Hey I have this craftsman mower and you hen I try to start it all it does is click and the headlights on it turn on do you think it could be the battery

I had to say "Thank you!" I have never troubleshooted starting a mower. I tried jumping the mower off, but absolute nothing. I watched your video and figured out the blades were engaged! I put the lever on the turtle and jumping cables and I got my yard all cut! Thank you so very much! @@Ryan-ez6mt If you have been married long enough, it makes sense. When you and your buddy try to teach your wives to shoot guns or something important like that, switch partners. Your wife will be too stubborn with you when you tell her any corrections she needs to make or point out safety mistakes. Believe it or not, she will actually listen to your friend and learn way better without her guard up.
Drain the float bowl for the Winter. Put some gumout in the float bowl to keep the needle valve from sticking. Don't leave yard equipment out in the rain! Put a little oil in the cylinder to oil the cylinder. Then crank it around with the plug wire unhooked. Replace the carburetor in the spring. Change the oil and filter. Check the blades and spindles. BTW, that pose is from Hulk Hogan! I went to school with Hulk from 5-10th grade! He came up with the name in the 6th when he was 13! I watched him wrestle a guy on the playground in the 6th! That was Hulk-a-mania being born! He had bangs from 5-10th grade. He had that gravely voice since the 5th grade. He played football. He has Hulk's Shop in Florida.

Another tip would be to check the carburetor to see if it’s plugged with gunk!

Then promise the kid you will pay him a thousand dollars to mow your lawn all summer but he'll have to wait until mowing season is over before you pay him.When kid comes to collect money tell him to get lost. He might burn down your house but it's worth a try. Just kidding, I'm sure he'll burn down your house.
If I live in the country on dirt road lol there is no neighborhood kids, we never even had tricker treaters. In all honesty it’s 10x easier for me to operate any skidsteer with a brush a hog then figure out the lawnmower
And if all else fails your hard working neighbors kid is always looking for work he can figure this out

And if all else fails, check the fuse running inline from the ignition switch. They don't note that in the trouble shooting section of the manuals. I found that to be my problem, costing me about $1 to replace it, and before having a repair company charge me big bucks!

My neighbors left a lawn King behind so I told them to leave it at my house. They decided to just give it to me. I have an older Briggs and Stratton that runs great still but I can't get this darn lawn king that's alot nicer and newer to start and it's driving me nuts 😅 my old one needs a new belt on the bottom and I have to remove the blade because my kids love to leave their socks in the yard and my son ran them all over 😒 now they're wrapped all in the blade. I'll try to disengage the blade. I've never used it. All flat tires 😂but tires are cheaper then a new mower

No. 3 - turns out my hydrostatic was engaged. After pushing it for forward and for reverse, it freed itself. Mower started right up. Thank you sir!

I had a problem with starting. Thought battery was dead. I charged it up but still wouldn't start. It would start with a jump.
Turns out all I had to do was clean the battery cable connection.
So check the connector on the battery cables and battery terminal connectors before buying a new battery or even before charging your battery. May not need a charge but only a quick scrape with a screw driver or sand paper or wire brush.
I've got the same mower. Did all your steps and replaced the solenoid, ignition switch, the battery, starter, and the carburetor. I even made sure the valves were at .010 and my.015 and they were. It'll turn on only if I completely cover the air intake above the carb with my hand completely. Idk what else to do.
Sounds like maybe a gasket leak on the carb

Just bought a used 2010 boldens 13.5 hp. Riding lawn mower/lawn tractor. I put new battery and put a gallon of gas in it. In neutral I’m in the seat when starting it. Ok, turns over good but will not fire/ run.

My lawn mower won’t fire up, just click sound after deck belt replacement. Checked all the wires, battery, nothing wrong. Turned out the nut underneath the engine was NOT tightened properly! Once it was tightened properly, the lawnmower fired up when the key was turned on. Just trying to share this with people

Get yourself float chager for off season. Battery will last 4 to 7 season keep the repair cost down. I brought from inexpensive float charger from Haber freight going same battery for a out 7 years

The latest one that I"ve been thru-"troy bilt Bronco",turn the key nothing at all happens But if I leave the key on and run a jumper from the positive terminal,directly to the starter, it fires right up.From what I've learned on u-tube,probably bad ground,I"ll check that or I"ll just run it like that.Remember there"s a million safety switches (ok,probably 4 or 5),That"ll keep these things from getting power to the starter.Brake switch,blade engagement switch parking brake switch,reverse switch(so you can"t mow in reverse(How stupid!),oh,seat switch,if your ass isn"t sitting on the seat-no go(very handy)I jumped all that crap out along time ago ,hell,I just wanna cut the damn grass!

I never weigh enough as a kid Bc it has some stupid safety setting on it for x amount of weight it, or it turns off, or won’t start. My mother doesn’t weight enough & now I can’t get it turn over. Battery is good, starter, plugs. It wants turn over, but just doesn’t
My mower is about 10 years old. Battery was changed once. Now i put my battery charger on it while i weed eat the front yard. Starts right up every time.

If it doesn't crank at all after all your checking, 9 out of 10 it's your fuse or relay switch.

If you run into the problem where all that stuff is good, and when your turning the key and your not getting anything at all, i spent hours trying to figure it out and knew it had to be electrical problem, check your safety swtches... and it my case, it was a 25 cent 20 amp fuse under the gear shift where mine was in the middle.. changed fuse and it started right up.

My mower has been running fine until i didn't run it for 2 weeks, now it's cranking but it sounds like the battery is weak. The motor only turns 1 or half revolution at a time, every time. I hooked up a battery charger to it and same results. I have a toro Lx 425. Thanks

I have a mower just like the one you demonstrated, and it will not roll in neutral. I had to pull it out from the carport to put some air in the tires and it would not roll. Neither brake was engaged.
Maybe a belt stuck underneath it

Yes needed a new battery.
So that's all well and good one difference on mine is it has a safety, that you have to sit on the seat or it won't start, how can I jump it and sit on the seat without causing major sparking..
If it is in park, out of gear, and the blades are off you should be able to start it without being in the seat

Could be the connectors under the seat, or the ignition switch
There is lots of ways to start a mower when diffrent stuff happen like if your scolenoid has gone or your startermotor has freid😊
My mother in law has a craftsman lt1000 with a 18hp Briggs and Stratton that spins over but just pops when the choke is on. I took off the carb and cleaned it and change the spark plugs and made sure the fuel filter was clean. I don't think it's getting a spark because I took the spark plug out and hooked it up to the wire and couldn't see it sparking at all. Do you think the coil has gone bad? Also one of the rocker arms was way loose but I tightened it up better than it was but I got to get a feeler gauge and do it right. Thanks for any feedback.

Thank you. We just bought a used troy bronco auto trans 29 hp. It ran great. Brought it home, it started fast, ran it 5 minutes then it sparked n went poof sound n died. My husband checked and it was empty of gas n dirty tank. What to do? Won't start.
With my 11 year old Craftsman, I have to have my backside in the seat and foot on the brake or it won't start as a safety feature. I wonder if the starter is another vague thing to check? Another thing I just learned is that the throttle cable can be a bit loose and doesn't open it up all the way. A simple tightening of the cable screw near the lever is an option. This winter I recharged the battery a few times during storage and it said 100% but when I tried it the first time this season, no turnover. Thought it might finally be the starter but went for the easy thing first and it was the battery after all. Thanks for the checklist on starting problems.
Okay I did all that get spark, fuel. Replaced ignition and starter solenoid. Still will not turn over by key. Also won't stay running ether, I was leaning more towards one of the safety switches. What is your opinion

that only matters if it is gear
If it has been sitting for a long while it can be bad gas also so make sure it smells right

I have this exact mower... Started it for the first time since last year yesterday and it fired up in abkut 8 seconds and was running perfectly fine. Drive around to the front yard and as soon as I engaged the blades/mower it died and will not start now. It just turns and turns and turns. Cranks just fine... What should i check next? Why would it suddenly die after engaging the blades?? Hope your still active on this channel

Did all that put new battery in. and nothing. Was jump starting before. Now nothing is there a fuse . Also I took the wires connected to the seat and twisted them all together. That didn't stop it from starting til now
Some models have a fuel tap which needs to be turned on.

Thanks for the quick refresher! I got a Murray Select Widebody LT with a B&S 16.5 HP engine that won't do anything. The previous owner changed out the starter solenoid, so it's brand new - could it go bad after one or two uses if the starter was bad? (Guessing here since the engine clicked and turned over but sluggishly - now I got nothing.) Any suggestions to help my cause in this heat (93 today) besides working in the shade?
Sounds like a dead battery to me. Have you tried jump starting the mower off a car? Drink lots of water!
Battery was charged overnight and got clicking -- apparently from starter solenoid not the starter. Will attempt to jumpstart it just in case battery is on its last leg.
Wanted to give you an update - it was the starter. Got it in the mail today, installed it and got half of my mile-high lawn cut before it got too dark. Success!

Hi there. I have a husqvarna lawn riding mower with 24 hp Briggs & Stratton that not start. It died on me when I was cutting my grass. It seems like no power but when I play with the electric wire, it has power showing the number of the hours on the meter then When I try to start I heard it click a little bit then died again and no power again. Could you tell me what is wrong with that?
I habe a craftsman that won't start. It cranks but won't turn over I already put a new starter on it because it didn't seem to be turning it but that didn't fix it. It cranks better but still won't turn over. Also put in a new battery. I do notice that after trying to turn it over for a minute or two the battery dies. Not sure if that's a clue. I tried changing the spark plug and I think that might be the issue as I think the plug is stripped well not the plug but whatever it's called you screw the plug into. Can you tell me how to check if it's getting spark? Btw I had not luck starting with use of starter fluid in the carb.
Any help advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking it might be electrical or plug related. Hopefully from what I've wrote someone can help diagnose the problem.
troy bilt 3 yr old tractor I got it jump started, then after 5 mins with car running, i took the jumpers off. it would not start, in fact it made a half hearted buzz like an over timer. but not starting. so on went the jumpers and this time, it would not start. same buzz noise. What have I done?
Mine cranks but won't catch. Btand bew battery , was told I may have to charge it since it might have lost charge on the store shelf.

update on my mower : someone repurposed the 2 main power wires .
red wire and the double red/white wire
the problem with the mower that i have was someone crossed the solid red wire with the ground red/white stripe wire .
red wire [ starter jumper wire for solenoid ]
red wire/ white stripe [ ground wire for hot side of solenoid for the carburetor ] ( is tied in with the safety switch [[ both of them . . .is like a secondary hot wire ]] .
everytime i turned the key to crank it , the starter would have a slight click.
had to remove the wires from the computator plug with a 90 degree awl to bend the metal catch so i could get it out, and put it in the place it was supposed to be for to begin with.
when i had recieved the new ignition switch, all the letters were in the wrong place. had to result to the O.G. ignition switch.
good news is, that if i need a new ignition switch, i can always move the female spade terminal plugs
to where they are supposed to be.
going to make a small correct color wire spade plug so i will know where the wires will go.
Went through all these steps and still does nothing not even turn over ...nothimg.Whats the next step?

Where is the darn spark plug located on this mower? Do I need to remove the engine shroud to access it? This guy never showed it.
Most front engined mowers have the spark plug at the front of the engine while rear engined mowers have the spark plug at the rear of the mower usually the spark plug is covered by a rubber boot that connects the ignition wire to the end of the spark plug this rubber plug needs to be removed to access the spark plug

And when all else fails, check the nut that holds the steering wheel. Some people should not be allowed to use gasoline powered equipment.
I just got a new battery. It’s making a clicking sound, but it won’t start even when I’m trying to jump it which when it was the battery issue that made it work I don’t know where the spark plug is.

Hello, my cub cadet won't start and it was fine last week. Forgive my ignorance but, could it be because I have it sitting outside & it's been 100+ degrees? Shall I cover it for some shade/added protection?

I've been having a problem getting my t1600 19.5hp mower started. I've done just about everything. I took the carb off and cleaned it and the fuel salenoid and cleaned out as well and I changed houses. It will start off i take off the breathe and put my hand over the breathe hole. I'm thinking about buying a new card because I'm thinking it's abad carb at this point. I'm also thinking about checking the valves. The motor team good two years ago but it has been sitting outside. When I hold my hand over the breathe hole out does sound decent. Any advice will be greatly appreciated thank you, God bless...
Sounds like a air/fuel ratio problem. Maybe a gasket leak somewhere
If you have to change "houses" again, I would pick a desert climate where you only have to cut your grass once per season?😂
where is the spark plug situated and what tool do you need to remove it?
If single cylinder, it's on the front - look for a large diameter wire. When the engine is off and cool, grasp the boot (rubber elbow) and pull it off. There's the spark plug! If it's a two cylinder, the plugs will be on the sides arranged in a V opposite each other. You can unscrew the plug using a Crescent wrench, just be sure not to round off the corners.
@Joshua Bailey sounds like the fuel shutoff solenoid. Look at botttom of the fuel bowl on the carburetor, You will see the solenoid with the power wire going into the bottom of it. When you turn on the key you should hear it click, that lets the gas flow through the carb. No click no gas no start.

Ive replaced my battery and spark plug, and checked all my wiring and safety switches and mine still wont click when i turn the key. Could it be my starter switch?
I have a craftsman it won't start . When I put gas in the carburetor it starts but stops . Like it was to start but it won't stay on . I'm thinking it's the carburetor solenoid. But not sure
