In a way, this perfectly captures the behaviour of insecure people (or machines) like Wheatley. Assuming everyone is laughing at them behind their back, and then lashing out indiscriminately as soon as they get a taste of power
Fun Fact, when Wheatly speaks Spanish he says "estas usando este software de traduccion de forma incorrecta. por favor, consulta el manual" which is "you are using this translation software incorrectly. please consult the manual" in English.
Chell: "Oh, she's done you again!" GLaDOS: I mean...you’re an odd looking fella. You know I know that...but you also don't like spending money. On Valentine’s day, what are you happier with: the fact that no girls like you enough or are you happy because you don’t have to spend money on a card for anyone? **Chell dies from laughter** GLaDOS: Don't laugh, you're still fat.
“You’re the moron they built to make me an idiot!” is one of my favorite lines out of any book, movie or game. The script for this whole series was absolutely brilliant.
Jeremiah Duckworth if she was nice, you wouldn't do this to her! Saying that you're a horrible person, laughing because you're adopted, and trying to kill you directly on several occasions.
5:26 the way Wheatley just shakes his head in denial, right before he throws/hits GLaDOS. You can even see how angry he is, even in a mere second. The little details just show so much. I miss this game though. It was truly amazing.
"Otherwise I'm afraid you're about to become the immediate _past_ president of the Being Alive Club." Best euphemism for murder ever. "I suppose we could just sit in this room and glare at each other until somebody drops dead...but I have a better idea." Best pick-up line ever.
I fucking love Valve. There's so much REAL tension in this whole scene, you know that it can't be the end of the game yet, but you don't know what's going to happen. Then at 3:42, when the music starts to change and he starts laughing you're like,"Ohhhhhhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiiiiit". I remember playing through just the chapter before this so many times just to see this all happen. Also the major change in the mood and aesthetic after this scene. Also almost escaping through the lift, then being dragged back. Also the amazing and witty dialogue. Also the some-what-comical-yet-still-serious feel of the game. I love Valve so damn much.
I completely agree!! I fucking love Valve and the feeeling of their games, is just so raw and immersive! And its such a shame that we're probably not getting a other Portal game because for some reason Valve is terrified of the number 3??
Lestrange Actually, I think it's a good thing that they didn't. Considering how extended sequels tend to go, and the fact that there's not much more they can do in the Portal story, it's probably best to leave it at 2. At least, that's how I feel.
I felt sorry for GLaDOS too. If I were trapped in Aperture I would probably panic for a few minutes then I would realize I don't want to leave the facility and go to the test chambers.
They could at least TURN OFF the two cores before doing the transfer. Doing it like it was done in this video is essentially like swapping out a computer's hard drive WHILE THE COMPUTER IS STILL RUNNING.
At 4:03,I started getting pretty creeped out because the lights started getting red, and when Wheatley started fighting with GLaDOS, I said: "This is getting freaking deep."
3:28 can we talk about how impressive it is that they juggled those companion cubes with in game physics and not an animation? That feels like a massive accomplishment
What would be interesting in a Portal 3 is if the body itself became sentient and you had to have both GlaDos and Wheatley help you eventually destroy it.
This scene always gives me chills, I stand with my opinion that Portal 2 is one of the best games of all time. The Music, the Voice Acting, Humor, and the Plot are some of the best in recent times. Also, I want Portal 3, ;--; plz valve.
It certainly is one of the best games, however it completely fails to reproduce the cold atmosphere of uncertainty of the first game. Mainly because you can pull a stunt like Portal 1 only once before the effect wears off. I guess VALVe had no other option than going for the humor path in the 2nd game. But the moments which leave the biggest impressions on us are always going to be serious ones like that betrayal scene
Its hands down why I feel dota2 has infinitely more character than LoL. So many crazy voicelines and voice acting, so many references like Nietsche, Sun Tsu, Marx etc
The reason it sounded like that is because her synthetic voice is not coming from her core, as it was with Wheatley, but the intercom systems, because she was the central Core at the time. Think of it like ripping out your throat while screaming no. You'll make sounds way outside your vocal range and ability.
except for the fact that he was built to be a moron, and was taunted into doing what he did next, I don't think you're as smart as you're trying to be.
I mean there was a bit of foreshadowing that he’s already planning something even before being plugged in. When the door that he was supposed to be hacking for 10 minutes “opened without an announcement”
I kind of like how, at this point, it's still early enough that Wheatley says "Uh-oh" right at the end when Chell falls; I suppose it's possible he's just reacting to the loss of a test subject, but... it feels like there is genuine concern in his voice, plus he hadn't actually mentioned testing yet
yeah but think about what she put Chell through. Hearing that scream and then seeing Wheatley there would go from terrifying to the most fucking satisfying thing ever in about 5 seconds

During my first experience with this game, I NEVER saw this twist coming. Even the "laughter turning maniacal" subtitle didn't faze me. I thought it was just a quick gag and figured Wheatley would just clear his throat and be like "Sorry 'bout that," and carry on like normal. Then the rest of the scene played out. Total shock and borderline heartbreak. Took me a good couple of minutes before I could get going again once the next part started. Well done, Valve.
Holy shit I just noticed, Is it just me or at 3:55 does wheatley's eyes turn from blue to a white dot when he turns around and he's laughing like a maniac? It's probably not a big deal but I think it's cool that they added that

Even 11 years later this entire scene, the voiceacting alone sends shivers down my spine. You can tell that they didnt write this as a video game, they wrote it as a general immersive story. Wheatly and Glados are not just two NPCs saying their lines to advance the story. You can feel Wheatly getting overwhelmed. Finally he is powerful. He always felt mistreated because yea, he is designed to be a moron so cores and others ended up disliking him because of it. Slowly but surely building and growing resentment for everything until the one he hoped would become his friends would be tossed by him into the pit because at that point, this far into the future, he developed trustissues on its own. Chell wasnt just nice and wanted to work together, nah, she used Wheatly. No other way to think about it for him at this point. And then him interacting with Glados? Boy thats a whole new story. At first he can finally take over. He is happy about it, slowly realizing that the one he feared the most is now at his mercy. And so he taunts and degrades her into a small potato battery. Only for it to be revealed what he truly was. Suddenly he is faced with the truth. Others stopped talking to him because it was just the way he was created. Because he was stupid. Denial flashing into his mind, he lashes out at Glados and in turn Chell. Only to later attempt to make something of his own. Which of course fails but it isnt his fault that it does, but his designers. And by the end as realization hits, he gets desperate. He doesnt want to give in and ask for help. He wants to prove that he is capable, that he doesnt need Chell or Glados, making his end the most tragic even with Carolines protocol within Glados being erased. He tells Chell to let go so he can fix his mistakes and save the facility which he was activly destroying due to his poor impulse control, not realizing that all this was his fault yet again. And only once its too late, and Glados had enough, no longer wanting to deal with his problems, does he ask for help. Too little however too late.
I cannot but agree with you 100%. The entire scene and conversation is perfectly crafted and timed! And the background music elevates the experience even further
I feel bad for Wheatley. He has his own personality and strengths just like Glados, but others make fun of him because of programming that he can do nothing about.

I love the passion in GLaDOS' voice when she yells "YES YOU ARE! You're the moron they created to make me an idiot!" I love good voice acting. As a potato she has no way to use 'body language', but just her VA's acting gets the emotions across just as well. It's really impressive.
Me at the dentist: Wait what if this hurts? What if this really hurts? Dentist: Oh it will, believe me it will Me: Wait exactly how painful is it-AGGGHHHHHHH
Wow, I remember playing portal 2 as my first ever ps3 game and I was completely blown away by the plot twists, music and story, and this scene is soooo cool
Honestly still one of my favorite betrayals, even if it rips my heart out. It's just executed so brilliantly. The hopeful music quickly turning to menacing as his friendly laughter shifts to villainous. The panels flipping in the background as if the facility itself was laughing with him. God, it's so good.
is that like... robot rape? they both needed to consent being transferred. glados said no. she was SCARED TO DEATH when the transfer happened and he "took her body" and he came out of it feeling all high and mighty while glados was damaged and defeated inside.
GUILLE832 im pretty sure I mentioned she was a robot. How did I make a big deal out of it? I barely even remembered making this comment. It was a question
Wheatley is my favorite because he reminds me of me, not smart all the time but brings smiles or frowns to mostly everyone when he needs to, also i like bad guys more than good guys.
one thing that doesn’t get enough recognition is the animation work for all the ‘Panels’ seen throughout the game. 2:56 look at them all go limp, reboot and recalibrate as the main control core gets replaced, such a nice detail
This scene made the entire second half of the game feel so sad. You spend the whole first half of this game being this little guy's friend, then just when it feels like youve achieved victory he turns on you and starts acting irrational. And then you're all alone again and when you've almost forgotten about him you have to return to the top and face what your only friend has become and save all three of you from him... Or so you thought because you don't even get to save him really :(
Wheatley: "All you've ever done is boss me around."
Chell: Hasn't even talked to Wheatley.

I love the passion in GLaDOS' voice when she yells "YES YOU ARE! You're the moron they created to make me an idiot!" I love good voice acting. As a potato she has no way to use 'body language', but just her VA's acting gets the emotions across just as well. It's really impressive.
Wheatley's new name: *WHEaTLEY*
WheatOS...
No wait that sounds like a brand of cereal.

British Hammer if I ever become a cereal pioneer can I use that?
@@britishhammer5696 part of a complete breakfast
WHEaTDOS
it makes sense that his name remained normal, since it's not an achronim, unlike GLaDoS
This is amazing. The voice acting is A+! Thank you for uploading this!
I love how cinematic this game is withought chucking long cutscenes at you. Easily one of my favorite games ever
Glados’s actor is way too good. Like she is SO good at conveying emotions like pain and anger while managing to still sound “robotic”. Amazing.
2:47 i want glados's scream for a ringtone or something
wow, you are fucked up. lol
***** wouldn't you agree? Or do you too enjoy the sound of a robot's agony?
and the world seems a little less irrational. Thank you
Wow I was just kidding
John Hayes nigga you cray! haha
Wheatly would be a good politician....
2:53 "2319! WE'VE GOT A 2319!"
monsters inc reference for the win
The amazing music is always overshadowed by the incredible dialogue.
Me at the dentist: Wait what if this hurts? What if this really hurts?
Dentist: Oh it will, believe me it will
Me: Wait exactly how painful is it-AGGGHHHHHHH
Wow, I remember playing portal 2 as my first ever ps3 game and I was completely blown away by the plot twists, music and story, and this scene is soooo cool
Honestly still one of my favorite betrayals, even if it rips my heart out.
It's just executed so brilliantly. The hopeful music quickly turning to menacing as his friendly laughter shifts to villainous. The panels flipping in the background as if the facility itself was laughing with him. God, it's so good.
I feel bad for GLaDOS....
+Dolphinzz ikr
+Lord Gabe
When she gets put in a potato? yeah.
+Lord Gabe well you made her
i feel bad for wheatly because he was desigened to be a moron and glados shuves it in his face as he denies it#cant spell
I
0:37 who shit themselves first time they played this and this happened
Cool Christian me
is that like... robot rape?
they both needed to consent being transferred. glados said no. she was SCARED TO DEATH when the transfer happened and he "took her body" and he came out of it feeling all high and mighty while glados was damaged and defeated inside.
+Gilen Beilschmidt Thats cuz GLaDOS in her "past life" as caroline didn't want to become GLaDOS she was forced to become GLaDOS by her husband John.
+Elizabeth Panikar John? You mean Cave
+Elizabeth Panikar Not husband associate
+Gilen Beilschmidt She´s a robot. Please don´t make a big deal out of this.
GUILLE832 im pretty sure I mentioned she was a robot. How did I make a big deal out of it? I barely even remembered making this comment. It was a question
I literally cried while I played this part and WHY WEATELY WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved weately
sounded like GlaDOs was singing...somewhere in some part..
I know what you mean xD The autotune is so heavy
Oh the part where the hands are getting his head?
Is it odd that tears sting my eyes when GLaDOS starts screaming?
No.
That means you care about her, like I do.
Wheatley is my favorite because he reminds me of me, not smart all the time but brings smiles or frowns to mostly everyone when he needs to, also i like bad guys more than good guys.
First time I played this and he started laughing evilly, I was all like "Wheatley? Buddy?!"
I love how the music builds when Wheatley starts laughing
you know, its really impressive how quickly Stephen Merchant can switch from being goofy, happy Wheatley to out-of-control, terrifying Wheatley
0:11 when you trap your minecraft enemy in the classic iron door trap and they're in full enchanted netherite and have an elytra on them
Wheatley is by far the best video game betrayal/villain. Also that scream haunts the halls of aperture. Probably.
I can’t stop thinking about how glados’s body looks like a bound woman
"and don't think I'm not onto you too lady"
chell: ...
I love how perfect the music aligns with Wheatley starting to laugh maniacally.
Stephen Merchant is a fucking legend for this role. So much nuance in every line. It's one of the best voice performances in any video game.
one thing that doesn’t get enough recognition is the animation work for all the ‘Panels’ seen throughout the game.
Or so you thought because you don't even get to save him really :(
It's the most powerful scene in the game - the execution and pacing is just superb
not to mention all the stuff you realize about G.L.A.D.OS
It's POTaTOS
it was that moment that she knew she fuck up
I like how when u see Wheatley again he's like: Hello!.
I just love it! 😂👏💖
That "Ha Ha" after the being alive club sentence is spectacular.
I knew i was screwed when Wheatley stopped the elevator and started to pull it down...
And also when he started to laugh like insane :,D
Good grief! I know this game by fame, never played it. I didn't know it was so dark and creepy, I have to play it!!
