Awww man when he wiggled his fingers in this vid, hurt my heart bro. You stay blessed my friend and keep on woodworking. Just check your machines before and after a cut lol can't hurt.
Yea but with no guard his accident could have happened sooner. Guards are there for a reason. They prevent accidents and have feathers that prevent kickback accidents.
This gave me chills when he said look still have my fingers... Huge reality check, I take even more caution when using my tools on a job site and home after following his story. Love your channel fellas and very glad your still doing what you love
You made a great choice. In my 43 years of professional cabinetmaking and fine woodworking, every shop I worked in had a 10" Delta Unisaw as it's main workhorse. When I eventually opened my own shop in 2001, I bought the Platinum Edition with the Biesemeyer fence and never had an issue. Since I often had to crosscut large panels I added an extension table that allowed me 54 inches. In my humble opinion, the Unisaw is the king of professional shop table saws. Have fun!
CHILLING......I gasped when I saw Jaime had his fingers in this video...if it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone. He has not let it slow him down and for that much respect brother
Great stuff! You and your brother each bring much to the table and al y’all’s explanations are spot on. I’ve been in the business since 1971, retired now with 5 Friday’s and a weekend. Your channel is just what the industry needs, a hook to get more young folks interested in the building trades. Keep up the work and all your digits.
I inherited that exact saw from my father. He bought it new years ago and most of the parts were still in boxes. I kept it stored for years myself until a couple weeks ago. I finally decided to put it together and install a 240v outlet. What an awesome saw. My craftsman contractor saw is now for sale.
Thank you for taking the time to talk about the new Unisaw. Many of us old guys grew up using the original in the cabinet shop, but that;s not the machine today. You have the only review I could find and thankfully you are a pro and you know what to look for. I have been woodworking for over forty years with a paralyzed arm. Car accident. Irread about your injury and then watched a few videos with you in them. You handled this the way a man should, with grace, courage, and guts. God bless you.
Jaime I had that same craftsman saw in 1975 or six and it lasted quite a while till I bought my next tablesaw, can’t remember what it was. Boy the irony in this video is gripping and I hope you’re doing better today than you were yesterday and I hope the hand situation all works out for you. Keep us updated and thanx for all of your videos. ... pf
I've been wood working for close to 40 years...My first saw starting out was a Craftsman 10" Contractors saw having a 1-1/2 hp motor such as yourself. I used it for many years but like yourself I found the fence to be lacking so I upgraded to a Biesemeyer fence system which took it to a different level. For many years I had always wanted a Uni-Saw but I could not justify the cost...so one day a friend of mine and I took a ride to Grizzly for the annual tent sale and I purchased a 3 hp 10" cabinet saw from them which was great and provided many years of great service. About 3 years ago after moving to our new house I was able to procure a new Delta Unisaw 36-L552 5hp saw which is incredible...I love it as well!
Thanks for helping us geek out on that righteous table saw. I'd love to have that in my shop. Looking forward to the next tool video. The longer format works really well for tool talk. Thanks.
I used 5 minutes to stop the video at the right frame at 4:07 to see Jamies build. xD Love the work you guys put in, it really shows on the quality of the videos. And even more in the new ones. Great work all of you.
Never stop learning is what I like about woodworking. I wish my dad wouldve got me into it earlier in life, but whatever. Start with 10 end with 10 is a motto I follow
I remember the first table saw I used was a cast iron ATLAS of my dads back in the early 1970’s I was a pre teenager then and using a table saw but only when dad was there to watch and help me .. Man that saw was a beast
I'm really liking the woodworking tool videos, from the history and backstory, to the evolution and upgrades/modifications! Really enjoy all the great content presented; interesting, informative, entertaining and to the point. Glad I found your channel - it's much appreciated!
Other features I like about the newer Delta, mine is the 52” rip and has a drawer under the extension table, very handy but the best is you just pull a lever in front and the riving knife comes right out or adjusts height for thru or non thru cuts plus the blade guard and anti kickback pawls go on and come off extremely easily. I actually found a unifence on eBay and replaced the Biesemyer fence. Still have the old one but for now I like the unifence.
First thing I noticed after going to a 3hp. cabinet saw after using my old 1 1/2 hp. craftsman, was that my blades lasted 3 times longer. I read in a book that blades wear more from heat abrasion than actually cutting the wood. If you have enough power you can cut through enough wood that it cools the blade. If you don't you burn the blades they last so much longer
Great video and good for you on this very nice saw! You are right about the front controls, the Biesemeyer fence and the riving knife and OFF switch, BUT that's push stick needs to go! Here's why. When ripping a board against the fence you need to: 1. press down, 2. press forward and 3. press diagonally towards the fence. If the board comes off the fence at the rear of the blade, it will rise up and over and it will kick back. Thankfully you do have a riving knife a great safety feature which will prevent those types of kickbacks. However, that skinny, short ended push stick will still not be able to hold the board down on the table. You need a proper "push shoe" instead. Look them up, there's a zillion types, but any one will be better than a push stick. Trust me on this, 55 years using a table saw has taught me a few things! The other thing I like is your extended fence on the miter gauge. It needs to be longer so you can clamp a stop block for crosscutting different lengths easier. The kerf in the fence is your "indicator mark" for the cross cuts, no need to measure to the blade. Line up the mark to the left side of the kerf and that's where your cut will be. Best wishes to you!
Jamie…. Thanks for the content. May I suggest cleaning your blades with “Spray 9”. It’s a very good household cleaner. I use it all the time in my shop. Spray it on, let set for 5-10 minutes then a nice stiff nylon brush. I constantly clean my blades to eliminate buildup on them.
Thirty years ago there was an old carpenter here in Wyoming who bought the first Delta cabinet saw he'd ever seen. This was during WW-II, probably 1942 or maybe '43. The saw's motor was 3/4 Hp, the largest available due to war rationing. Harold Hobson was the carpenter's name. He was extremely accomplished at had sharpening and fettling all his tools. He said he never felt the need for a larger motor and said he'd never owned a carbide tipped blade.
Glad to see your saw is a Delta. I’m just getting serious about woodworking and I’m buying a DELTA Model # 36-725. Also my wife bought me that magnetic angle gauge.
(Added) Fence system that has all there ten fingers and thumbs. It just goes to show that the right training on a non SawStop type table saw and excellent safety practices you can keep all your fingers. Just another Delta Unisaw 52 inch user. Quality woodworking video.
If you put paste wax down on the top and everywhere the fence touches it should get rid of any the squeaks and snags, also helps with getting smoother, cleaner cuts
That would be one of my dream tools. Really a beautiful saw I could admire that thing for hours in person. My girl thinks I’m crazy the way I view tools lol. She just don’t get it.
Hey to owner of Unisaw When you purchase from Amazon did it come all in one shipment including the rails and fence system all package in a crate that fits a pallet 40x48" ?
Ha ha ha I have a set of dishes the same design as Jaime’s coffee cup sitting on the saw table, how cool is that, I bought mine from Walmart, fan from Canada
Can we get a video more specific about your business? As someone who wants to start their own building business I'd love to hear more about how you started.
Great vid. I never understand why you Americans always talk about riving knifes on a table saw like it’s a bit of a novelty or inconvenience. It’s only plunge cuts it no good for other than that there’s not many reasons not to have the riving knife installed. Keep up thereafter content mate
Gee, I thought every 18 yr old spends their hard earned money on stocking up with Festool, Felder (Format 4) and Mafell (and now and again, Hilti) tools and machines. By the way, I have the exact same Delta Unisaw you have. Love it. Unless I'm cutting dados or grooves, or using my sliding table sled (with its own shop-made guard and dust collection port), the original Delta guard is nearly ALWAYS in place (unless the particular cut I'm making absolutely won't allow it). I am very fond of my fingers and I don't want to see one lying in the sawdust. Unlike Mr. C. Numbnut several years ago who practically cut his hand off attempting to free-hand rip some hardwood flooring without bothering to use the guard or even the rip fence on a little Ryobi portable saw, I took the safe operations training very seriously. When he sued Big Orange (seller of the saw) and Ryobi, unfortunately, the even more idiotic jury saw fit to sock Ryobi with $1,500,000 verdict awarding Mr. Numbut for his incompetence, stupidity, and/or laziness. Prior to his injury, Mr. Numbnut had claimed to be a knowledgeable and skilled finish carpenter and installer of hardwood flooring. The jury was swayed by expert witness Mr. S. Gass-bag, inventor and manufacturer of saw-stopping tech, who claimed that any saw which didn't have his super-duper hotdog stopping gizmo was inherently defective.
ive been waiting to see someone review this saw where has Delta gone, they used to be the king of the hill they really need help in the marketing department......
Agree on the Marketing...............unfortunately they have discontinued making all the great stuff ( industrial duty tools) they used to make. Now the only good tool they make is the Unisaw (everything else is homeowner quality, I should say junk) I have many of their old tools that today cannot be replaced
68 years old never been cut by a saw , still have all ten, when I started the old guy training me took me to the table saw and said "boy this is the dumbest piece of equipment in the world, it can't tell the difference in a 2x4 and your hand, (this was before SawStop ) be careful, we you go home I want you take everything you brought with you (fingers).
I wish I had a brother to help me lol but somehow I make it work on my own for a bit. Seems like young male adults don’t have work ethic instilled in them anymore. 100% believe your dad when he said people don’t last too long in this line of work. Anyways that’s my rant....great video !
Thank you for leaving this video up. It would have been very tempting to remove it. It serves as a reminder that these tools are dangerous no matter your experience or training. Complacency can kill.

It's nice to have a work you love. Be kind to one another. Stay safe. Love to all

I just bought an old Grizzly table saw, built in 1996. 3hp 240V, I LOVE it. Day and night difference compared to my old job site saw.

and this multi angle stop switch, you can hit it with your hand, your leg, your bleeding stump . . .
Exactly
Or maybe what was attached to your bleeding stump might fly off and hit the stop button?
Man. Watching this video now after the jointer accident. Ugh 😔.
