I've done lots of woodworking/building. I have no experience processing logs with a sawmill. After watching hundreds of this type video on YT, I find it somehow mesmerizing and enjoyable to watch these logs being transformed into lumber. Thanks for posting.

I recognize this process! Nice editing man! Isn't it wonderful to have an extra set of skilled hands around when milling? You do all these little things that and make all these extra movements that can suddenly be eliminated with help. I swear I walk three miles around that mill when I am going through a bunch of logs like this. Good work here.

As I have done from the countless videos before mine! All art is derivative from what came before it. To take something someone has done and tweak it, twist it, shape it to make it their own is the process of creation of art. There is no shame whatever in that. I really appreciate the comment though. I am looking forward to warmer weather so i can start playing around a bit more with trickery. My batteries don't last very long in the cold and I have been in lumber production mode of late. @@falllineridge
What I like a lot about your videos is how you change views from many angles to make it more interesting. I usually watch whole way thru each one. Much more engaging and not boring! Your upgrade continues to be very productive and much safer than tractor. God bless you and family.
The old timers around my house will not build with white pine. They prefer yellow pine for strength in the bones of the structure. Looks like a nice day's work. :)
Have you thought about making removable extensions for your ramp to load directly from the trailer? This would save wear and tear on the winch. Plus you could roll the logs straight from the trailer.
Good idea....Look up Smart Car Ramps. Mine are 12' long, 12" wide and fold in half. 58 lb per ramp. Capacity over a ton for the pair. I offload my Smart car from the deck of the Volvo 730 rv hauler. These would definitely work for you.
I've made several winch booms and installed at these little Mills they really take alot of work out of it. All it takes is like a six inch piece of pipe, a front spindle off an old two ton truck welded on top and a four inch tubing welded out from it with a small electric (3500lb four-wheeler winch) with half of a logging tong on the cable, takes all care of all your turning and positioning needs....
A lot more energy to saw logs without having to wrestle them logs onto mill Log deck and raising the mill off the ground sure does make life easier. nice job and nice lumber

It's been a while since I've seen any of your videos. I see you've made some changes. Getting the mill up off the ground and building a ramp, with a winch look really good. Sweet.
Nice job. I've thought that if I milled my own wood, I'd have a similar set up......but to get the logs to the level of the mill, I'd have a welded frame that I could slip a floor jack under and get them up that way. But the mill would have to be lower to the ground as most floor jacks won't raise more than 17".
I really like the winch/ramp set up you have built. I have a smaller hobby mill and I have been thinking of upgrading because of size limitations. Looks like you are having a good time with yours.
Looking at ur mill gets me to thinking that the exhaust shoot could be longer. Here's an idea for that. Get a piece of PVC 4" pipe about 18" long. Cut one end about 4-6" in from the end. U could use a t pattern. Once cut then carefully heat the end of ur cut from one to another them fold back once the PCC has softened some. Thus will make flanges to attach the pipe to the mill. This will help so u font walk in sawdust while ur milling. Also u could try to use a winch to load onto the mill if u could get it to in the other direction. Good luck. Reminds me of when I worked with some Amish friends in their mill.

Looks great. what would happen if you extended the cable over the track? If you put a hook on the end couldn't you rotate the log instead of doing it by hand?

My neighbor helps me sometimes and it’s the little things that speed it up like holding or rolling a log and moving the slabs. Plus having someone to talk to always makes work more fun.

I am curious why you didn’t use the height of trailer to load onto your ramps, just need couple of 4 x4. Think it would save you some time an lots of work. I do have a sawmill on trailer. I use hand boat winch an have electric winch with remote. To load turn an position logs. Back savers are a good thing.
Any possibility in making a metal funnel for the cut sawdust coming out that is further away from your cutter and lower sow you won’t be walking in it and it blowing all over you? Keep up the good work.
here is a idea for something that will lift and move the logs from platform to the track.. ever see those bottle jacks from harbor freight that run on air. make two beams hooked to cross members that will raise those beams at a pivot point to lift and roll the logs onto the track. a cheap compressor to run it.
might i make a suggestion when you pull up with the trailer right next to the ramp use some 4 inch angle iron from the platform to the trailer and just roll the timber over into position save using the winch ,
Just an idea. What if you cut inserts into,your log ramp at various locations for (idk the terminology) but like little safety sticks to keep your logs from rolling backwards off the ramp. Hope this makes sense.

That new log deck and loading ramp with winch sure did make things go faster. How much time do you figure it saves in log loading and handling vs doing it the old way with the tractor and on the ground?

OLD SCHOOL MACHINIST I mostly just plain saw. This mill is too small to do any decent width quarter sawing. I slab oak sometimes but I usually just make boards out of pine.
Steve Amiaga I try to mill so I don’t waste a bunch of lumber in those off cuts. I end up throwing the waste in the burn pile. I could go back and mill them but with this mill it is very time consuming and labor intensive.
Question since you have been milling your own wood and use to sharpen your blades. What is your opinion on cutting logs with the bark on VS . Per Removal of bark ? I have never seen you cut a log without having bark on it seems work out just fine for you.
Bark is really only an issue if there's dirt or rocks in it from dragging the log or another reason. Sure, there's probably some dust in a standing tree, but not really enough to justify the effort of removing the bark. I don't sharpen my own blades anymore.

I notice you're using the LT10 manual...Have you tried the LT15 with the hand crank and would that be easier than just the push model. I'm asking because I'm considering purchasing the LT15 and actually like the idea of pushing it manually. All that cranking would seem to cause an issue with CTS. Thanks for the great videos!
Hello. I noticed that on some woods you cut some wide planks with a good amount of bark left on the edges instead of doing standard 2" x 4" (or whatever). Are they allowed to dry further and does it shrink to lesser size or do you allow for shrinkage? How long does "green wood" need to dry before used in construction? And what are other standard sizes that are most valuable?
Tommy Soloski I’ll let these dry. Air drying takes about a year per inch, the solar kiln dries in 30 days. I built my kiln with green lumber and it worked fine...but you’ll always get shrinkage and maybe some warping.
May I say " nice production increase due to the platform"? A couple of extra hands doesn't hurt either! Now you need to make a toeboard from a scissor jack and get it mounted. Also, I wish my mower would move that fast! Lol!
Is there any reason you have to roll it to make it square? Could you in theory just cut it straight one way and go down the whole thing then cut the rest with a circular saw?

beboboy mann I just change it when it gets too dull to cut easily. I send my blades to Wood Mizer for sharpening.

Never had that problem. I wonder if it was a defective blade? I have thrown the blade before, it's kind of a shock. I get mine from Wood Mizer.

If you have no other use for the bark scab lumber, you should advertize it for firewood. That would be Win-win.
