If your not using a drill press do not use the drill bit this guy's uses. I ended up shattering the plastic Housing when drilling with this type of bit. Use a step bit instead.
Nice work and a good explanation on how to proceed. The only thing I would like to have seen is a before and after light pattern display and maybe a measurement of the light output at 25' - 50' - 100'. I'd also recommend using a hole saw instead of a spade bit. The spade bit if pushed to drill to fast can catch and crack the plastic. Again, Nice Job !
I’ve done an led retro fit. Although led is brighter and takes up less energy than halogen, the housing is not made to focus led light so it turned into a flood type light as opposed to spotlight with halogen. I would think it’s the same for hid. I switched back to super white halogen.
I retro fitted my 2003 Chrysler T&C AWD with LEDs. I had same problem as you describe. The Chrysler takes a 9007 halogen retrofitting to an LED produces the flood light effect as you describe. This caused me to do some research by comparing the 9007 halogen lamp to the LED lamp I found the position of the LED chips were NOT the same distance from the base of the housing infact they were about an 1/8" SHORTER. I then decided to try a different LED manufacturer I purchased a set of Sealight 9007's. To my amazement the Sealights had their LED chip position about 1/8" LONGER than the halogen lamps. The comparison was dramatic all of a sudden the headlights had the typical "horizontal cutoff" that you see on foreign head light manufacturers i.e. like HELLA or BOSCH. Because the LED's draw less current the BCM (Body Control Module) is not functioning properly it is not throwing any codes just the dimmer tiller is not working properly. I have purchased a "Ballast Resistor" dongol to plug in between the lamp assembly and the chassis loom the resistors will draw the correct current and the BCM will then function properly. I hope this info is of benefit to you and everyone else, be sure to readjust your headlights so as not to blind "oncoming drivers" it is nice to truly be able to see the road.
Is it wort the money for the H.I.D I want to buy some hella lights like that, but I just have my normal lights. I need something brighter, but can't afford tons of lights. Thanks for any info. And great video.
did u say h3 hid light buld??? this is cool I want to buy some hella now thati can see u can put hids on it even better..have you had any problems with them?
can the glass housing take the heat from the hid light and how does the heat inside and the cold outside affect the glass is there chances of the glass cracking?

Yes H3 style HID bulb. No problem so far I been running 6 Hella 500 HID for more then a year

good video should make one on how you ran all ur wires and how u mounted the light as well as the ballast.
Hella 500 are relatively cheap used. I pick up mine for about $40 a pair and a $38 HID kit so $80 for a pretty bright light
AutomotiveMD what HID kit did you used? I want to do this to mine.
can you provide a picture or video of what the beam pattern looks like after the HID retrofit.
thanks,
Steve

Thats HELLA bright :-)
Good job... looks clean and love the truck
The set up im using have been doing well. No water problems so far
nice man you should show us how far the light beam goes
My beams are driving beams pattern. But Hella 500 comes in both driving and fog pattern
I had the ballasts in a metal box for sockets which i bolted to the roof basket
No water gets in? I'm planning on doing this but I want to make sure the original grommet will seal the light from water even without wires in it.
great install, what beam pattern do the Hella 500's have? I'd like to have 2 driving beam and 2 pencil beam for long distance.
i bought hella but it comes the light with 55w and i replaced with 100w... my question is if my hella will be work and if it won´t break
@05smoketitan11 The NIH kit used in the conversion was a Xentec HID kit from ebay
What about the original hole in the back of the housing where the wires used to pass through? Did you seal these off with something??
Is it wort the money for the H.I.D I want to buy some hella lights like that, but I just have my normal lights. I need something brighter, but can't afford tons of lights. Thanks for any info. And great video.
What k hid worked the best. With the most light output.
did you find any heat changes with the lense itself as I have a set of hella wrectangles I would like to fit with hid??? cheers
+DRIVER50L no heat problems
Hi, nice video! What about the hole you made ? Shouldn't it be sealed ?
did u say h3 hid light buld??? this is cool I want to buy some hella now thati can see u can put hids on it even better..have you had any problems with them?
I just pull out the wires out of the original rubber piece and put it back into the hole
My 700 hella glass broken how can i buy
Love it!!! I'm doing it right now 😂😂😂😂
@militaryjeepers1 The HID kit was brought from ebay
hid brand?
How about led?
just FYI it is highly illegal on the road, its for offroad only
Thx The HID kit was brought on eBay
where do you mount the power boxes for the HID? i want to run to my roof
How did you wire up the ballasts?
can the glass housing take the heat from the hid light and how does the heat inside and the cold outside affect the glass is there chances of the glass cracking?
If is glass ( and it is) you can bet it will take any light you trow at it. Glass is made of melted sand, remember?
how many batteries do u have?
Have you had any problems with the hids draining your battery?
no not at all
HID are usually 35w... that's less than the stock 500 light bulb.
+Sponge Bob Get 55w HIDs....
Do you have teh links to the HID conversion you used?
+Wesley Comeaux any ebay H7 HID would do. Btw im selling that setup
+AutomotiveMD you're selling the ones in the video or converted setups
+Wesley Comeaux yes it is actually the whole Hella setup off my 4runner in a box right now
Can you do this with LEDs???
never tried, but if it have enough clearance, i dont see why not.
I have the Hella 700's. Can they be opened the same way?
Yes
no
cover is close to the bulb, you must do another way.
