Water-one of the main reason my family migrated from my village to city in 90's. Right now over the years water scarcity in my village is same.To do something for it i did tiny Shramdan this year in the Village near by my village. i seen the work and unity of people there,Now i want to work for my village too. I want to take a Training by panni foundation so that i could work for my village too next year. Thank you these two words are very less to say. Only my actions would help here. Many Indian in India may not know this: The water table (underground water) in the subcontinent is declining at a rapid rate due to agricultural activities and urbanization. Although India is blessed with monsoon, the replenishment rate by monsoon is still outpaced by human's extraction rate. Thus, to catch up or gain an upper hand in refilling underground aquefers, watershed management is a must. It is the only way to prevent India from becoming another Sahara desert. Remember, it is drough that wiped out Indus civilization. Water shortage is the most imminent threat to mankind than the threat of world war 3.

indi123: I think only a few people may think over population is not an issue. The rest of the world recognize there is problem with over population, but it is beyond their capacity to control it. Marriage is a natural thing. And there is only ONE effective way to do birth control that is through birth-control pills. BUT, birth control pills are VERY, VERY expensive (even for average American here in the USA). Unless India can produce it cheaply and widely distribute it to the mass, over population is basically unavoidable till some evil people use weapon of mass destruction to reduce it (via ww3).

indi123: In both India and China, there are NO welfare system to assist elder citizens when they reach retirement ages. And daughters are traditionally married away; thus, no ones are left in the house to assist them financially. Thus, the only source of help is from their son(s) (and from wives of their sons as well). This is the general mentality of people in third world countries, not just India.
As for the mindset, how long does it takes to educate a person who will have a serous commitment on birth control? How long will India population take to reach Japan's level of mindset? (Japan's has reaches zero or negative population growth).
