  • 15 years after it was approved, the waterway component of the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport project is set to become operational this month, with the first commercial cargo movement starting from Kolkata to Sittwe port in Myanmar. The project is aimed at boosting trade and commerce between India and Myanmar and ease access to other South Asian countries.

    A great boost to North East and Indian economy. Thanks to Modi government for bringing all these long held, conceived projects to closure after 70 years of independence.

    Nehruji struck a deal in secret with Myanmar on February 30th 1950. He is the reason today that waterway will be a reality today. Nehruji was a visionary. He knew poor peasants in India would need that waterway to bath, to cook and to travel. Rahulji has tasted this water during his Bharat jodo yatra and has confirmed this waterway is suitable for everything except for drinking. This waterway should be named after Nehruji. And the tip of the waterway should be named after Rahulji with a giant cut out of him smiling at the visitors for positive energy.

    Why can't India buy/ lease a stretch of land, connecting Kolkata to Agartala cutting across Bangladesh. This seems to be more feasible to me than so much loading, unloading of goods at different ports.

    • @mehak8827
      @mehak8827 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not just about transport of goods from Central India to eastern part of India through Myanmar. It is also about counterbalancing China’s increased presence in East . It would provide to be a fruitful route to Indian Army to directly connect to Eastern States of India in case of war with China . We can’t be dependent on just Siliguri ! But your point is also good . I hope they thought about it too !

      myanmar has ongoing geopolitical issues currently. building an expressway is not enough as a lot of other things need to fall in place to ensure a safe and beneficial trade . its dificult to trade through areas where armed conflicts can occur at anytime leading to potential losses . infact an international highway already exists known as AH 1 .rail project would be the best bet currently under the TARN once the manipur line till moreh gets completed. china can build such projects all across the globe because they have several billion dollars in their reserves.
