and find out at home, these discs are no better, that a set they could have bought in the Charity/thrift shop for a couple of quid. i'm also not impressed at all at both MGM and Gateworld, for giving us this pile of Shit, and for endorsing it. the only two benefits of this set, is it's multiregional about time they dropped this region rubbish, and finally you can get SG UNIVERSE Season 2 on blu ray remember SG1 season 8,9, & 10, SGA and SGU were filmed in in HD So these are not upscaled, but again if you look Blu ray copies of Atlantis and SGU Season 1 can all be found use Second hand. It could have been something Special, Remastered, episodes of Seasons 1 to 7, New material, BONUS DISK as per this new disk in this set? but instead we got a bodge job, MGM could not even be bothered to do the job themselves, so we got a real bad job, with all the care and love MGM have given to there most successful Sci-fi Series ever!!! instead of a superb limited edition, we got half a job, ie everytime was a job that could have been better, with just a little more effort. ie duff art work, wrong actor, incorrect gate, they could not ever get the three boxes all of the same size, ie the Universe box, is not even the same size as the other two. it's laughable, it could have been everything every stargate collector wanted, and yet, MGM yet again does nothing again for the faithful fans. Sadly many will buy this knowing no better, but the real fans already have this and were waiting for more, more which yet again never came, SGO ie origins all over again, millions of disapointed fans, yet again. i presume the Universe disks are over prices so i'll wait for the sales, to get the one disk out of the 80 disk here, and it's just 2 i don't already own, the Extras and SGU disk 2 on blu ray.......Damn So close, yet missed by a mile again.
@@terskatti4994 It goes way beyond the box art. They cut a lot of corners in producing this box set. They didn’t give SG-1 the love and attention that it deserves.
I discovered the set by accident as well. It was a hefty price for me ($143) but worth it. People need to remember it's not remastered, it's upconverted from SD 480p to 1080p from season 1-7. Season 8-10 are already HD so are just a straight transfer.
For anyone wanting an actual detailed review of this product (not just an unboxing), there are a few up at Amazon already that go into what seasons are upscaled SD and what is actual HD content, captions, and other tech specs.
One of the best series made along with SG: Atlantis. I love this show but I may wait on getting the BluRay versions since I digitized my DVD collection onto a lan and watch them via Plex. Not sure I want to go to the trouble of making larger files to stream around the house. To be fair, the quality of the DVD versions look fine to me. I remember getting the enhanced Star Trek Original Series collection (where they redid the special effects) and I found the picture to be so different and you could really see the poor make up which was distracting. I did like the enhanced SFX.

I got the original box set that has a stargate on the front and if I get this I’ll probably stick these disc in that case
