Finding the right work/life balance is definitely something good to figure out early on in your career especially in this industry where there is an ever growing list of things to learn. Also don’t feel bad about not knowing things, being able to recognize that is already commendable. Once you gain more experience, you’ll be more confident in your own abilities!! Love your videos! Wishing you the best!
I just randomly stumbled upon your video and i must admit you are so full of joy and positivity that it made me really happy! your vlog felt like a warm hug and gave me motivation .....thank you 🥰🥰💝
Hey girlie, as someone who moved to nyc alone 2 years ago I highly recommend finding a hobby like social dancing (salsa, swing) or going to girls events like "Girl's who meet nyc." They're great because you'll often find many other transplants eager to make friends!
thank u for the tip!!! i will do that next time🫡 and thank u!!! the transitions at the end were heavily inspired by preethi’s (chief_preeth) transitions! def go check out her tiktok :)
It's always relaxing to see these vlogs! I'm graduating this upcoming May and my life is probably going to look like this afterward, but I'm excited about the future and what is to come
Wow Steph those transitions 🤩. You are very hardworking and enthusiastic person driven to learn in tech industry. I am inspired by you. Hello from India 🇮🇳 ❤. Keep posting 😇🎉. You always keep smiling that’s make me smile 😊
I'm not a morning person either, so I've simplified my morning routine so that after I get ready I still have time to sit down with a coffee (or energy drink if you prefer) and just eat breakfast while watching TH-cam. I make sure I get that down time to wake up and mentally set a good tone for the day by doing something I enjoy, and I don't have to feel rushed because I already got ready! Then I go to the gym over lunch (for me I go around 10:00am or 10:15 at the latest, because it's empty at that time and my energy is finally in swing). Then I take two breaks throughout the day since I have a lot of hours left, and I make sure I walk around during at least one of them. I leave work right at 5, MAYBE 5:15 at the latest in order to dodge the first wave of rush hour. Unless you're working on something urgent or that will keep you awake at night, leave it. It's a tomorrow you problem. You don't want your work time bleeding into your free time because then you feel like your brain is on call 24/7, even when you're trying to relax or have fun. It can make it feel like you have no work life balance because mentally you're always at work. I hope this helps someone!
15:56 It's so relatable, I'm also strugling with impostor syndrome. I'm on a second year of my bechelor's degree , my major is CS. I got my first job in IT, but I feel so stupid and that I don't deserve that job. Thanks, that u said that out loud, now I don't feel alone
you’re not alone, i promise! i know we’ll be just fine as long as we keep an open mind and continue to learn and grow :)) p.s. it’s awesome that you got the job! that’s huge!💖
Hi Steph, Hazel here, from South Africa. I've been following your content for some time now and I must say I love it! Congratulations on your new job 💃 I'm an IT graduate And It has been nearly a year without a job, but your journey truly inspires me to keep pushing forward. It's reassuring to realize I'm not alone in facing challenges with website building (quite embarrassing, isn't it? 🙊😆) Anyways, I hope you get well soon with your ankle ❤:)
hi hazel!! thanks for your lovely message! congrats on graduating with an IT degree- that’s awesome! the job search process is such a discouraging one, but i know you can do it! i believe in you! esp as women in tech, we have to go the extra mile which can be really tough. but i promise you’re not alone in it. keep on learning & working hard and amazing things are bound to come! (i need to remind myself of this constantly😭) best of luck with everything!!!💖
Such a lovely piece of content! I’m sure you’ll master the skill of building apps/websites soon! Also, do you mind filming your desk setup video please?
My build was failed and failed and failed back to back some days , my project is almost complete to 😢deliver client and I was pretty demotivated , felt sad and I watch you some vlogs and I am rise up and luckely found bug that failed my build process
stoppp this made me smile😁 thank you!!! appreciate the kindness and encouragement! i’ve been feeling kinda crappy about my vids and feeling confused about what to even make recently, this gave me a little push💛
i like it a lot! my job specifically was meant for new grads who wanna try different roles/teams across the org, so they really didn’t expect us to know too much! i def still don’t feel like i don’t know very much, but i’m learning a TON at work! i think as long as you have basic programming experience and a willingness to learn, you’ll be just fine! they don’t really expect junior devs to know too much coming in! you got this!!! :)
hi!! wow that’s awesome - i will gladly take any advice you have to offer! specifically rn i’m wondering how you would approach learning if you were to start over? thanks for being willing to share! :)
@@stephranaway When I was starting out I definitely spent way too long doing online courses and tutorials like FreeCodeCamp. I've known a lot of people, including myself, who had no problem making something in the tutorials where they walk you through it step by step, but then struggle without it. So I'd recommend dropping them as soon as you have picked up the basics and just try to build something yourself, Googling things you don't know along the way. Another thing is that I wish I didn't spend ages thinking about the design when I was learning front end development. UI design is a completely different skill from FE development and would be best to be learned separately. When you're learning HTML/CSS/React/etc, I think it would be better to find a design online and copy that or something, so you can focus on how to implement it without thinking about the design at first.
idk if i’m qualified to give advice on this since i’m pretty new to the field!😅 but i would say not asking questions. this applies to any field, but definitely ask as many questions as you can bc that’s how we learn :)
One question i would like to ask is, how you are able to manage finances.. Like AS I can see clearly from the video that you spent a lot, and that too in NYC... Can you give an estimation so that its a learning lesson for us undergraduates too. .. Thanks. Bhavishya
the transitions are so smooth omggg loving your channel 👏🏽👏🏽
