Also, I think there is a tendency to like the one you have if you haven't had a chance to test them on your rig! That may explain some of the comments here.
It seemed to me that v2 might have worked better with amps that aren't already mid-scooped. Aside from the V1.7 having a lower center frequency for its Tone control, I think you could get them to sound more or less the same with proper EQ going into one or both of them.
@@kochjb32 I'm finding the same. I bought a V2.0 first, loved it, but recognised that it has a LOT of low end (which cannot be removed by increasing the tone/high end). Then I bought a V1.4, thought that was great (less low end, brighter, more lively top end/harmonics). However, the V1.4 is not capable of providing the chunky fat low end of the V2.0, the V1.4 tends to be a little harsh. Today i fitted my board with a voodoo labs pedal power mondo and it is the best investment i have made in a long time, having fully isolated my pedals under you guys recommendation has made an absolute world of difference and has completely shown me the way, everything works better and sounds harmonious rather than fighting against eachother and it is truly eye opening. I have even started using my marshall again which i thought i truly hated but i had definitely over looked power for far too long because everything sounds ten times better so thank you so much!
No idea if just a coincidence-I posted a comment just the other day on an older vid asking you guys about impedance and buffers, and here we are. Thanks!
This week I bought 2 katana 100 mkii’s. I’ve been using the stereo expand link option on them with an OCD and t-Rex moller 2 in front. Sold the helix LT and power cab and bought the whole lot for half of what I got. The sounds I’m getting are infinitely better with the twist of a knob. And I still have €700 left over for more pedals. 😀
These gentlemen have definitely had their wheaties this morning they are sounding stellar in all phases of chord progressions...all listeners in agreement say aye..! 🎶
Cheers chaps, nice crunchy episode there. Love a strat and an OCD for fat dynamic rhythm tones, reminds me of cream in coffee, disguises the flavour a bit but pleasantly luxurious. "We could do that all day with different guitars and more overdrive and all the rest of it" ......mmmm.....yes, yes you could. :)
Thanks so much for the episode guys. I actually bought an OCD a while back based on some of your older vids, and wound up with a new V2. The entire time I played it I was thinking, "Man the is waaaay more scooped than on the videos. So much so i have been running a tube screamer into the front to get the mids. They are just not there otherwise. time to find an older one!
I really enjoyed this. I always hear this whole "this ones better than that one" and it was cool to see that it's not better but just different. Well done chaps.
Hi Dan € Mick, Excellent Show 👍👍👍. I have to say I have the V 1.7 OCD and it is Absolutely Brilliant, one Pedal that will Never Leave my Board! I have ordered the OCD Germanium simply for the fact that I LOVE the tone and hearing it Stacked, Wow! Thank you Both, Take care.♥️♥️♥️👍. Melbourne, Australia.
I totally changed my philosophy in that I used 2 channel amps for decades, one channel clean/ish the other for solos, the eg Boogie DC5,Blackstar & DSL Marshall’s, Fenders & Vox’s, the Boogie being the best. However now I have a V2 OCD for solos, a tube screamer for crunch in addition to reverb, delay & chorus and just the amp for clean & it’s opened up a whole new world. I can take my board everywhere and quickly achieve all the sounds I want, almost regardless of the amps used, I should add I use a stereo set up. Thanks to Dan & Mick for the inspiration/ knowledge👍👍👍
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm a happy OCD v1.7 owner, but of course I want to know what the v2 and Ge models offer. Perfect comparison video that lets me make an informed decision.
All those OCD pedals give that classic rock guitar sound so familiar to millions. I'm not a fan of those sounds cause I guess I've heard them too much in my life. But I DO THINK the two of you should start a macrame/knitting channel still. I think the both of you would be wonderful at it.
Funny story, I bought the OCD after your first vid where you covered it a couple/few years ago. Got it home, played it, and said ‘what the hell Dan and Mick, this sounds nothing like you’re review!’ Then looked at the model number....v2. Personally, I love the v2 sound - pushes my amps a little harder, compresses the preamps a little more, but really liked this comparison and the differences. Now I understand I was really looking for a v1.7... CASE SOLVED! 😁
I completely agree with some of the stacking comments like the soul food one. My OCD is really worth it's board space as its not only great on its own but it behaves really well when playing with other pedals (and with the guitar volume pot) Love the show as ever.
What a fun comparison! My 1st and only OCD so far is the V2, and I've wondered how it differs from the V1.7. Might be fun to pick up a 1.7 and/or a Ge version someday, but this confirmed for me that the V2 is closest to the sound that I wanted.
Cloak and poke? Love you guys. I had the first version of the OCD. Not long after buying that came Mike's second version. Sold a mate first version, bought second. Thought version one sounded better (by the slightest of margins - still haunts me). Then out came version three. Mike generously shipped parts to upgrade version two to version three. Box arrived. Opened box, looked blankly at contents inside. Closed box. Never opened box again. OCD. Beautiful - moved on. OCD OCD OCD Love you guys.
I had you playing in the background while I was looking at Twitter, until at 42:40 when I thought "oh my goodness what's he doing, that sounds amazing". Great moment Mick. (Dan helped of course). Good show as always.
i was eating lunch at work with my headphones on, not looking at my phone, and when that started i had to put my lunch down and pick my phone up to see what was going on
I’ve got the GE version and it’s awesome. On low gain, it’s chimney and trebly, yet thick. With more gain, it has an almost fuzz like quality, reminds me of the White Stripes early stuff. Easy to get that sound w this pedal.
This explains so much to me. I had an OCD v2 that I never could bond with, it seemed to always have a harshness that I couldn't dial out. Pulled it off my board after a year of trying to love it. It was finally replaced with a D&M Drive that got me much closer to what I was hunting. Maybe an OCD v1.7 might be more of what I was hearing in my head
My OCD was built in early 2007. Above the date is written, Rev.3, I think. The writing is hard to make out. But I ALWAYS feed the OCD 18 volts. It's better and more dynamic. Recently, I've put a Greer Amps Lightspeed Organic Overdrive after it. I find that pedal "tames" and warms the OCD.
I'm really getting good at this now, my mentors.. ;-) I'm shouting at the screen my findings as I hear them before you both tell us.. My ears have been trained Ha Ha !!
Loved this, and so timely! I just spent the last few months spinning in circles over which OCD I wanted to buy.... and I actually bought a v 1.1 just recently. It will arrive soon and I'm really excited. I'm thinking that because the 1.7 is so much cheaper I might buy one of those too and cork-sniff my way into deciding which one I like best... on Tuesdays!
You gotta try an OCD into a Blues Driver (Keeley Preferred) set for clean vol boost....been my go-to stack for past few years. They just work beautifully together
One thing I love about the OCD is that it still sounds awesome at bedroom levels. Some pedals really require the amp to be working to be useful, but with the OCD you still get plenty of beefyness and dynamics with the amp turned down. It's an awesome bedroom overdrive
I leave the OCD V2 on my board with the buffer on. That way it takes care of my long leads, etc. Sounds great. The V2 is scooped, but that works great for me because I like the natural scoop in my blackface Fenders. I don't want to "correct" that with a mid hump. I wish every pedal gave you the option to choose buffering on or off the way the OCD does.
Another thing about the V2.0 with buffer on, is that it cured a horrendously loud pop when I first turn on my Big Muff Pi (Tone/Wicker). The OCD runs into the BMP, usually either one in use; very angry when both on! The popping from the BMP occured even with (Boss) buffered pedals either side. The o/p impedance of the V2.0 (10k) is higher than Boss (1k) so maybe that has something to do with it. I also like a scooped sound, I have a Boss GE-7 set to mild scoop, it lets the 6.4kz (Presence) shine through on a Strat. BTW I also have black face Fender.
You guys have the best jobs in the world and your good at it too. Just like to say thank you both for keeping the guitar exciting and helping me in finding great pedals and matching them up with others for a good tone....so yeah cheers guys....loving it...
Got the Joyo Ultimate Drive for 35 euros, it's suposed to be a clon of the OCD, it sounds very very similar to my ears, just an economical option for those who don't want to spend a lot on another pedal..... greetings from Mallorca ;)
I know this episode was filmed some time before the internet but I have to mention this: I'd hope to hear the really low drive settings too just to hear how the pedal sounds right on the verge of breakup. That's usually my overdrive pedal settings anyway. Otherwise, great stuff!
I got an OCD thrown in when a bought an amp. Shortly afterwards the v2 came out and the shop let me swap it. After about a week I came back and retrieved the original (a v.1.7). To me the v2 removes all the lovely grittiness an OCD does so well, like it fills in all the frequencies or something. Almost like its a computer model of an OCD.
Excellent description. There's too much fizz / brightness in the V2. I'm holding onto my v1.4 for sure. You use the LP or HP setting more often? I've used the LP almost exclusively. Humbuckers and Single Coils
Agreed on its sound across the gain sweep. I've always found the OCD to be a fine "swiss army knife" OD. Those that I've had have been adept at anything from a light push on the amp to searing smooth distortion. I could even get a little wooly fuzz from them. It would be my deserted island OD. There's a pedal that I like better than OCD for each gain range, but none I've found can score B+/A- for everything.
Stacking the v1 and v2 at low gains give some pretty great tones. I perceive the v2 as having more bass and treble but maybe that's due to the "mid scoop". Haven't run them in parallel yet. That's next up in my journey. Great show gentleman, I've been waiting a long time for this one.
I own an OCD v1.7 thanks to you,I dont regret it, it's fantastic. I fact all the pedals I bought because of you are fantastics. Tanks you for this amazing show
I have an ocd v. 1.4 with one mythical germanium diode in it, D4, that I was running off of fulltone's "quiet" 9v power supply. I never was ecstatic with the way the fulltone power supply really introduced a ton of noise. I put the pedal on a voodoo labs dingbat tiny because it's so nice to travel with. It's powered by a truetone onespot pro with 9, 12 and 18v ports. Now I absolutely love the ocd v. 1.4 at 9 and 18volts. The ocd is dead silent and it does everything that we love the ocd for.
Me too. I love knowing the engineering is top quality and if Mike can't find a part, he'll have it made to the highest specs. All for reasonable prices.
I’m just an at home hobby player on a budget, but I will say that of all the different overdrive pedals I’ve experimented with, my absolute favorite is my Joyo Ultimate Drive (OCD Clone). It definitely is THE most versatile drive I own! What else is cool is how it well cleans up with the guitar’s volume control. Thanks for sharing guys! ✌🏻🎸🎼
Interesting to see Dan and Mick review all the different OCD’s in one overview and reflect. The OCD is a classic sound. When I first immersed myself in pedal world years ago (thanks in large part to TPS), set out to research and choose an Overdrive/Distortion and build my own pedalboard, I exhibited my own OCD by trying hundred’s of pedals. More than 300 of them actually. I recorded samples of all of them, put them into Logic so I could compare them. I definitely liked the OCD. However, I ended up choosing two others: Blackstone Appliances’ Mosfet Overdrive (BAMO), and the Hudson Broadcast. Of course I keep my hand in and listen to, try and record all of the new ones that come out, but I haven’t had any reason to reconsider.Yet...
@@ThatPedalShow Right! I almost bought an OCD because of Mick's rec and Andy Martin's and Nick's vids. Everyone should own a Hudson pedal - even the new version or the Sidecar. Killers!
Thinking about getting the V2, it's easiest to come by and doesn't boost the mids like so many of my pedals do (TS9, Riot etc.). My quite Marshall-y Suhr Badger amp already has loads of mids. I can always step on the TS9 for a mids bump... Also the highs seem to tame nicely when needed with the pedal's tone pot. Cheers!
Tone junkies channel has a great documentary on the ocd evolution. I have a 1.7 and it never leaves my board. Wanna get the GE. It’s supposedly more like the original ocd. Awesome video nevertheless today.
I got the OCD V2 after watching one of your past shows (I think you were comparing overdrives into popular amps) My favourite pedal for ‘fat’ rhythm tones and i hit the front with either a soul food or a mini tube screamer for solos. Yet it also cleans up like a dream if i want it to. Love it.
V2 was the best and the Germ was the worst, everything before the v2 had messed up EQ, you'll always get people who say the earlier versions were better but generally for most guitars and amps the V2 is your best bet. All will rocket in price and be sought after now they don't make them anymore anyway so whichever one you have your blessed to have it.
It's all a matter of opinion. I like the germanium the best and the 1.7 after that. I have both (I like the 1.7 into overdriven amp and Ge into clean amp). 2.0 is the worst to my ears.
I love my V1.2 but I also like my 1.4. I recently bought the GE. I’d really like to use it in place of my 1.2 and retire the 1.2 (mostly due to the increased value)… but I haven’t gotten the GE to sound good enough to take over.
Well now everyone knows about the Ge OCD, I expect that they will sell out and I can quit worrying about getting the money together for one of my own. 🤘
hoboroadie Sign up for emails from Fulltone. You’ll get offers for discounts on “blems”. I have several and honest to God, I can’t find a single flaw on any of them, but they were a lot cheaper. I don’t know if Mike Fuller is able to write off Blems or what, but they are all as good as anything he puts out. They have a deal right now on the Germanium OCD Blems. for about $60 off ($171 vs $229).
There you go, Matthew. I knew that, you knew that, now we all know, so only those of us who squandered our last shekels on old JBL drivers really have any excuse not to buy them all out.
Loved the episode. Learned a good bit. And Thanx to Dan, I'm now rather lite in wallet. Around the 38 minute mark, some Dan Chords were strummed using the Ge & D. Memory Man..... and it was a 'yeah baby' moment !!!🎸🎶🎧 Bought the new Limited Edition - OCD the next day !! Killer sound. Keep up the great work guys.
Great show guys (Germanium sniffers). Great sounds! I was always terrible at word scrambles. Thanks for triggering my elementary school insecurities 😜😜😉. Only took me 3 shows to figure out those shirts haha duhhhhh. Send the short bus.
I bought the V2 then realized there was over 5 Versions. I got the 1.7 with a dealy for a deal.Probably just keep them bolth for 2 gain stages. Was thinking about trading 1. for a tube screamer.
The OCD was the first pedal I ever bought. Got it used off a guy for $100 probably 11 years ago. It was the v1.3 and is still in brand new shape today and because of my own OCD and the fact that it was my first pedal and I always come back to it, I'll never get rid of it. I've never loved any pedal more and I've tried probably hundreds over the years
I owned and sold four OD pedals wishing to avoid the cost of the OCD! I finally bought the V2.0 at a good price used; could have saved money if I had bought an OCD in the first place!
Eh, I bought the v2 a few years ago after hearing it on this show. It was fun for a while, but I can't even use it these days. It adds too much fake to the sound. Like plugging into a different amp. You're millage may vary, but it's certainly not the God pedal. Regardless of the hard sell and parroting here.
@@Les537 I've never tried the V2 and it sounds like absolute garbage here. So I stand by my point. They sound like two different pedals which is what Dan was getting at
I have ver 1.2, which was 2nd incarnation of original. A little less aggressive than original, and with my 2009 VOS 59 Les Paul through a Fender HRD III with WGS ETA 65 speaker that replaced original...amazing. When you have achieved a 3D sound in your setup,,,with no ice picking....you're there. :)
My Epiphone SG 400 pro with those classic alnico pro pickups can sound sometimes a little dark even with only 13 feet of guitar cable, makes me think it really doesn’t have 500k volume pots like advertised. So sometimes, I run an 18” patch cable to a boss SD-1 in the off position on a stool right next to where I sit to play. And it brings all the presence back
Product idea: the next TPS pedal should light up when engaged just like on the TPS videos: the whole front panel, including the knobs, goes from dull to bright! 😀😇😎
This video made me look at the OCD that I have been playing for the last 6 years. It's a v1.4 I picked it up on craigslist for dirt cheap. I play lots of Hendrix/SRV and this pedal sounds incredible through my marshall. Thanks for making this video.

Enjoying this video from a few years back. Just took my OCD Ge off the shelf and put it back on my board- what a great pedal it is.
GT1000?? $$
Get a GT1000??
These gentlemen have definitely had their wheaties this morning they are sounding stellar in all phases of chord progressions...all listeners in agreement say aye..! 🎶
ErrmahGerrrd! I have the 1.7 AND Ge on my board right now! Buyer Affirmation Def Con 1! Thanks Dan & Mick!!
These guys are actually amazing guitarists....
Could you please make an episode about Sunn model T amps and derivated pedals ? That would be soooo nice
The difference is huge, I prefer 1.7 hands down, I think I'll keep mine forever (ver. 1.4 I think)
marcello252 I have a 1.4 also. Great pedal, considering a OCD GE as well
Hi Dan € Mick, Excellent Show 👍👍👍.
Yep! Welcome to the team. That’s the way to do it!
I love Fridays cuz it means a new TPS video!
That black Strat sounded positively delicious!!
Thank you!
@@ThatPedalShow How does it compare to the '62?
Hear hear. Great purchase.
agreed
@@smwatson1512 Better than Blue, but still not in the same league.
Glad I purchased my OCD-GE b4 the company closed its doors. The price on all ocd's no matter which version are on the rise fast! Love my OCD!!!
I already have the V2 & GE & mini vibe...yeah 🤟🏼the week ends beautifully!
I completely agree with some of the stacking comments like the soul food one. My OCD is really worth it's board space as its not only great on its own but it behaves really well when playing with other pedals (and with the guitar volume pot)
Love the show as ever.
Thank you Robert!
i was eating lunch at work with my headphones on, not looking at my phone, and when that started i had to put my lunch down and pick my phone up to see what was going on
I’ve got the GE version and it’s awesome. On low gain, it’s chimney and trebly, yet thick. With more gain, it has an almost fuzz like quality, reminds me of the White Stripes early stuff. Easy to get that sound w this pedal.
Ok you sold me.Just bought a v1.7 ...Will try it through my 65 bandmaster and my 73 vt-22....Good times!!
Instant like as soon as the black strat shows up. Now let's see the rest...
Great demo I love my OCD v1.4( a part of Germanium on it) but I interesting in new authentic Germanium version
I once had a 1.4 and this is making me want another OCD!
Great job as always. Playing in the intro was a great kick off to the video.
@@SaxJockey Very cool. It seems Michael Fuller put a lot of thought into the V2 and how well it plays with other pedals and amps.
You guys have the best jobs in the world and your good at it too.
Just like to say thank you both for keeping the guitar exciting and helping me in finding great pedals and matching them up with others for a good tone....so yeah cheers guys....loving it...
Ah, that’s ace, cheers Jason :)
Thanks Jason. If only it was a job! Mick here. :0)
Got the Joyo Ultimate Drive for 35 euros, it's suposed to be a clon of the OCD, it sounds very very similar to my ears, just an economical option for those who don't want to spend a lot on another pedal..... greetings from Mallorca ;)
you saved my week like the save at 28:00 -- OCD FTW - I think I need all of them! :)
Humbuckers and Single Coils
sure would like to see a lot more use of the plexi with pedal demos
Agreed on its sound across the gain sweep. I've always found the OCD to be a fine "swiss army knife" OD. Those that I've had have been adept at anything from a light push on the amp to searing smooth distortion. I could even get a little wooly fuzz from them. It would be my deserted island OD. There's a pedal that I like better than OCD for each gain range, but none I've found can score B+/A- for everything.
That black strat is gorgeous!
I had my eye on that strat! You snooze you lose I guess. Congrats, it sounds ace.
Ha! Sorry Will. If it’s any consolation, I really do like it. :0)
TPS: "They sound very different".
Me: (picks up phone) "Hello? Yes. I need to schedule an appointment with an ENT".
I have a 1.7 and a 2.0. I prefer the 1.7, warts and all.
I love that people don’t like the V2. Bought mine for 50 bucks used and has been my favorite pedal ever since. To each their own haha
Just when I thought I was done obsessively compulsively buying any more drive pedals...
Pretty sure there is a marketing strategy behind calling it "OCD" if you know what I mean. Genius
Germanium review starts at 36:46 😉
I own an OCD v1.7 thanks to you,I dont regret it, it's fantastic.
Saw the number 12 looks like you a couple days ago and he was rocking a d&m drive! Cheers guys keep it up 👍🏻
Been a devoted Fulldrive 2 user for almost 2 decades ... just got a Candy Apple Red OCD - I’ve been missing out 🎸🎶
Me too. I love knowing the engineering is top quality and if Mike can't find a part, he'll have it made to the highest specs. All for reasonable prices.
Wash the dot pal

or does it have to be three words because you're counting spaces as well?
We love those pedals too. Different tones for different jobs. Everyone on the planet should own a Broadcast.
@@ThatPedalShow Right! I almost bought an OCD because of Mick's rec and Andy Martin's and Nick's vids. Everyone should own a Hudson pedal - even the new version or the Sidecar. Killers!
Hopefully you got an amp and cab that's at least expensive enough vs your pedals haha
Cheers!
V2 sounded the best with my Vox amps.
Tone junkies channel has a great documentary on the ocd evolution. I have a 1.7 and it never leaves my board. Wanna get the GE. It’s supposedly more like the original ocd. Awesome video nevertheless today.
Love the T Shirts... surprised you didn’t do a “Lashed Phat Two” version!
or "Plead, That's How"
Smitty Werbenjagermanjenson Or “hold the paws, ta”.
Lashed That POW, Had Phat towels
Or “The Top Wah Lads”
Rick Matthews They HAVE to make that one!!
I got the OCD V2 after watching one of your past shows (I think you were comparing overdrives into popular amps)
My favourite pedal for ‘fat’ rhythm tones and i hit the front with either a soul food or a mini tube screamer for solos.
Theyve already skyrocketed to $400+
You can still buy a V2 from Fulltone today for $122.
@@humplucker2445 is the GE version all done for?
@@DarrenDoo yup
Love this episode... the geekier the better as far as I'm concerned. The OCD-CS-Ge has just become main drive on one of my boards - love it.
To my ears the OCD-Ge has the tone I like. Plus, the feel is very amp-like.
I love my V1.2 but I also like my 1.4. I recently bought the GE. I’d really like to use it in place of my 1.2 and retire the 1.2 (mostly due to the increased value)… but I haven’t gotten the GE to sound good enough to take over.
The GE is the worst of the entire bunch unfortunately it could of been awesome with a few revisions.
Am I weird that I really prefer the V2? I just like how the high mids are when doing the high up solo stuff.
nope, i like it more too
I agree, something about the sustained notes that I love about V2!
Just bought the GE OCD, it has a different Vol pot - manual talks about it.
To me, version 1.2 is the best of them all!
Same for the 1.7
There you go, Matthew.
Run a v2 or ge for a great Rhythm sound. Then kick a prince / king of tone, or tube screamer into it to boost mids. Sounds killer into a blackface.
Couldn’t bond with the v2.0 either. Regret selling my v1.3 years ago just to try the Xotic line. Great video.
Great show guys (Germanium sniffers). Great sounds! I was always terrible at word scrambles. Thanks for triggering my elementary school insecurities 😜😜😉. Only took me 3 shows to figure out those shirts haha duhhhhh. Send the short bus.
The OCD first appeared in May 2005.
Thanks!
And in 2020 it disapeared from most pedalboards
@@Ottophil just got one today thanks
I bought the V2 then realized there was over 5 Versions. I got the 1.7 with a dealy for a deal.Probably just keep them bolth for 2 gain stages. Was thinking about trading 1. for a tube screamer.
Well guess I have to finally get an OCD. Have put it off for so many years.
They sound like two different pedals which is what Dan was getting at
GREAT VIDEO!!! Too COOOOOL (and ironic...) My son and I were just comparing different versions of OCD pedals last night!!!
Awesome!
Ohhhh nice!
OCD, Best overdrive pedal ever made! Amazing tones and awesome playing. Top 5 videos from TPS for sure! Cheers
Great vid. Made me put my OCD back on my board
