Ronnie Lane was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and died in Colorado U.S.A in 1997. His medical care was funded by Jimmy Page, Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood. He has always been one of my favourite musicians. He was one of the first people to combine country/rock. There is great feeling and Joy in his songs. RIP Ronnie.
_His medical care was funded by Jimmy Page, Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood_ *among others.* Ian McLagan, Kenney Jones, Pete Townsend, Roger Daltrey, and the Glimmer Twins were all reported to have chipped in.
Remember drawing a rock band in school in 73 and writing Ronnie lane on the drum. The teacher praised me, the only time I had a compliment in school. The beauty of being a youngest sibling the music I listened to. God bless Ronnie r.i.p.
Whenever I hear one of the tunes Ronnie penned I'm transported back in time to a happy London life in the city, pretty girls, wonderful people and the music that kept us all going 🎶👌🌆 night and day 🎸🎉 love ya Ronnie ❤️✨✨✨✨✨
I'm sure he played at Talk of the West at St Agnes...the same weekend as New Seekers. My Uncle saw him there and was on about it forever....well....Lynn Paul really...but Ronnie weren't far behind!!😁😁
...one of my all time favourite Ronnie Lane songs, this is a great example of what a fine writer he was....the world ain't the same without ya' Ronnie....
This little tune has been on my mind all week, very INFECTIOUS! I have to hear it every day. I'd always been a Stones and Faces fan, and now I'm glad I've rediscovered this 'relative' of theirs.
East London's music maestro Ronnie on The Basil Brush show!!!...How cool is that??!!(all I want now is a jam sandwich & a bottle of cream soda)!!! 😋👌..Plonk forever...R.I.P. Ronnie Lane. SX 👍
Never thought someone would write a song that sums up how I feel about my sister but you certainly did, love the lyrics about hemlock and spice racks, bless you Ronnie Lane.
I used to sing this song when I was in a band about 15 yrs ago and found myself singing it recently, forgot who it was by and went on a frantic search for it, so happy I found it now .
RIP, Ronnie - one of the UK's most important, but sadly underrated, singer-songwriters. Squeeze that box, Bernard! PS: Biddy Wright is the bassist in this clip.
it's actually Nigerian musician Biddy Wright who was a contempary of Fela Kuti. He didn't atually play on the record however that was Chrissie Stuart, apart from Gallagher and Llye the other musicians are Billy Livesy(piano) and Bruce Rowlands(drums). There is a live version featuring this band plus "How Come" co-writer Kevin Westlake out there somewhere as well
MurrintownLad we must have had the same taste in music, long gone are these artists performing at The Empire. Had some great times and Glad I met The Small Faces and The Faces and Ronnie.
And trying to play an instrument also lol, gone are the days when more people liked to play music not just try to sing to it and take the credit for saying thank you for listening to "my" music the cheeky sods 😏
Ronnie didnt have the ego to chase stardom. He just wanted to make music and get a living from doing so. Forget Wembley Stadium and all those other overblown gigs - he was happy playing in a tent to a crowd of 200 (and would have done so, in numerous places, if pettifogging local authorities hadnt kept interfering). And Slim Chance shared with McGuinness Flint and Lindisfarne a happy-go-lucky anything-goes attitude to their music that makes all three among my favourite acts of all time.
how come I can't stop listening to Ronnie Lane (or Steve Marriott either?) Oh wait... maybe because to me they are absolutely the finest rock musicians ever, hands down, case closed. Only Davies Bros, the Who & Rory Gallagher could ever compete! In my rock world noone had the diversity in style & charm. I miss 'em more & more as the world just grows more & more mad. we could use their cheekiness nowadays. aww Plonk, Marriott & Rory G taken way too soon - how come? sigh.. i miss real rock music.
Oh man - I miss Ronnie Lane - I miss real rock musicans 1 April Happy Birthday Plonk I hope you are at rest under dreaming spires - what a sweet winsome voice this guy had and what a true trobadour - a class act I miss his wit and talent more as music like the rest of the world gets colder and stupider all the time - sigh ... shine on...
My ex wifes uncle Benny playing mandolin on this.....sadly I never got to talk to him about Ronnie because I never discovered he'd played with him until after we last met
Gallagher and Lyle were in a great band ( McGuiness Flint ), they are here with Ronnie. He sits very easy in this company, when you look at the great music that came out of these, and other like minded souls, it really was a healthy period in British popular music.
Ronnie Lane so didn't need to work with Rod! He was a GREAT musician on his own! Simple hooks, lovely melodies & a sweet, wistful voice, so unique with such an understated stage presence. See Ronnie Lane was a REAL musician. I love his stuff. What a sad story the end of his life was. I miss Ronnie Lane's music & it goes without say I miss Marriott.!!! btw what happened to Rod he was pretty good when he started wonder what changed him & Ron Wood too?

Well said mate! 😊👍
"A great feeling of joy in his songs". Well said!
Yeah and he was ripped off by that crook Arden and in America later in his life
I thought was Texas ❤he passed not far from Houston and near Austin

Lovely down to earth man was Ronnie , so sad there's not a lot of people about like him in the music business 😔 R.I.P.
Or even in life
A legend total respect.
Total legend. Great musician and not a pretentious person like a lot of so called “stars” are now
Sadly missed. Ronnie you were the best

Fabulous...!! A sad loss....and suddenly almost 50 years are gone..!!!.....How come...???!!??
A great song from my childhood. Love it when you see the band members smiling so much while performing, the bass player is enjoying himself.

...one of my all time favourite Ronnie Lane songs, this is a great example of what a fine writer he was....the world ain't the same without ya' Ronnie....
Not many performers, before or since, have had the level of integrity that Mr. Lane had. One of the last genuine souls in the biz.
This is a song that I bought on release and still find myself singing even now.
There’s some talent on that stage…most noticeable Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle who gave this song their own instantly recognisable sound.
Agree
Anytime you need a smile or a pick me up, just throw on some music by Ronnie Lane. The little rascal will make you feel good every time.
How well put. His wife and family, I’m sure, would be touched by your words.
It’s terrible he suffered so.

Ronnie on the Basil Brush show! :-) Two British institutions! Pure class. Try not smiling when you watch it :-)
Ronnie was a genius! This song is clever stuff and Basil would have loved it!
This is one of the few songs I can play and no matter how I'm feeling it makes me realize just how short life is.. This song reminds me my youth,
What an absolutely joyful piece of music this is! They actually look as they are enjoying themselves. Wonderful!
Never thought someone would write a song that sums up how I feel about my sister but you certainly did, love the lyrics about hemlock and spice racks, bless you Ronnie Lane.
A blast from my youth, brought back so many memories watching this. Fan of the song, I even remember the lyrics to this day. Great stuff
The world is a sadder place without Ronnie Lane or Basil Brush

Ronnie Lane.....what a talent.
the backbone of the faces, great bass player, great lyricist, sad day when he left the faces and sadder day when he died.
Aside from her sexy, sultry, smooth vocals her lyrics are telling a story! I love this beautiful young lady.❤
Are you lost?

Kevin Rowland of Dexy’s Midnight Runners was taking notes
From the days when the musicians could laugh and play at the same time. Now they're too busy trying to be sexy to have fun.

The ubiquitous Ronnie (Plonk) Lane…a truly wonderful musician blighted by the pernicious & aggressive MS. The founding member of The Small Faces!
