Um filhote fraco implica mais desperdício de energia da mãe que precisa lidar com outros filhotes que estão em um estágio mais avançado ou digamos "forte", infelizmente para evitar que um filhote fraco suscite em um atraso e um empecilho que pode afetar ela e também de seus filhotes, a mãe toma essa decisão.

In nature animals have to make sure that only the strongest and best offspring survive, sick/weak/defective is too demanding to care for. Animals dont have the luxury of supermarkets to get food sometimes they have to go many days without food so culling the weak is necessary for survival
People say it is because the bird is weak, sick, immature, etc. but the fact is WE HAVE NO IDEA WHY ANIMALS DO WHAT THEY DO ... As far as we believe, they are not sentient and cannot think logically (by our definition) or consequentially, so it seems often just reactionary, just a split-second random decision ... But the fact is there is definitely a reason (everything happens for a reason; however screwed-up the reason), even if we will never truly know and can only guess ... I suppose that is why they are so fascinating/frustrating/confusing to observe
To survive as a chick of this kind of birds, they have to grow faster or at the same rate as their siblings, as the killing tends to target the smaller sized, less active chicks
Why doesnt she immediately throw it out of nest though but instead goes through all this? Is she trying to teach the other chicks so the ones that survive also do it when they breed?
my best guess is she probably wants to make sure it doesnt have a chance to survive, because if it did then the weakest would grow up to breed and make possibly weaker babies
The mother killed it because it was eating on its siblings wing for no reason. The other chick was in distress because of that. So she took him out. Also she notice he couldn’t get to the food like the others. When he finally did he was falling down on the others for no reason she had seen it as she bit his head. But she let him live. It was only when he started attacking his sibling eating on his wing is when she killed him.
