    Alright I’m actually excited for this! Not that I’m a DDP master I’m pretty crap and can only finish the first loop on it, but it’s been fun following the progress. And you’re one of the only sources I’d trust on a true opinion of its accuracy. Hopefully perfecting one Cave core makes others that much easier to do and there is overlap in the tech.

    Your official seal of approval for a DDP game is all I need to know. Next time I'm on the Mister I'll be checking it out, and see if I can die just as effectively as on an emulator 😂 Seriously though great work on following this from beta and seeing it through to a review at the end. I hope this and future Cave cores help sell more of them. I'm not sure how new features like stage selects etc can be added to the game unless they already existed on the original hardware/dip switches, otherwise it's a change to the software and ROM and not the core itself that runs it. But I'm not familiar with the actual PCB and what options it may have had for arcade operators that can be replicated. Other than that it's the same reason most FPGA cores have no save states, they are very difficult to implement without causing other types of glitches.

    • @TheElectricUnderground
      @TheElectricUnderground  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks my dude! Yeah adding stage select will involve some Rom manipulation, I 'll message him to see if that is a possibility :-)

  • @theseabass

    I think FPGA will eventually become the preferred way to play arcade games amongst the hardcore gaming crowd. There's a lot going for it with variety in video output options, exact refresh rate match, many supported controller options, can be extremely accurate in the hands of the right developer, and most importantly, can do an exact match of the PCB for input lag. It may not become the defacto for shmups on Mister itself, but maybe in the future when we have more powerful FPGA platforms and more cores ported to them, people will start looking to it as the gold standard. (I personally want to see Mushihimesama and Futari on Mister, but I don't know if it's powerful enough to support it.)

    If the C button is just a rapid fire, you can simply bind the standard fire button to two separate buttons on your arcade stick, and then just enable turbo for that second fire button. should fill the same need for now, until the mra's are updated. just choose yes after binding your buttons when it asks if you want to bind a second set, and skip everything except the fire button. (skip with spacebar or the osd button on a controller)

    • @TheElectricUnderground
      @TheElectricUnderground  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly this doesn t work in ddp (I tried it) because then the rapid takes dominance over the concentrated and it adds this wierd delay and messes up the timing a bunch

    One note for streamers who have a PVM or another 15khz monitor. The Vsync_adjust settings doesn't touch the raw analog output of the Mister. Meaning you can set it to the triple buffered vsync_adjust=0 setting and send the HDMI signal directly to a capture device, while still enjoying the benefits of a lagless raw analog signal through the CRT. Very handy if you're working with a cranky capture device. If you're actually playing the game through the HDMI signal, then definitely turn vsync_adjust=2 for lagless play.

    • @twotone8357
      @twotone8357 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheElectricUnderground Yeah, it's quite handy. This does not apply to 31khz vga computer monitors, as those need the scaler in place to output 15khz native content, but for consumer CRTs using component or PVMs, it's very nice being able to have our cake and eat it to in terms of being able to play and stream at the same time.

    I’m two years late for this comment but can’t you use the dual output feature from the MiSTer with the I/0 card? Play on your CRT while you send a compatible signal to your capture card. As long as you’re not changing the speed the core is running, it will not impact your analog output.
