I have this exact bike. I have other proper bikes but I wanted to see how capable I could make this bike with some upgrades. Changed the fork to a Manitou 120mm. Brakes Magura Mt4's 4 pot up front and 2 in the back with 180 rotor in the f and 160 (stock). Put heavy duty tubes in and some maxxis trails tires on. Along with changing touch points like bars, shorter stem, seat and pedals. Its for sure more capable and now I have a bike that someone could use to join on a trails ride but the only thing I wish I could change is the head angle, it's already slackened with the larger forks but maybe a degree and a half more would be perfect and maybe the drivetrain
@@dlukac Wow! I can't wait to see one of this bike here in the Philippines and have a ride on it! I'm surely gonna save some cash so I can acquire one when it becomes available here at my end! Thank you for responding, Sir! Cheers!
I have a Giant Roam 2 disc from 2014 lineup. And honestly, there is not a lot of changes to the formula. Except maybe for 2x instead of 3x. As far as frame design goes, I actually prefer the older one: it looks more stout (while keeping the same(-ish) weight).
Just bought this bike on sale at wheel world for 480.00. I'm new to cycling so I'm glad to know that it seems that I picked up a great entry level bike. 👌🏽
I saw your review, it was excellent, very comprehensive. I'm in Canada, If I order one today I may see delivery by Christmas 2022. I ordered a Trek Roscoe ( 7) 16 months ago, still waiting, could be 8 more months. I'm 64, would like to see a bike before I hit 70................
@@cosmickid1794 I am so ready for things to get back to normal. I really lucked out that my bike shop had my bike in stock. I recently bought a guitar, and it seems the guitar industry is suffering from the same issues as the bike industry.
@@TheCommonSenseProfessor yes, some kind of normal is what we all need. If I had a definate time in the Trek, I'd feel better, for now, keep pounding out the miles on my old KHS alite. Bike is fine, it's a medium frame, I really need a small. First world troubles I guess :)
It's gonna be a good utilitarian, everyday bike! I hope to see this soon on Philippine roads. Lots'a love, cheers, & Mabuhay, from tropical Philippines!
i have one :) it came with tektro hydraulic brakes stock. very fun to ride, especially when i changed the drivetrain to 1x12. rode to revpal with a smile.
I just bought this (my first bike purchase in 20yrs) same colour and looks beautiful. Was deciding between this and the trek dual sport 1 but went giant due to price. It Absolutely flies. Mine however has a 3x7driceline.. and hydraulic brakes front and rear...is this a difference between USA and Rest of world spec(I'm in AUS)
I’m from Australia too (Melbourne) got this bike last year for our never ending lockdowns, mine is also 3x7 And you’re right our brakes are different to the video too. When I saw the way the brakes were moving in the video I was like what?! Mine doesn’t do that? Lol I just purchased the 2022 version of this bike, it’s blue and black this year, for $749 and in stock for all sizes
I bought the Roam 1 back in 2018 and still have it. 3x910 with hydraulic disc brakes , suntour lockout fork and 38c tubeless. Any ideas why they don’t offer Roam1 here in the US anymore?
While I am saving up for a RENNSTAHL frame, I am currently only interested in Hybrid frames for bikepacking, touring, adventure that are manufactured in Taiwan, not China. Giant, is reportedly a Tier 1 frame fabricator. Do you know if the Roam series have Taiwanese frames? Even TREK, once sourcing all frames to my knowledge from Tier 1 Taiwanese frame manufacturers like Giant, have gone to Cambodia for some frames. Any suggestions for great value Taiwanese hybridsl bikes or frames? Thanks.
Are you sure your looking at the correct Roam? There are different levels. The Roam 4 in this video runs mechanical brakes, the Giant Spec sheet for the Roam 4 also confirms this. If you look at the Roam 3 or 2 it will be hydraulic
I didn’t like that the Trek dual sport did not have front end suspension, and at another $200 to boot. Less features for more money. The Giant seemed like far better value.
I got this bike last year when I first started cycling… I didn’t look after it very well… I had no idea how to do maintenance and had about 9 accidents on it. Having said that, it lasted me 14,500km until the bottom bracket, rear hub, chain and cassette all needed replacing. It would’ve cost me too much to replace, so I sold it and repurchased it brand new lol I’ve also got the new 2022 model in sapphire blue ordered and waiting for delivery next week. I love this bike so much, I bought it 3 times now lol Next year I will get Giant Contend AR 3…
That seat tube is a deal-breaker for me, one of the most common theft items is a seat with the seat tube and eliminates the option of a suspension seat tube. Other than that it's a very nice bicycle and probably at a good price. Reminds me of the Specialized Sirrus.
Another solid offering from Giant! Probably my favorite of the Big 3 brands
Which are the other two ?

Hey, that's the bike I bought! I hadn't seen many videos on it. Nice to see your review!
Hey, thanks!
have this same exact bike purchased in May. In terms of "bang for your buck", this cant be beat.
Is it a good ride?
@@yengsabio5315 absolutely! Perfect for riding around the neighborhood, camp, etc. I’ve even ridden it on MTB trails without issue.

Good to see some Giant bikes. I would like to see a review of the Escape 3 basic model.

Is the suspension lockable

What do you think of this versus a Trek Dual Sport 1?
What's your favourite between this and the Dual Sport 1? Thanks for the review!
Did you end up choosing between them?
How does this compare to the Cypress DX?
looks like a comfy, practical bike.
Would this be better than the Fuji traverse ?
Can I change the tires to much more slimmer tires?

Is it fast for racing ?

Curious what height could ride this. Is this L?
This bike comes with hydraulic disc brakes and 3x7 shifters in Australia.

Nice bike but it sure seems like the price of this model has gone up quite a bit in recent years.
does it have tubeless tires?
No
Thank you very much, well done and educational. I always look at tire clearances, as in how wide of a winter tire can I fit.😁

Most bike shops do maintenance and have plans of some sorts.
How's the 2022 model going for you? Just placed an order for it in black for my first bike
Which is better for a casual path rider? This or the Giant ATX
This. ATX is a little better on dirt but on pavement will be slightly more draggy
What size tires?
Giant CrossCut, 700x42c, puncture protect

Specialized Crosstrail, maybe.
Thanks god bless
