Timely vid. Just took delivery of a Meteor 350. I had considered getting a 650, but as I’m returning to motorbiking after a 30 year absence I decided to play it safe with a more manageable bike. Glad I did now. Thanks for the review.

Your money your choice.
For me my little 350 classic red & chrome is perfect.
I got rid of a 900 Kawasaki for the Enfield .
Why?
Soul and Character which the Kawasaki although obviously much quicker all round had none just like 99% of all modern machines.
The wonderful J series lump is easy to home maintain.
A service (oil and tappets) takes 2 hours max once you know how easy the tank comes off.
Plus the smoothest gear box on any bike around .
Total Zen riding at its relaxing best.
After 50 plus years of riding I can truely say it's in the top 3 of bikes I've owned .
I'm with you on the Zen. I jumped bugger because these next 5 years will probably be the last that I comfortably can. It won't be long before I have to downsize ;-)
Hello. Thank you for all the great videos. Very well done! I bought a Meteor 350 (here in Detroit) March 2022 to get back into riding after a 38-year absence, and I just love the 350 so much. My plan was to ride the 350 a year or two and upgrade, but I am hesitant. The Meteor 650 is the obvious choice, but there are things that get into the way. 1) I do not want a lower sear height as I do ride in cities a lot and need the higher visibility, 2) Many reviews talk about the seat and rear shock stiffness, 3) I can zip around the city on the 350 with ease, and I worry the 650's weight will impair that ability. I am in Harley country here and no one here hops on a Harley to run to the shops, whereas with the Meteor I do not hesitate, 4) Some reviews talk about the gear box being clunky, 5) 350 can go long trips sniffing fuel. The power on the 350 is its weakness, but with that I have pinned that throttle only 4 times, all on the freeway going uphill and/or against the wind. I am thinking my perfect bike is the Meteor 350 as is with the new 450 engine baked in. We'll see if that happens. You point out that the 650 is growing on you so that is hopeful. Please keep us all posted on how you feel after a few months in the 650 saddle. There might be a Meteor 650 in my future. I am fighting with myself daily on this. Many thanks.
Yes the 650 is growing on me. I can manoeuvre through city traffic as easy as I could on the 350. But being short legged the weight catches me out when stationary sometimes. I forget my feet need to be in different positions on the ground than the 350 sometimes. But the 650 rides as well and corners even better than the 350. If you have good roads, then nothing to worry about the suspension or seat. It’s on,y bad roads in Asia where the problem arises. I have since made a video about seat softening. You are right about the 450 engine in the 350 Meteor frame. That would be the perfect bike. Take the 650 for a test ride. Satisfy your curiosity. I will be doing a full review on the bike soon. You can install a kent cam from hitchcocks and open air intake cover. Increase of 5hp no more uphill wind problems.
I suggest you to adjust your rear shockers adjustment from 0 to 2 if your weight is is around 80kg or less if more than 80 kg then adjust to 3rd point i bet it'll make huge difference 🙏🙏🙏as far as i can tell from the experience of riding most R.E bikes i can clearly say that they are heavily customised for Indian people who carries 2-3 pillion all the time and that's why they made rear suspension stiff so that after more weight are put on they automatically becomes soft because solo riding culture is still new in India 😅😅😅 there are still 90% people who still prefer riding with pillion here in my country but again instant solution is to set your shocker adjustment from 0 to 2 or maybe 3 if you are little heavyweight and buy gel seats or better cushioned seat otherwise rear shocker would automatically becomes softer after a year or 2 of rides.

Thank you. Already done and feeling better, but does raise the bike by a few mm. It’s the only real major criticism I have of the bike. Everything else is perfect. Thank you India for keeping the brand Royal Enfield alive. 🙏

I have never riden or owned a motorcylcle before and have been doing my research. I need something affordable and the fuel efficiency of the 350 is amazing! Thank you for sharing this video. As a new rider, I cetainly want to ease into riding and it seems that the 350 is the perfect starter bike.Less expensive too!
Yes the 350 platform is perfect for you. Until you find your feet, and have a bigger wallet. Running costs, and maintenance are more expensive on bigger cc bikes. More oil, quicker true change etc. I loved my 2.5 years on my Meteor 350 🙏

I bought my Meteor as part of a long downsizing process. (Frail old man syndrome)
The 650s never came on my list. Way too heavy.
I wasn't so pleased with the forward footrests on the Meteor and considered changing them. I spent so much time procrastinating about it, I got used to them.
The forward footrests on the SM look quite a bit more extreme. No thanks.
Excellent comparison and very useful.
I have a Meteor and a Hunter now. So different but both capable of 20kph more than I ride. Even on the German Autobahns.

Thank you for this video. I no need 650 as I am so happy with 350 but there is a temptation. We want things we don’t need. To be honest i live in uk where all speed limits are 40mph or 50 mph. You so lucky if you can do national speed limit where my 350 feels very good. I use it as daily. I love this bike and I am so happy with it. I guess I need to stop looking at other bikes and be happy with what I have 😊

@@Teacher-T-Thailand Do You regret swapping 350 to 650 ? You sound a bit like You are.
You could choose lower rear shocks then take centre stand off and cut out appropriate amount then have it re welded. A friend of mine did that and said it was real simple to do.
Yep. Done now. Put lowered shock on. And just carry a small 20mm piece of wood to run the rear tyre over, to raise the bike so I can put it on the centre stand 😂🙏

Great to hear 1st hand comparison. Much appreciated as I have a 2021 Meteor and was considering an upgrade to the 650. After your vlog I have reconsidered. My fireball does everything I need perfectly. I don't ride on super highways any more , I need a lighter more manoeuvrable bike due to my age, and I appreciate great mileage. Well done. Cheers 🥃
The 350 certainly is a lighter easy manoeuvrable bike. The 650 gives the a bit more adrenaline rush, which I craved. But as I get older I can see myself downsizing to the 350 again. 🙏
Great to get your honest impressions of the new 650 Meteor. I'm picking up my new 350 Meteor Supernova next this week and looking forward to experiencing it. I've previously owned a 650 Interceptor which was a nice bike but quite heavy and I've enjoyed a KTM 390 Adventure which was a light and a lot of fun to ride. Sorry to hear of the demise of your 350 Meteor so soon after selling it. A good lesson to be learned from that, as I have learnt the hard way, is that wearing gloves and some skin protection is always a good idea as you never know when something unexpected might happen. It can be a long, slow, painful recovery when your skin gets shredded on the road!

I new it, almost twice the engine size an almost half the mileage. I’ve still got my 350, but have test ridden the 650 an I think the crap steering lock is due to the fat upside down forks. The right way up I think would’ve produced a betting lock. On the 350 you can lower the front forks 20mm just by sliding them down the yolks an Hagen shocks do 20mm shorter shocks for the rear. I think I mentioned this before, if you take the preload up one or two clicks I think you’ll get a better ride. My 350 is definitely a keeper, but still considering a 650 as well as it’s almost half the price of a T100 👍😎
Couldn't agree more. I'm of the same opinion and in much the same boat, I even own a secondhand T100 which is awful to ride and up for sale after only a couple of months 😮
The 650 is a winning price here in Thailand. A new one is still cheaper than 4 to 5 year old Triumphs, and you get a 3 year warranty. Which is what gave me the confidence to do a long trip in the first week of ownership. I will certainly be on the look out for a second hand Meteor 350 in the future though. But it will be difficult to adjust daily between the two. I still find it difficult to adjust after 1 month 😂🙏

I as you know am at that crossroads right now with the difference I'm not considering getting rid of the Meteor I currently own,and not so sure I need the SM anymore for longer rides across Europe?Much appreciated and more foid for thought 🤔😲
You are welcome. Yes I bought my 650 for longer rides. The engine is perfect and more than capable. I just need to work on the comfort issues to make a perfect bike for me. 🙏
A car pulling out in front of me is my nightmare! It was interesting to hear your comparisons and I would not disagree with your findings👍👍. I have two Euro 4 spec Interceptor 650s and I have kept track of every gas fill up and the mileage. I average 79mpg (UK) on the bike that I ride in the countryside and 67mpg (UK) with the bike that I ride in Bangkok city. The Interceptor has a good turning circle, unlike the Super Meteor apparently 😁 I am taller, so I can flat foot the bike. The R.E. 650s are moderately powered motorbikes, but I will always argue that for roads in Thailand, they have all the power that is required, certainly for solo riding. With all of the potential road hazards here in the provinces, such as dogs, snakes, chickens, children running out, etc. and in the city other motorcyclists with a lack of imagination as well as errant motorists, going fast is not advised. My approach is to enjoy the ride and take in the scenery, rather than to try and go around bends quickly and this approach will hopefully keep me safe. The Meteor 350 is also an ideal bike for Thailand in my opinion. Your video quality is excellent!
Thanks for your detailed kind comment. I test rode the Interceptor over 2 years ago at the same time test riding the Meteor 350 before purchase. Being a short 28 inch inside leg, the foot pegs on the Interceptor were straight into my shins every time. So that ruled the bike out for me. But with the good reviews of the Interceptor engine, this gave me the confidence to change to the 650. I’m enjoying the power, acceleration, and engine braking for corners. But it is a heavy bike for us shorties. If ever you venture to the North give me a heads up 👍🙏

From what I gather you need to increase preload on rear shocks. Sit a little more forward in the bucket of the seat.
The preload adjustment does work. Makes it a bit more softer. And tomorrow I will attempt fitting the gel seat. May be costly if I get it wrong lol
In India we have hardly any road where we can ride at high speed above 100 km/ hr. So 350 cc is always smart choice for comfort and economy. So the 650 cc is only fantasy.
That is a real shame. But people from around the world thank India for keeping the brand and legacy of Royal Enfield alive 🙏

Oh what a shame that your 350 suffered such a injury I hope it wasn’t too serious, the 650 is quicker but you definitely pay for it in many ways and I honestly think the 350 is a far more versatile bike
The 350 is back on the road after some minor repairs, and the new owner is fine. Versatile is the word 🙏
You think the 650 is a Beast, try a Goldwing 1800... I have a Meteor 350 and love it. I've had three Wings in my life and love them. However, it's time to retire the 1800. I will be "downsizing" from the Wing to a Super Meteor 650 as soon as an Oregon dealer has a Celestial Red.
You have good long straight roads in America. All that horse power of an 1800 would be lost here in Thailand. The Super Meteor 650 produces more than enough horse power for me here. So you are going for the touring edition? Kind of makes sense after a Goldwing. Hope you get it soon. The first 500km the engine runs hot. After first service things cool down and things loosen up. It’s a nice colour combination. Enjoy 🙏
