Removing a Plastic Nock from a Carbon Arrow

- The standard process for removing the nock from an aluminum arrow requires heat. This is not possible with a carbon arrow as the heat will cause it to melt. This video gives an alternate removal method for carbon crossbow arrows that requires absolutely no heat. It is a simple and quick process that allows the user to change nocks at home, allowing the user to utilize the NuFletch Ignitor lighted nocks

Good method but you might want to show a different way to hold bolts before drilling , I can see people slipping and drilling a hole in their hand very quickly! Safety first!
Perfect, I wasn't sure if they were glued or what. They make sure the nocks don't fall out for sure.
I think maybe heating up some water and letting the nock sit for a bit and pulling it w pliers would be safer than drilling it but to each their own

I just bit down on the knock with my teeth and pulled it out.
I simply put the nock into a vice without touching the carbon, and rotate it slightly as i pull it out. Works great, takes a few seconds.
All you have to do is get a long brass brazing rod. Remove the field point or broad head and insert the rod into the bolt through the hole. A few taps on the back of the bolt with the rod will knock it out easily. Most bolts do not have the nock glued in.
But what if you are using full length 80cm arrow? The brazing rods are only 50cm at most.

@@donches7637 nevermind, I just found 1 meters long 3mm diameter rod at my local online retailer.
@@kaikart123 get a 1/8" steel rod for $2.00 they come in 4ft lengths and cut in half.

You really need to be using a vice if you’re going to drill into something facing your hand. That’s a good way to end your hunting season. Use some safety precautions. They might just save you from a bad accident.

Mine came out a bit easier. Just had to grip with pliers, then twist & pull straight out. There was no glue, just friction.

I'm so glad you didn't drill a hole in your hand. I would have felt better if you were wearing thick leather gloves.

I came here because I searched on nock replacement. I didn't have to worry about removal. The nock came out on its own upon impact with the target bag. Do you have tips on installing replacements? What kind to avoid? Glue? No glue? I'm a novice. Thanks.
Good questions! First thing I would say is that I would replace them with lighted nocks (I prefer NuFletch Archery's because of the quality and price), but you don't have to use lighted. The main thing is making sure that they fit tightly into the insert at the end of the arrow. If they don't, the insert may be damaged or the nock too small. You shouldn't have to use glue on the nock itself, but if you have to replace the inserts, you would use glue on those. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have more questions
@@craigkaimer228 Great thank you for the quick reply. Upon close examination of the bolt (looking for an "insert") I just discovered the bolt itself is cracked. The carbon fibers are split.

crossbows use arrows? I thought they were called bolts...
Today's "bolts" are almost identical to arrows. Bolts from hundreds of years ago are significantly different.
True crossbow bolts are the projectiles from about 7"to10" long.
Today's crossbows shoot arrows.

You do realize that it's for changing the knocks to put in...say...a lighted knock? Buying a new pack doesn't accomplish that, but good effort
@@craigkaimer228 they come with lighted knocks nowadays for a few dollars more if thats what you like i myself have just never had or used them not really one of my concerns
If by a few dollars you mean $20 a bolt then go for it man. Some people would rather save the money and buy knocks for $3 a pop. If you don't like the information, you don't have to use it, but I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
I am not hating or trying to sound shity but i have never paid 20$ for one bolt get a six pack of carbon express or some blood sports they work fine 29-50$ for a six pack
