Well the smallie bite on this river is slow but the grass carp are chomping. River grass carp seem to be more aggressive than pond grass carp. I get them occasionally on worms or minnows in creeks/rivers but they would never bite that in a pond. I think it could be because the running water keeps the algae from growing thick mats like on ponds and so they have to improvise and stretch their diet to survive. One of the better fighting freshwater fish I would say. To get one on a whopper plopper is pretty crazy but to get two is unreal. Nice video!
I've heard other people say that about river carp. Thanks for watching, man!
Nothing better then watching you on the Mac on a cold winter night great show Matt 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks Dan! I've got another trip planned here in Feb/March! Hopefully I catch enough to turn it into a video
Cool video! You’re in my neck of the woods there. I’ve spent a lot of time on that stretch.
Its a nice neck of woods!
"Almost" is the story of my pike fishing career. The jump from the bridge looked fun. WP catch carp? Wild.
Thanks for watching, man!
Awesome video. Grass carp are released on purpose in the lakes and ponds up here in Northen Illinois, they are sterile. I'm wondering if the river flooded into some nearby ponds and lakes and they ended up in the river, or are the non-sterile grass carp. Also the snake was a Northern Water Snake. Keep up the great content.
Thanks, man!
This was a fun float!
I catch grass carp, Sauger fishing using jig & twister tail on IL River.
Nice! I went sauger fishing on the IL river once and only caught 1 all day. Hope to go back at some point
Wow....grass carp on top water. You're right....whooda thunk?
Not me! Thanks for watching!
@@EngineeringHooksetsMind sharing when you filmed this? Even X week of Y month would be fine. Thanks.
@robs9349 June 3. The grass carp were spawning during this float. I'm pretty sure that's why they were hitting topwater.
Sweet river. Does it have any mackinaw in it? Grass carp are fun to catch. I never heard of one getting caught on the whopper plopper though. Nice ones. 👍
Yeah I hadn't either! Thanks for watching, man!
Those were aggressive strikes! Great video! Wouldve love to see the hooksets on camera (especially the second one!)
Thank you! The second one my chest cam was on but it was just out of frame unfortunately
@@EngineeringHooksets That's okay 👍
Glad that size works well for you, for some reason that size has just never worked as well as the 180.
I mean if you wanna call that success 😅. I was just watching one of your Medussa videos today. Going on a 2 day musky float this weekend! Collins River, TN
@@EngineeringHooksets good luck dude, I hope you get them! With the dussa leave a little slack before you rip, if you “pop” it just right it will dart back and forth, reaction strikes are inevitable!
@@MattVavrochFishing Thanks for the tip, man! I'll be alternating between a micro medussa, a bull dawg, and a 1 piece glide bait. Fingers crossed 🤞
That is crazy man! I bet that was a blast with the small rod!
Definitely was! Thanks man!
Those carp bolting past your feet with treble hooks made me nervous😂
Can you try fishing lake evergreen or Clinton the walleye are biting if you fish deep
I do plan on trying Evergreen this fall. If it goes well you'll see it! Thanks for watching!
I finally got my explorer fixed so I’m hoping to get back out to evergreen a couple more times before it gets too cold.
Targeting saugeye?
Ya. Haven’t caught many there just a handful. Just missed 2 months of fishing due to my car being in the shop. I’m too much of a wimp to ice fish. Maybe if I had one of those heated tents lol
I accidentally skipped to 2:46 that was hilarious 😂
😂
Enjoyed this video and yr content in general.
One thing I've noticed: you set the hook HARD! You gotta be careful not to get stuck with a hook (or with a callsign like "Jawbreaker" or "Lip Ripper".)
Thanks for the tip!
Canal whales😂
Haha I don't think that was it but it works!
@@EngineeringHooksets they have monsters down in Florida
@@Sebastian-li9ol I believe it
Please don’t release carp. Thank you.
I will continue to release grass carp. I will never release silver or bighead carp.
