  • HP ProLiant DL360 G5 - In this video, we will provide a helpful "Server Memory Guide" for installation and proper configuration inside your DL360 G5. We will also cover CPUs as well. This system is a 1U server running on dual Intel 5100, 5200, 5300 or 5400 series processors. We recommend utilizing two quad cores 5300 or 5400 series, such as 5345 or 5420. Part of HP's 5th Generation, this server comes with 8 DIMM slots utilizing DDR2 memory modules. This is the 1U younger brother to the DL380 G5, which supports the exact same CPUs and memory. You can only install or configure your DL360 G5 server with one type of memory, and that is Fully Buffered server memory, also known as FBIMMs. ECC Registered (RDIMM) memory modules will NOT work with the HP DL360 G5 server. Do not purchase RDIMMs and think you can install in DL360 G5. They simply will not work and are two separate styles of memory. Same goes with DDR3 memory. It is not compatible. The max memory configuration for your HP DL360 G5 server is 64GB via (8 x 8GB) DDR2 PC2-5300F 667MHz Fully Buffered Server Memory. This machine is bit older, and if you are looking to get a boost in performance, then we recommend maxing out the RAM. For under $100 you can put in 64GB, and you will get the most out of your server. The best method for installation with 2 CPUs would be 4 or 8 DIMMs. We will discuss in more depth in our video and also show you how to actually load the memory modules inside your HP DL360 G5 server.

Thank you, great video. I've got a DL360g5 at home and following your instructions I went for the ram update.
Next thing to do is add a second cpu. Atm the Intel Xeon E5420 2.5G is installed.
Little question, do the cpu's need to be the same to operate, or can I add a different one with higher Ghz?

3:38 actually no because on this older stuff the memory controller is on the motherboard and is only 1 so you can use all 8 slots while having 1 cpu, and the ram is single channel.

Tough to say without more information. I'd get a local consultant to come check it out if for your business. I'd recommend upgrading to a better server. Gen8 and Gen9 good pricing nowadays. If for homelab then probably time to retire and grab something newer to play with. Good luck. Have a nice weekend.
