  • Arduino project with 120 FPS OpenCV image processing and smooth stepper motor moves. The machine calculates the ball's 3D position from the image processing data and uses this information to control the orange ping pong ball.
A big thanks to the people at e-con Systems for supplying me with a superb See3CAM_CU135 camera which I used in this project. Find out more about the camera here:
    www.e-consystems.com/4k-usb-c...
This machine requires the following things to work:
    - 1x Teensy 4.0 Microcontroller
    - 4x StepperOnline DM442S stepper motor drivers
    - 4x Nema 17 Stepper Motors with 5:1 planetary gearbox
    - 1x 48V 8A power supply
    - 1x e-con Systems See3CAM_CU135 camera
    - 1x Windows Computer with OpenCV installed on it
    - All the parts defined the Fusion360 project
    - Custom Windows Application (made with Unity)
    Read more here:

Complete code and Fusion360 data on Github:

-Catch a falling ball without it bouncing
-Bounce from corner to corner, with 1 or 2 bounces
-Bounce / roll 2 or more balls at the same time

Catching the ball without it bouncing would be very impressive, but a back-of-the-envelope calculation tells me the the plexiglass would have to be able to move at 2~3m/s.
I think if it was capable of such speeds it wouldn't have to work so hard to launch the ball. Considering that the first time the ball lifts off the separation looks less than 1cm I'd say it's top speed is less than 0.4m/s.

We already have flying cars, but the general public cannot be trusted to fly them. Train them to fly and they will prefer to fly more practical aircraft.

Not really... imagine being pummeled repeatedly by a large version of it. You would go up and down, but it wouldn’t be fun.

@@nathanvanderpool1175 I think it's precise adjustments would be great for trampolines and being pummeled by it wouldn't seem like a problem if the trampoline would still be made of that stretchy fabric stuff

    Cute!
New challenges: tilt the desk. Turn on a fan. Use a different ball. Use a different plate. Impair one arm .
And for fun: make it play 'arcade basketball'?

can’t impair one arm if it works like I think then the ball will fall in the direction of the broken arm and the robot won’t be able to correct it
