I was a soap viewer for many years. You can say what you want about the possession storyline on DAYS, but when it was on? It was pure fun. My mother and I thought it was camp and it was fabulous! No harm in that.
+sugarmag78 Lol!! My aunt is a big DAYS fan, she's been watching the show since the mid '70s. I recall watching an episode one day over her house and she was explaining that storyline to me. She told me how the core characters were being temporary killed off, but they're all coming back to life on island. I just kept thinking who in the hell is writing this mess? This shit is crazy, just straight over the top! I couldn't help but laugh, lol!!
Lol... Days could have easily had taken all the top 10 spots on this list. 1) Marlena's possession 2) Marlena as the serial killer and everyone ending up in that stupid island 3) Kristen, the fake pregnancy and her dopelgangers with the fake teeth 4) Marlena and Kristen trapped in the wine cellar and the Elvis wedding 5) Hope and Princess Gina; that stupid puzzle box 6) Marlena a prisoner of Stefano in the sewers of Paris and the virtual reality goggles 7) Those Dimera twins from outer space 8) Everyone ending up in the haunted/mysterious town in Louisiana 9) Carrie and Mike affair on the flying bed 10) That time when the Days became a teenage soap. They aged all their kids in like a year to become teenagers
I haven't watched it in years but in its heydays, Days of Our Lives was THE premier daytime soap to watch. The had the most ridiculous but addicting storylines.
juaquino The time steffeno smoked out the hospital that only had a real effect on his daughter years later. Kristen taking a baby out of someone elses womb without them knowing.
juaquino My mum was an avid fan of DOOL here in Australia then she stopped watching it because they skipped 3 years so Australia would catch up with USA.Yes I agree weird storylines alright.
Here's a ridiculous plotline for you, Watch Mojo: a woman falls in love with the man who RAPED her and they become one of the most famous super couples in soap opera history. Sounds familiar? It was how the Luke and Laura Spencer storyline started way back in the late 70's.
What is crazy about that, is I heard that that storyline and later getting married is what saved General Hospital from going off the air. I could be wrong about that.
I used to watch Passions with my mom every day after school, and Tabitha & Timmy weren't even that crazy, though they caused so many insane things to happen. But that show was completely nuts, evil zombie doppelganger, a pregnant woman getting kidnapped by her rival and having to give birth in a hole in a basement while being terrorized by the rival dressed as a clown, the orangutan falling in love with a human, a half man half woman serial killer, and Not Gay Chad having an incest baby.
Swifty Same here! I watched it all the time... and out of all of the storylines to pick, they pick Timmy?! Every week there was something more ridiculous than him happening!
I've watch Bold and Beautiful since like 2009 and they've had dumber things than that (that I've seen): 1. Oliver sleeping with Brooke at Hope's graduation party, him thinking it was Hope and her thinking it was Ridge. 2. Liam and Wyatt coming out of left field just so Bill has kids 3. Hope getting mad that Liam is constantly flip flopping between her and Steffy, then her flip flopping between him and Wyatt, getting pregnant by Wyatt, and losing the baby 4. Steffy riding her motorcycle and losing her and Liam's baby, on the Friday episode before mother's day (lovely), and my favorite: 5. Bill leaving his wife who has severe postpartum depression for her sister, Brooke, who gets pregnant (despite being over 50 years old), and then losing the baby. Gotta love the Bold and the Beautiful...
MrJuly1990ish it's getting real incest-y now. Besides Rick/Maya, Katie/Bill, and Quinn/Deacon most of the couples are somehow related to each other. These families need to go out more. Plus it's the same storylines recycled. I'm counting down the days until a Ridge/Brooke reunion.
+MrJuly1990ish I've always said the only reason Eric gets away with his nastiness is because John McCook is so charming and loveable. He's like Cary Grant- you can't hate him.
Even more ridiculous than Marlena's possession was when Days of our lives "killed off" most of the main cast only to appear on a secret island that later explodes but not until two guys have a sword fight in the middle of the exploding island. Or the time they had clone twins from outer space that Stefano made with Marlena's DNA and genetically engineered and such.
actually I think that it was Roman's sperm and Kate's egg planted in Marlena and Stephano convinced Marlena and Tony that the twins--Rex and Cassie--were theirs. Now that is some confusing shit.
@@kevinpayton2664 Since I commented this there have been some amazing terrible storylines in Days. Jake and Stefan with dead/undead vivi has been stupid. The absolute travesty of recent Ben and Ciara Rolf trying to clone Stefano in Kayla ....Stefano mind chip in Steve Chad banging Gwen Sarah kidnapped by Kristen who was acting almost the entire cast ON HER OWN Mayor Jack Literally everything involving Eve Xander/Victor baby swap Every dead person ever, being alive again Hope leaving town to cover up her not staying on the cast and never being seen again Last week Rafe was talking to a stuffed bear Nicole/Xander and Sammi/Lucas blackmail battle Drug Mule Gwen Most of this 2020/21 The writers have gone crazy go nuts with this soap and I'm not sure how I feel about it anymore. Also now I despise Ciara and Theo and they were cool characters before.
A witch gave birth to a weird monster in "Passions" and you picked the Timmy character? Haha! Seriously, though, that soap opera was AWESOMELY-RIDICULOUS!!! There should be a top 10 specifically for "Passions."
You included The Moldavian Massacre from Dynasty and Pam's lengthy dream from Dallas. But you failed to include FALCON CREST wherein Angela Channing shockingly discovers that her much hated business rival and stepson Richard is actually her real biological child who had been secretly kidnapped after she gave birth and was told that the baby was stillborn many years ago.
Strangely…I liked that Richard ended up being Angela’s son. I liked how awkward their relationship/rivalry was after it was revealed. Off the subject…they never should have killed off Melissa. Melissa was the best rival to Angela on the entire series. With Richard coming in a good second place.
@@hx3trappedThe problem with the surprise RETCONNING of Angela and Richard as mother and son is that it made Lana Turner's tragic death at the end of season 2 into the funniest demise in primetime soap opera history. After Julia was revealed to be the murderess of Melissa's father, she quickly pulled out a gun and shot Chase. Jacqueline afterwards tried to protect "her other son" Richard and was killed by Julia. Now we all know that was total bull crap. What really happened is that Lana Turner's character was hurriedly trying to get out of harm's way and stupidly came between Richard and Julia who accidentally shot her instead. "EXCUSE ME, RICHARD. I AM GETTING THE HELL OUT OF HERE. WAIT. JULIA. RICHARD IS YOUR ...." BANG !!! That's what really happened.
@@hx3trapped agreed. Richard and Angela were great as mother and son in season 7. The thirteen story was wild! Killing Melissa did kill the series. She was the best rival for Angela and she was just coming into her own when they foolishly killed her off.
Holy shit. I'm sitting here, thinking, "I remember my mom watching Days of our Lives one time, and some chick was possessed by the devil. How is that not on here?" Lo and behold.
Daggerfall40 I agree; this video does need a part two. There are so many really ridiculous story lines for soaps, but somehow… They work… For a little while anyway. LOL. I have to say, the Reva cloning story, just sounded ridiculous. LOL. I've seen a couple of clips of it, and at first, it didn't seem half bad, but… It just got ridiculous. Same with Marlena's possession story.
Ok, the Reva clone storyline on Guiding Light was painfully stupid and I couldn’t believe the actors were doing the storyline with straight faces. I remember the western storyline on OLTL when I was at my grandma’s daycare and I watched soaps instead of taking a nap. But the demonic possession storyline on Days of our Lives was so much fun. I really enjoyed it when it aired.
"One Life to Live" doesn't have a "ridiculous and laughable reputation." It produced the groundbreaking and realistic Marty Saybrooke gang rape storyline, for goodness' sake. From what I know, the show ignored the time traveling storyline after that storyline was done and over with.
I agree. OLtL had its zanier storylines, here and there (Vicki/Nikki going up in the "spaceship" during a near-death experience and being judged by the powers-that-be, during the 80s, springs to mind), but shows like Days of Our Lives have had far crazier, off-genre supernatural shit happen left-right-and-center (Stephano coming back from the dead -- literally -- umpteen times; Marlena being possessed by Satan, and later becoming the serial killer of Salem and murdering god-knows how many major and supporting characters... only to have all of that magically retconned...; etc. and et al...). Most soaps have their storylines that go far to the wonk-side, and it's something that's forgiven (for the most part) over time. OLtL, however, wasn't the most grievous of offenders by any means...
I watched Days at one point many years ago (early 90s) but then the plot lines got dumber and dumber. Now they've even brought back old characters like Shane, Steve and Kayla. Back when I watched it, it started feeling more like John & Marlena were the only 2 characters that mattered. But after catching a few eps recently characters keep coming back from the dead, Stefano is STILL alive (even tho the guy who played him died), and kids are SORASed. I'm not saying it's a bad show but it looks like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel for ratings.
@Bumming Bummer Actually, that storyline was critically acclaimed at the time and in the 2000's the did a tribute to it by having two characters ("Bo" -"Clint's" brother and "Rex" -"Clint's" son) get caught in a time warp and sent back into the past.
It also was pioneering in terms of having interracial romances, as well as having the first openly gay character on daytime (played by a young Ryan Phillipe), and having the first gay male couple to get married on daytime tv. OLTL was very groundbreaking
I love Timmy (RIP) but I was a Theresa/ Ethan (original) fan. Do you know what happened to the actress? I have seen a lot them on other soaps but haven't seen her anywhere.
Cherub200298 I know she ended up marrying the actor who played Fox, having kids, and then getting a divorce... and then i think she was on All My Children for a little while?
I dont believe so... i know she hosts face off on SyFy, because her dad is like a super famous make-up artist but i think thats really all she has done
Cherub200298 The actress that played Teresa was on a reality show about former soap actresses trying to start a production company. I think it was on Pop.
+Amelia Morgan I agree and maybe the most shocking moments in soap opera plots like the Hospital Rape Storyline in OLTL in 1994? Or the top 10 soap opera villains (which if you do better have Todd Manning on there!)
But these plots make these sopies so much more entertaining. Although, the people who live in these towns should really learn self defense because someone is always getting kidnapped.
People love to mock soaps, and yet no one talks about some of the groundbreaking storylines they did. All My Children: The First Legal Abortion in television history The Bold and the Beautiful: Stephanie's abusive childhood General Hospital: BJ's Heart and Stone dying of AIDS Guiding Light: Roger dying of ALS One Life to Live: Marty's Gang rape The Young and the Restless: Katherine's Face Lift
Cecilia Mayora you know that scene from "face off" when nic cage talks with pauses "Take his face... off"?! i'm like that for hours now with "Iconic.... cheeses"
If I remember right on the Sunday morning show special about "a guiding light" a female lead character tries to kill herself by driving into the ocean off a bridge. Washes up on an island of inedgenious people where she is made queen, then the rival prince ships her off the island to where she winds up in an Amish community all the while she has amnesia.
Passion needs to have it's own top ten most ridiculous plotlines. Even though the whole show was a crazy mess. I still watched it, and I'm rewatching it now.
+Jamie Murphy It was. Ken Corday the executive producer at Days said that they got the idea for Marlena's possession from The Exoricist. It was cheesy but very entertaining and Deidre Hall acted her ass off. That took guts and an enormous amount of talent.
The possession story introduced me to DAYS as a youngun. It was cheesy, but a lot of it was well done and scary. I've been watching the show off and on since then. I've been watching the show consistently since the 2011 reboot
Oh man, I remember the "Marlena Possessed by the Devil" storyline. That freaked me out as a little kid. The show's gotten a lot worse in recent years, though.
Days of Our Lives still has ridiculous plotlines, haha. They brought back Will from the dead using some magical medicine, and then Susan brainwashed Will into thinking he was her son, and that his real mother was actually his ex wife, even tho he's gay... Gotta love soaps!
If you think the "Dallas" one, where a whole season was just a dream, you'd be shocked with a spanish (from spain, not latin-america) series called "The Serrano". In it's final episode, where every single plotline was getting convoluted, the protagonist throws himself of a bridge in despair......only to wake up at the first episode. The whole series was just a dream. Not a season, THE WHOLE 8 SEASONS. There're still jokes around it 7 years after.
that doesn't sound too bad because the show still finished even when the whole show was a dream. But if one season is a dream it's a waste of time because the show continues
Esteban Bottini YOU FURGOT THE UNITED STATES KINGDOM OF HUMAN BRAZIL PROVINCES AND NORTHERN ROCK BAND OF BROTHERS IN ARMS ABOUT THE PHILIPPINES FEDERATION OF AMERICA and MARS
Compared to most of the others, "Dallas" bringing Bobby back by it being a dream isn't that bad. There was no other way considering that we saw him get hit, die at the hospital, and even though there was no open casket scene, we saw the funeral. I think they made the best decision they could.
the easiest way would have been Bobby falling into a coma after the accident for months or a year and dreaming everything that was shown. At least that would explain why so many things happened while Pamela dreamt a whole season in one night only lol
I was watching DAYS as a kid and loved the time Marlena was obsessed, it's camp, silly, crazy but it was super fun and it's one of the most iconic things from the US soaps.
The thing though the GH "Ice Princess" storyline with the Cassadines and Luke and Laura was crazy popular at the time and resulted in the Luke and Kaura wedding with Liz Taylor as a guest star and the highest rated episode in daytime Soap history
And I thought a escaped human trafficking victim going to the Turkish police not managing/attempting to do any mimic or speak broken English, which resulted in her somehow being arrested because they asked for her stolen passport, which results in the prostitution ring owner to magically discover the exact police station with her documents, resulting in him being allowed to take her with him without any police interference or her own, leading to the woman being led back to a life of sex slavery, this time without any added security, resulting in her escaping at least a couple other times within the next three of six soap opera runtime months (before its end) was god damn stupid. Compared to this Brazilian soap operas should win oscars!
Don't be fooled by this top 10, some soaps are good. General Hospital has been the testosterone friendly, action/adventure/espionage/mafia soap since the 70's. Tony Geary who plays Luke Spencer has 8 Best Actor Emmy Awards. He permanently leaves the show this week, after being the coolest, badass motherfucker on daytime television for 35 years. He will be missed.
The ice princess saga was the best on GH. If they wanted to put General Hospital on the list they should have put Faison trying to steal Casey the Alien crystals so he could take over the world.
Bobby Ewings dream wasnt so bad, it the only way to resolve the unresolveable..... it could have been fixed so easy though with one simple scene of Bobby staging his death or witnessing a mob hit and put into witness relocation program.
No the easiest way would have been Bobby falling into a coma after the accided for months or a year and dreaming everything that was shown. At least that would explain why so many things happened while Pamela dreamt a whole season in one night only lol
I remember in high school, a bunch of friends and I were watching some really boring drama movie set in some Mexican island so that we didn't have to read the book, we thought about endings like these for the movie, some old man on his death bed going "it's time for me to go home" and a beam of light comes from the sky and starts taking him to the mothership, the grandmother was actually the terminator and goes "not under my watch, bitch" and starts blasting away. That was the most fun we had watching that film, I can't believe someone actually wrote stuff like this for their shows
Practically every episode of Dynasty I saw had Linda Evans and Joan Collins in a fight. I can't believe that they always try to confront each other practically every episode to have a fight. One time they ended up in a pool. LOL
My favorite soap, All My Children, didn't have too many wacko moments, but I have to mention Natalie in the well and Janet Green coming back as Jane Cox thanks to prison plastic surgery (and Harold the dog being the only one to recognize her). In fact, anything with Janet was pretty wild.
Janet was cool in the beginning. It was her obsession over her sister Natalie that drove her over the edge. When she returned, I was expecting Kate Collins but Robin Mattson took the role, hence the plastic surgery explanation.
I remember that storyline. Janet dumped the dog in the back of a truck. I think she drugged it. Every now and then, we would see the dog on his travels back to Pine Valley. It took about a year. On the day Janet was to marry Trevor, the dog showed up at the church with the pill bottle in his mouth..... Now, THATS good soap opera writing! Good luck finding that anymore. You could say soap opera writing has become too "DISNEYFIED".!!😢
8:53 You are wrong when you say that Guiding Light is the longest running Television Drama in History. Coronation Street (UK) is. It has been on air since 1960, to the present day. (54 Years). EDIT: Keep reading below to be shown that I am sorter right, but wrong also. :D :)
Jonty Rosenow "Watch Mojo doesn't recognize anything outside of the US." I disagree. 11:21 They had EastEnders (UK) in the memorable mentions. Sons and Daughters and Neighbours was also in the video. Both shows are from Australia.
Patrick Fox It was awarded Longest RUNNING Drama. Meaning, if Guiding Light was still running, it would have taken the title. But, it was cancelled, and even still, it has lived a longer life than Coronation Street. Coronation Street has been running for 55 years, while Guiding Light ran for 57 years.
8:53 #3 - If you had the chance to clone your dead wife, I'm sure you'll clone her into her 16-years-old-version and not into the version of the 60 yo granny, didn't you? :P
Dee's death wasn't the ridiculous story, it was the imposter posing as her 13 years later that was ridiculous. Also why aren't any of Taylor Forrester's (B&B) many resurrections mentioned
I think "Passions" had a storyline where a character dies, goes to hell, meets Hitler, Stalin and other people, and signs a deal with the devil, so that she can come back to life and wreck revenge on her enemies.
I hated that Dallas cliffhanger where Bobby dies & later comes back a year later. nullifying both Dallas & Knots Landing season. still mad about that one.lol!!
Andrew Wolf Thanks for the reminder Season 7 for me was one of the best. where Gary stop Sumner & his allies on Empire Valley by blowing up their underground compound among other things. have those on episodes recorded on VHS. have to buy the dvds.
Nialee Mass I too stop watching Dallas when they made the entire season a dream. returned a few years later to watch the reruns up to season 8 finale when Bobby got killed. I saw the series finale but some parts. not everything.
CmdrSloanne I actually didn't see the end, but I did get caught in the spin off with Gary in California, it was fun for a while, Aby didn't get under my skin with always getting away with it though…lol
In India soap operas are more dramatic and ridiculous than ever they don't even take a single minute to think on there scripts and just let the actors say what they like and they take a simple storyline on a very large occasion with thousands of episodes without even a script So you could imagine how worst soap operas we are having
My great grandmother watched all of the soaps every day. She saw the beginning of the stories. While I don't particularly care fo soaps, it amazes me that she didn't live to see the end of some of these stories and that I probably won't either. Even if I die of old age.
Techincally it was the doctor turned mad scientist that created the clone without Josh's knowledge, as a gift. Josh just had to go with it. The fact that whole storyline was the fallout of the wonderful Annie storyline before her perfect recast, actually made this storyline somehow work. I think long time viewers hated it but everyone I've talked to actually loved it. But that was also around the time of the Melrose Place bombing and Kimberly Shaw's storyline. I think we were getting used to all the crazy soap storylines. Days of Our Lives definitely kept their insanity for a long time in the 90s. It was great! And Twin Peaks had already brought us the Black Lodge. It always goes back to Twin Peaks. Haha.
FUN FACT: In the bible for DALLAS, Bobby was supposed to die in a car accident at the end of the 5-part miniseries and the remainder seasons were suppose to follow Pam dealing with the Ewings on her own, becoming a stronger woman and businesswoman in the process.
I'm a huge fan of All My Children (watched for 20 years) and must say the unabortion story from 2005-2006 should definitely be on here. Not only was it absurd but it spat upon sacred history
The moment they had alien abduction at number ten my mind immediately said, "Then what the hell are the other 9 plotlines?" What's really funny? To realize that "Friends" parody of daytime soap operas and soap opera plotlines wasn't actually a parody.
I honestly don't know how long it officially lasted but watching my mom watch "The Bold and the Beautiful" for a couple years and Liam jumping between Hope and Steffy over and over again.
The #1 slot is definitely what I had in mind for this list but it is this storyline that got me watching this soap opera back in the middle school days. Loved it! Hahahah.
This highlights why American daytime drama is currently in dire straits. The over the top writing, basic production values and hammy acting have all played a big role in this genre dying. Unlike British and Australian soaps (that have done a far better job of keeping both their characters and story lines grounded in reality), US soaps by comparison are so far removed from reality that many come off as cheesy D grade programs that look laughable and feel stale and outdated by today's television standards. Ten years ago, there were nine soaps on the air, Now there's just four. I won't be surprised if none of these are around in a decade from now.
Actually, you mention Aussie soaps, and how they are grounded in reality. In the show "Neighbours", (which appeared in two honorable mentions), they had another storyline where a beloved character called "Harold" disappeared while standing on rocks getting his photo taken, and the waves washed him into the sea (his wife found only his glasses remaining). Years later, they rehired the same actor and had him come back as Harold, who was presumed dead for years. He came back with amnesia and thought that he was a Salvation Army worker. It turned out that he got pulled out of the water by a large boat and he had been living in England for many years.
I've always found over the top storylines in soap operas far more entertaining than the more grounded storylines. Home and Away, for example, kind of bores me because of how predictable and grounded in reality it is most of the time. Days Of Our Lives is so ridiculous, but that's why I find it entertaining.
Get your facts straight, before you trash the Iconic American Daytime Soap opera. The over the top story telling only occurs occasionally and has been a staple of the American Soaps since the 1960s and 1970s when Dark Shadows the first gothic and paranormal fantasy based Soap opera was created and on air during Daytime sparking a new era of storytelling in Television history and showing that in Soap opera storytelling the Skies was the limit for plots and twists and turns and even the outrageous and unnatural or unrealistic could be done within the storytelling of scripted fictional dramas including Soap Operas. American Soaps since have been renowned for featuring a balanced level of real, unreal, unique, original, cliched and even extraordinary stories and characters. The genre has declined over the years but not for that reason. Many reasons why including the upstart of Reality television, the budget for American television shows is stricter than the British or Australian, Casting and staffing on American television costs more as does the production of the Series themselves, Television distribution airs fewer reality television in the U.K and Australia than in the U.S. also allowing for more scripted dramas including comedies, crime, medical, soap operas more leeway in producing, promoting and viewership. Also the networks for American Serials only allow for budgeting and scheduling of limited space and time to produce their programs since the 1990s and 2000s thus American Daytime soap opera shows are filmed indoors primarily with occasional built external sets in studios, while British and Australian Serial Soaps have more relaxed schedules and higher budgets to film on location and outdoors alot and on set designed studio built lots. Allowing for more action and active reality scenes to be played out in storytelling unlike American Daytime soap operas that are set up in indoor spaces to more act out scenarios like domestic drama telling which is where alot of outrageous characters and fantasy storylines and plotlines come from. Also keep in mind half of these outrageous stories and plots also did come at a time when the American Daytime soap was at its peak in budgeting and storytelling and so on during the 1980s and into the 1990s. Plus some Soap operas where purposefully created as fantasy based shows like Dark Shadows, Port Charles, Passions, Dante's Cove, etc. and these shows were expected to have outrageous and unnatural and unrealistic storyplots.
Yes! Marlena's possesion was not only most ridiculous but also the most obnoxiously long plot lines in the shows history. It was only suppose to last 3 month and it took almost a year to complete. It's even worse when the tried to re-introduce it during the Salem stalker plot line.
Wow, I came in here expecting Twin Peaks (cause I love it), but these are waaaaay more ridiculous than any crazy amnesiac eye-patched wife with super strength. Also, I'm surprised you mentioned the "shark jump" from Dallas, but not the finale of the show, were J.R. goes all Jimmy Stewart, wishes he was never born, then gets a magic journey through that alternate reality with the help of a fake angel working for Satan. That's fucking ludicrous.
Special thanks to our users Truthunwinding, tkearns17, Freemantle_uk and dj10041 for submitting the idea on our Suggestion Tool atwww.WatchMojo.com/suggest
ChrissyandPauly So did I! Of all of the crazy storylines they thought Timmy was too outlandish? What about when Kay, Charity and Miguel were stuck in hell with demons and the Bennett house was sucked in? Or how the demonic version of Charity that was in her place for months? How about the whole "who did Sheridan kill as a child?" plot? First they thought it was Martin, then her own mother, and if I'm not mistaken they then thought it was her aunt who SPOILER they all turned out to be alive! There are too many to count but I certainly wouldn't count Timmy as one of these Top 10. Then again Passions could have a Top 10 Countdown to itself.
+Phoenix Layton That whole piece of shit soap Passions, why it ever made it to tv is ridiculous. That show should have been cancelled after it's first week
Lol my grandmother loved these shows… she called them her stories. She started losing track back in like 2004. After she couldn’t remember what was going on she kind of stopped watching
OLTL did that 2x because in 2008 Rex and Bo is sent back to 1968 and Bo is Asa and Rex is Bo and Gigi also travel back to 68 to save Rex. Rex just so happen to be Clint son. I miss OLTL
I was a soap viewer for many years. You can say what you want about the possession storyline on DAYS, but when it was on? It was pure fun. My mother and I thought it was camp and it was fabulous! No harm in that.
i remember as a kid, general hospital had a wedding ambushed by ninjas.
Sting Rey Because WHY NOT?
That show was always dumb. Freeze the town.. huh?
Gh had some laughable storylines, the weather machine was unbblievable but I loved Luke and Laura in it.
What about when they brought back Dr. Drake Ramoray from the dead via brain transplant on Days of Our Lives?
y2a omg i'm watching that episode of friends right now hahaha
Or when they killed almost everyone only for them all to really be alive on an island. I have no idea how this show is still on
+sugarmag78 Lol!! I couldn't help but laugh, lol!!
sugarmag78 it's ridiculous that EXACTLY this Story SAVED Days in 2004-05 lol people love this shit 😂😂
How about his ridiculous fall in the elevator shaft
“I love you Drake!! “
“Yeah ...whatsver!!”
Lol... Days could have easily had taken all the top 10 spots on this list.
1) Marlena's possession
2) Marlena as the serial killer and everyone ending up in that stupid island
3) Kristen, the fake pregnancy and her dopelgangers with the fake teeth
4) Marlena and Kristen trapped in the wine cellar and the Elvis wedding
5) Hope and Princess Gina; that stupid puzzle box
6) Marlena a prisoner of Stefano in the sewers of Paris and the virtual reality goggles
7) Those Dimera twins from outer space
8) Everyone ending up in the haunted/mysterious town in Louisiana
9) Carrie and Mike affair on the flying bed
10) That time when the Days became a teenage soap. They aged all their kids in like a year to become teenagers
juaquino Sounds like i must watch this Series XD
I haven't watched it in years but in its heydays, Days of Our Lives was THE premier daytime soap to watch. The had the most ridiculous but addicting storylines.
OMG! Yes! Carly buried alive! How could I forget that! LOL!
juaquino The time steffeno smoked out the hospital that only had a real effect on his daughter years later.
Passions and Days deserve their own lists.
So Dynasty did the Red Wedding first! :O
Lol. If only it turned out robb and everyone were alive like they did
Tommy gun The only ones I cared to live were the wolves.
Jonas Bjerregaard remember dude me an you are planning to have a wedding soon don't forget
thebootywarrior champion you obviously have no idea how popular jurassic park is with the ladies
Tommy gun u must not be popular with the ladies or the guys with a name like that
I used to watch Passions with my mom every day after school, and Tabitha & Timmy weren't even that crazy, though they caused so many insane things to happen.
Swifty I thought Timmy and Tabitha were the most normal thing about Passions.
WHAT THE FUCK 😂😂😂😂😂
Passion was wild as fuck but we all faithfully watched the shenanigans unfold on that damn show 😂😂😂😂
Oh yeah I forgot about Chad and Whitney being sisters lol
I've watch Bold and Beautiful since like 2009 and they've had dumber things than that (that I've seen):
1. Oliver sleeping with Brooke at Hope's graduation party, him thinking it was Hope and her thinking it was Ridge.
2. Liam and Wyatt coming out of left field just so Bill has kids
3. Hope getting mad that Liam is constantly flip flopping between her and Steffy, then her flip flopping between him and Wyatt, getting pregnant by Wyatt, and losing the baby
4. Steffy riding her motorcycle and losing her and Liam's baby, on the Friday episode before mother's day (lovely), and my favorite:
5. Bill leaving his wife who has severe postpartum depression for her sister, Brooke, who gets pregnant (despite being over 50 years old), and then losing the baby.
Gotta love the Bold and the Beautiful...
***** they really do lol
MrJuly1990ish it's getting real incest-y now. Besides Rick/Maya, Katie/Bill, and Quinn/Deacon most of the couples are somehow related to each other. These families need to go out more. Plus it's the same storylines recycled. I'm counting down the days until a Ridge/Brooke reunion.
I totally forgot about that whole Oliver sleeping with Brooke at the party. The song that was playing in the background still drives me nuts! 😂
+MrJuly1990ish I've always said the only reason Eric gets away with his nastiness is because John McCook is so charming and loveable. He's like Cary Grant- you can't hate him.
The Daddy Yankee song! I still have to laugh about all of this because it was so ridiculous😂😂😂
This soap has always had religious undertones( one of the elements I despised about it). That's why the ludicrous Marlena possession story happened.
The possession of Marlena was bad but the Dimera twins storyline takes the cake for me.
@@kevinpayton2664 Since I commented this there have been some amazing terrible storylines in Days.
Jake and Stefan with dead/undead vivi has been stupid.
The absolute travesty of recent Ben and Ciara
Rolf trying to clone Stefano in Kayla
....Stefano mind chip in Steve
Chad banging Gwen
Sarah kidnapped by Kristen who was acting almost the entire cast ON HER OWN
Mayor Jack
Literally everything involving Eve
Xander/Victor baby swap
Every dead person ever, being alive again
Hope leaving town to cover up her not staying on the cast and never being seen again
Last week Rafe was talking to a stuffed bear
Nicole/Xander and Sammi/Lucas blackmail battle
Drug Mule Gwen
Most of this 2020/21
The writers have gone crazy go nuts with this soap and I'm not sure how I feel about it anymore.
Also now I despise Ciara and Theo and they were cool characters before.
@@Lasukie Days is still a good show but like a lot of other shows their stories don't make sense.
I love a good "It was just a dream."
That is the quickest way for your viewers/readers to throw your book/remote in the corner and walk off.
I did enjoy how Newhart, and Married with Children did "It was just a dream" in their comedies.
I wish i was an American soap writer.
They must be on so many drugs.
I love how this starts with an alien abduction xD
Tells a lot
A witch gave birth to a weird monster in "Passions" and you picked the Timmy character? Haha! Seriously, though, that soap opera was AWESOMELY-RIDICULOUS!!! There should be a top 10 specifically for "Passions."
A more accurate title would be 'top ten stupid things soap operas did when ratings were down and ideas were desperate.'
Reiden Lightman Isn’t that every episode in today’s current climate?
How about Maureen dying in Guiding Light?
Apparently, I need to watch more soap operas.
Juan Nunez nope
You only get 4 to choose from now :(
Days of Our Lives - Dr Drake Ramory returns as Jessica Lockhart!!!!
*face palm* Dumb Friends joke. We get it. That wasn't real Days. Duh. Enough already!
I liked how awkward their relationship/rivalry
was after it was revealed.
@@hx3trappedYeah totally agree. When Melissa died the series really ended. It just limped along for a bit until it died.
How is that not on here?"
Lo and behold.
RyvenSorane I’ll say this, Bob Newhart did it better.
This video needs a part 2. They were all so laughably bad that I need to know more lol
The last Two minutes had me rolling!
Do you remember when soaps were simply normal people sitting , talking, and drinking coffee?
This is actually a pretty good topic!
That story line where Clint goes back to the old west town was pure gold! I was just a child and I loved it. I was so into it that summer.
"Passions is on! Timmy fell down a well and if you make me bloody miss it, I'll..." LOL
so when Timmy fell down the well was he rescued by Lassie. Oh shit that's a different show.
Why did they time travel? I could understand a psychotic break or dream or something.
you jerks, Timmy was the best thing on Passions, besides McKenzie Westmore, of course, ha!
Thanks guys but I was actually referring to Sheridan (Mckenzie Westmore). Did she go tona different soap?
I dont believe so... i know she hosts face off on SyFy, because her dad is like a super famous make-up artist but i think thats really all she has done
Cherub200298 The actress that played Teresa was on a reality show about former soap actresses trying to start a production company. I think it was on Pop.
Could you guys make a list of the Top 10 BEST soap opera story plot lines?
+Amelia Morgan I agree and maybe the most shocking moments in soap opera plots like the Hospital Rape Storyline in OLTL in 1994? Or the top 10 soap opera villains (which if you do better have Todd Manning on there!)
Rest in peace Timmy
But these plots make these sopies so much more entertaining. Although, the people who live in these towns should really learn self defense because someone is always getting kidnapped.
Viki going to heaven and Eterna were pretty wild too. OLTL in the 80’s really took some daring risks.
My Grandma LOVED Dynasty, General Hospital, Dallas, One Life To Live, Days Of Our Lives, Fantasy Island & Love Boat.
I miss her....
People love to mock soaps, and yet no one talks about some of the groundbreaking storylines they did.
All My Children: The First Legal Abortion in television history
The Bold and the Beautiful: Stephanie's abusive childhood
General Hospital: BJ's Heart and Stone dying of AIDS
Guiding Light: Roger dying of ALS
One Life to Live: Marty's Gang rape
The Young and the Restless: Katherine's Face Lift
The ALS story was actually on OLTL.
Top 10 Iconic Cheeses... don't try to change the subject now
CHEEEEEEEEEEEESE
Thales Monteiro lol.
Haha I had to take a screenshot to keep laughing later
Cecilia Mayora you know that scene from "face off" when nic cage talks with pauses "Take his face... off"?!
i'm like that for hours now with "Iconic.... cheeses"
Thales Monteiro that's so random haha however I can't stop thinking about it now 😅
God I'm so happy my parents were into Telemundo's Telenovelas when I was a kid... And that I had my own TV to play Nintendo on...
Matthew Cassidy Why do they always get amnesia?
nobody knows.
Passion needs to have it's own top ten most ridiculous plotlines. Even though the whole show was a crazy mess. I still watched it, and I'm rewatching it now.
I assume the 'Days of our Lives' writers might've got the inspiration on the demonic possession storyline from 'The Exorcist'.
Or the panther idea from long time NBC stalwart “Manimal”.
Hahaha I knew Deidre would be on here! Marlenas possession was hilarious!
Oh man, I remember the "Marlena Possessed by the Devil" storyline. That freaked me out as a little kid. The show's gotten a lot worse in recent years, though.
no it hasn't it's the same it has always been.
Hikari Takahashi I completely agree it’s so sad to see how truly horrible it’s become 😔
Now they are doing that story again with Marlena lmao
The Moldavian Massacre was a fantastic season finale. It was the aftermath that sucked big time, and I agree it ruined the show.
It didnt ruin the show. It was no more absurd than any other show of the time
YOU ARE MY PASSION FOR LIFE
No Hispanic soap operas XD

Esteban Bottini You did!
Esteban Bottini YOU FURGOT
THE UNITED STATES KINGDOM OF HUMAN BRAZIL PROVINCES AND NORTHERN ROCK BAND OF BROTHERS IN ARMS ABOUT THE PHILIPPINES FEDERATION OF AMERICA and MARS
I tried to watch a soap opera but there were so many storylines I had no idea what was going on.
That was the most fun we had watching that film, I can't believe someone actually wrote stuff like this for their shows
I liked the Ice Princess storyline!
I used to literally SPRINT from the school bus trying to watch it, yes, it was great. GH was at its best in those days.
“Janet from another planet”
I remember that storyline. Janet dumped the dog in the back of a truck. I think she drugged it. Every now and then, we would see the dog on his travels back to Pine Valley. It took about a year. On the day Janet was to marry Trevor, the dog showed up at the church with the pill bottle in his mouth.....
Now, THATS good soap opera writing! Good luck finding that anymore. You could say soap opera writing has become too "DISNEYFIED".!!😢
Having never seen ANY of those shows, that was pretty entertaining. Thanks WatchMojo.
8:53 You are wrong when you say that Guiding Light is the longest running Television Drama in History. Coronation Street (UK) is. It has been on air since 1960, to the present day. (54 Years).
EDIT: Keep reading below to be shown that I am sorter right, but wrong also. :D :)

"Watch Mojo doesn't recognize anything outside of the US."
I disagree. 11:21 They had EastEnders (UK) in the memorable mentions. Sons and Daughters and Neighbours was also in the video. Both shows are from Australia.
Patrick Fox Guiding Light ran from 1952 to 2009. Meaning, it ran for 57 years. So, Guiding Light still holds the title.

You are spot on... My mistake. I over-looked Running, lol :D :)
Oh wow... how cool and ridicolous some soaps were.... Love them
"Punching out the code" Just smacks the shit of a keyboard.
8:53 #3 - If you had the chance to clone your dead wife, I'm sure you'll clone her into her 16-years-old-version and not into the version of the 60 yo granny, didn't you? :P
I thought there was nothing more ridiculous than the dream season but I was so wrong !
Reva jumping through paintings back in time is far more ridiculous than the clone storyline!
CmdrSloanne actually Bobby was srill dead in Knot's Landing the did not want to erase that season.
Andrew Wolf
Thanks for the reminder Season 7 for me was one of the best. where Gary stop Sumner & his allies on Empire Valley by blowing up their underground compound among other things. have those on episodes recorded on VHS. have to buy the dvds.
CmdrSloanne I did abandon the show at that time… I was a child and was like: how could they do that to us????
Nialee Mass
I too stop watching Dallas when they made the entire season a dream. returned a few years later to watch the reruns up to season 8 finale when Bobby got killed. I saw the series finale but some parts. not everything.
CmdrSloanne I actually didn't see the end, but I did get caught in the spin off with Gary in California, it was fun for a while, Aby didn't get under my skin with always getting away with it though…lol
In India soap operas are more dramatic and ridiculous than ever they don't even take a single minute to think on there scripts and just let the actors say what they like and they take a simple storyline on a very large occasion with thousands of episodes without even a script
So you could imagine how worst soap operas we are having
I love soap operas, daytime or primetime! I would love a top 10 daytime soap opera couples or characters or storylines!
My great grandmother watched all of the soaps every day. She saw the beginning of the stories. While I don't particularly care fo soaps, it amazes me that she didn't live to see the end of some of these stories and that I probably won't either. Even if I die of old age.
Top 10 long running storylines on Tv. Could that be a suggestion for the future?
Haha.
Everytime Victor randomly leaves on the young and the restless
FUN FACT: In the bible for DALLAS, Bobby was supposed to die in a car accident at the end of the 5-part miniseries and the remainder seasons were suppose to follow Pam dealing with the Ewings on her own, becoming a stronger woman and businesswoman in the process.
All these sound like things people do when they play The Sims.
Wow. This list was so hilarious! I can't believe these actually happened.
I loved ‘Timmy’..doll/familiar! The whole soap of Passions was meant to be tongue in cheek and heavily laden with magic. Pretty funny stuff.
You nailed it with #1.
I'm a huge fan of All My Children (watched for 20 years) and must say the unabortion story from 2005-2006 should definitely be on here. Not only was it absurd but it spat upon sacred history
Definitely. Such a landmark storyline.
The moment they had alien abduction at number ten my mind immediately said, "Then what the hell are the other 9 plotlines?" What's really funny? To realize that "Friends" parody of daytime soap operas and soap opera plotlines wasn't actually a parody.
Soap Opera storylines that lasted to long. My pick is the who are the twins baby dadies during the last year of One Life to Live.
Also on that list, any storyline from Passions.
Riley Ann Barnitz u watch soap opera"s holy shit what are u 50 ?
I honestly don't know how long it officially lasted but watching my mom watch "The Bold and the Beautiful" for a couple years and Liam jumping between Hope and Steffy over and over again.
These are actually awesome! Hilariously over the top awesome!
Um...Marlena's possession was a little far fetched but as she levitated so did the ratings...
My mom used to tell me that General Hospital did Jaws & King Kong ripoffs
Ya know you could do an entire list of silly stories from Days of Our Lives
How does Bold and the Beautiful not make this list!
Marlina and DOOL was off the chain.
WatchMojo.com I'm sorry but ALL soap operas have stupid weird ass plotlines.
Some are just more stupid then others.
I looooooooved Timmy in passions
I think that they're wrong about Timmy. I loved him and Tabitha! Those 2 along with Sheridan and Luis were the only reason why I watched Passions.
Yeah, and Passions fucked up that storyline. I still don't know why. 🤬
1:26 thats the friggin gravitron, they have it at the county fair every year.
I LOVED Passions! I was so bitter when it ended.
Lol my grandmother loved these shows… she called them her stories. She started losing track back in like 2004. After she couldn’t remember what was going on she kind of stopped watching
Marlena’s possession gained Day’s high school and college age viewers.
I loved that storyline!!!
You should include foreign Soap-Operas/Telenovelas next time, that yes would be a interesting list to watch.

Tony Geary can make any storyline exciting ❤
OLTL did that 2x because in 2008 Rex and Bo is sent back to 1968 and Bo is Asa and Rex is Bo and Gigi also travel back to 68 to save Rex. Rex just so happen to be Clint son. I miss OLTL
This just makes UK shows look a lot better!
