- This is a recording of the International Law and Politics Working Group event that took place on Tuesday 28 May 2024.
In a landmark moment in international criminal law, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has applied for arrest warrants for senior leaders of Hamas and Israel. This development has been - and doubtless will continue to be - lauded in some circles and heavily criticised in others. Equally, the unfolding proceedings at the ICC (as well as the ICJ) are likely to be the subject of extensive technical legal commentary, as well as impassioned political debate.
Stepping back slightly, the roundtable aims to take stock of the complex interactions between various aspects of international law and politics reflected in and likely to stem from these developments. Drawing together expert participants from across the disciplines of international law and international politics, the roundtable will provide an opportunity to reflect on the arrest warrant applications in broader international legal and political context, as well as the potential implications for the various parties and institutions involved.

OH my God, we have it . There is no doubt. This is not a game, this is a reality@
We're profoundly delighted by the extreme knowledge, expertise, experiences and informed perspectives by the participants/ panelists.we salute 👏and appreciate the timely topical discussion 💪🙏
The focus should be on Netanyahu and Israel.
We have photos, videos of the starving children !
"We've seen Starvation and have never called it a crime...I'm stunned 😲
Perhaps because it was done without the public viewing it. The public thought it was a crime. Civilians are arrested for anything even close to withholding food, ect, from children.
The gap between the civilian population and your lawfare and parsing of words are universes apart.
The bottom line is you've lost your way when you think 8 months is responding quickly while children, mothers, the elderly, sick, frail. and traumatized people continue to be bombed with U.S. complicity when not one of you parsing words could endure one day of what the Palestinian people have to dwell in. Maria is right about remembering your humanity and including the word Decency.
The people are repulsed at your own ambiguity and trying to balance what you do by making Hamas equal with Israel 🇮🇱 in crimes. The fact is there would be no Hamas without an occupation. Stop protecting U.S. and Isreal as the entire world has had enough of their Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes, and that's what you see by the rallies.
Good morning I have a question. It's about the Palestinian children 10000 in prison. What's gonna happen to those children.
With so many innocent children , women or old folks & unarmed people killed by Israel , the arrest warrants should be issued before ant discussions of details of killings ! And U.N. forces invited to go and arrest the responsibles on Israel side , but the occupied and attacked , aggressed and victimized people , Palestinians , have legal right of defense , whereas occupires do not , and have this right if only attacked inside their territory recognized International borders !
Thanks 👍
You must research the origin of Israel!
Netanyahu has been invited to the USA by Congress! He has accepted the invitation and will be this week or next week.
You must talk to the scholars who have studied the Israel Palestine crimes.
The ICJ and ICC processes are significant and important......but the notion of justice 'Being seen to be done in both a Timely and Transparent manner', ie basic principles of a modern civic and or democratic judicial system, we are left with 0 answers. This manufactured ineffectiveness or redundancy points to the stark reality of an international system whose promises have never really challenged the hegemony and neo colonial agendas that are still dominant in the international sphere. At least this case, rather sadly and ironically, brings those forces kicking and screaming to the surface.
This is not a laughing/smiling subject.
Too boring I'm off bye
Hogwash.
