Hello Johanne, I've watched this many times (along with "Anniversary") and I just love the interplay between RL and your dad. Quite simply, it's marvellous and more specifically, joyous ! You only have to look at your dad and Charlie during the violin duet on Anniversary to realise how much they're enjoying themselves. I saw RL & SC at Leeds University in 1975. They were the best live band I've ever seen ..... period. Please tell him that ! SMc
Johanne And a PPS - I'm really surprised there's not a comment about "Anniversary" where Charlie (Hart) and your dad have a 'private joke' (?) re : the first violin/fiddle sole in this gorgeous tune (the coda from "Italian Girls"). The look your dad gives Charlie is priceless !!!
RIP Steve Simpson. He brought so much joy - isn't this one of the greatest moments? Ronnie and Steve blasting out that harmony. It's beautiful. Raise a glass for a fallen giant x
Spent a wonderful evening in the middle of the Chester racecourse in 1970-something, listening to Slim Chance in their circus tent. Spliffs all round, my beautiful girl's blond head on my shoulder. Slow, long, summer sunset. Not a care in the world. Magic.
Good God! Ronnie Lane was soo special! Such a sweet voice, melodic player & such a gentle dispostion on stage! He suffered such indignities within the music world & died in such a sad sad way, yet he never lost his wit, grace or class. Ronnie Lane sparkled on a stage just being there, like a rare gem in a spotlight. He was one of kind - like Marriott & he had that gypsy spirit like him too! I hope he's resting "under dreaming spires". Plonk is in my heart now & always - shine Ronnie!.
Ronnie had more artistic integrity in one finger than all the more successful musicians who played with him.. And I respect the hell out him for it.. He played what he wanted when and wherever he felt.. I love the old cart tour .. Heaven gave him a standing ovation when he arrived.. Rip brother we miss ya down here..
I love Ronnie Lane for the music and the words he left us , for his suffering going away from the Faces , for his aristocratic behaving, for his sweetness. I always think how much he did for the music and how few he was appreciated
I first heard this from Status Quo.Fell in love with it immediately ... No comparison .Glad to meet this version of the versions... Can' t get any better !?! "Never can tell "...
Great to see musicians relaxed and having a blast like this, while still keeping it nice and tight. Been browsing through lots of Ronnie Lane's stuff and thoroughly enjoying it.
Ronnie and Steve! The best performance of "You never can tell" .... even though I am 25 years old, there is something in this music. Thanks to our ancestors!+++
One of the greatest melodic bass players to come out of the United Kingdom and a great lyricist listen to debris all or nothing song of a baker you’re my girl especially the version off five guys walk into a bar rip Ronnie and thank you 🙏
Absolutely phenomenal! I love everything about this. What a song! What musicianship! More than anything it’s the joy of Ronnie and Steve share - the best example of which comes during Steve’s solo at 3 minutes where Ronnie whoops and struts in a jocular guitar god sort of way. I feel very lucky that I was once able to tell Steve Simpson just how much this means to me and how during difficult times this song has never failed to lift my spirits.
I just love music. Classical, blues, rock, reggae and more. And, this is great.............Never worry about those that give thumbs down. They are not important to the groove. Boogy, beer, barbeque and babes - much better than a thumbs down.....always keep it cool man...................
Im nearly 60 so don't remember the sixties and only see the love affair on TH-cam few weeks ago Steve Ellis brilliant singer my favourite group are the small faces Steve Marriott has great voice as well you can't beat the sixties music best ever
I've listened to this song like four times and how do I know it? How do I know it? Pulp fiction the movie. When John Travolta and Uma Thurman dance and they win the trophy at the diner. They take their shoes off and they do several moves or dances and combined into one. The best part of the movie. I thought.!! Ronnie Lane music was all around us even when we didn't even know it!! Great song cuz you never can tell 🥰🥰🥰 So true💫⭐💫⭐
It is great .. and obvious .. who made the Faces .. rool & Rock ... Ronnie ... Rod & co were lucky to have this man in their band ,.,.. thanks for posting
Love this version I grew up on Chuck Berry's version ,but this one is great too! Love the tempo! I learned to dance to this with my dad in our livingroom, with Chuck Berry's album on the hi-fi!! LOLWhat fun!
It is the Old Grey Whistle Test, a BBC television programme from the 70's & 80's. Some performances are available on DVD,s avaliable in most record shops, or from the BBC website.
'The backbone of the Faces "Rod Stewart .Did I not read in Melody Maker that he gave him an oxygen chamber for his MS ? Went to one of of his last gigs the Dublin Castle Camden . It is true he did not get the recognition he well deserved !
Ronnie and slim chance truly delivered an unforgettable rendition of this classic, Steve Simpson (great musician) really got Ronnie inspired here awesome lead and base the beautiful sound of the ivory's and outstanding timing with the sax just pouring on the icing, one of my favourites on youtube.
What a great act. When I was in high school we had many of his albums we played all the time. Huge sad loss how he withered away. Gratefully many of his friends such as Jimmy Page donated much healthcare in his decline. I saw the Ronnie Lane ARMS concert in L.A. in 1983 with Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, and Jimmy Page at the Forum and it really was amazing show they put on. I still have the program I bought. Huge loss. Anyway than you for sharing this.
I just connected with this. I loved pete townsend and the tribute album had a song, evolution that I just found out was sung by ronnie. And the strange thing was I loved small faces but they didn't produce enough ....
My heart cries when I learn that Ronnie Lane is no more...! My God ..what talent! RIP Ronnie. I know that you are entertaining all in heaven with your great music. May your soul rest in eternal peace.
Bloody marvellous. Thats my dad (Steve Simpson) in the red shirt singing back ups with Ronnie
