US is no more as attractive as it use to be 20-30 years ago. Just think about what you need in life to be happy. Back then we didn't have proper Internet, mobile phones, gadgets or fancy cars. Now there's almost everything that you need to spend a decent life in India, unless you are making less than a threshold amount. Within India itself, you have different places that you may or may not like. You have plenty of options now a days.
The only question is whether we Indian can afford that decent life with a fancy car etc, as for example an Indian with household monthly income of only Rs 25,000 ($300) falls within top 10% of the population (annual periodic labor survey, Govt Of India), 40% Indian kids are malnourished due to lack of nutrition (as of 2019) and merely ~ 7% Indian citizens has a proper “real” job (3% Govt + 4% Private) (i,e a job that Indian Govt count as a job that pays some benefit), rest just do something or whatever. So that decent life is great for dreaming but in reality it is pretty much nothing but illusion !!

The point I was trying to make is that there are plenty of opportunities in India unlike the past. Theoretically, there are many points to compare which can be misleading in the true sense of things. There are pros and cons of wherever you live. You need to figure out what works for yourself. For example, a friend of mine was stabbed multiple times in US while doing his student job, but still he stayed. That was his choice. He is doing well there and now it's been 22 years.

Hello. I was born in India and I moved to is with my family when I was a kid. I struggled a lot growing up and did not have much friends because I wasn’t really able to make friends with American people and I always so Indian people or students as my competition. Even other asian people were very competitive and there was no one to help with schooling. My parents also very much struggled. It was definitely very isolating. When I moved out of my home for job, I struggled to make friends and failed, and was very isolated. I got depressed in my teenage years as well during my work. I still feel like I don’t fit in somewhere. It’s so hard because some Indian people are also toxic and American people are also toxic and you don’t know where and when to find the good people.
I have the exact same feeling. I grew up in North America.. basically Canada and U.S. I feel so lonely. I'm surrounded by white people. Don't have any friends that I can hang out with. I'd totally be your friend. Too bad I don't meet anyone like me
Don't try to mix with Indian people overseas. You will come up against a mindset that is based on competitive appropriation. Indians are lost in any society. You have to take the best and leave the rest. Going back to India is impossible.

I have lived in Chicago for 2years and 3 years in Boston not realizing i am not a cold person. My mental and physical health was terrible affected. I blamed myself for it and tried all kinds of daily routines think i can fix it. Finally, I moved back to India for 2years and now in Boston again (my bad luck) facing the same health issue. I want to move away from this place even though my job is so gooodd. Thanks Nistha for highlighting the importance of weather for people who can't tolerate cold.

My opinion to all aspirants to live abroad, and you have to do so much budgeting, calculation and think so much to eat, shop outside, medical expenses, then there is no freedom. Live in a country where lifestyle is comfortable and you are able to spend a little generously. No use in living in such big country but where you can't survive financially or spend generously. I don't understand the madness people have about living in Dubai or USA or abroad

Very cool. I was in the Urbana Champaign for a few years and I remember the cold and wet walks to the university. Flat area too. Just corn and soybean all over if you go outside the university town, but I enjoyed the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Agree with you in India I saw kids over eighteen still depending on parents for lot of things that they can do by themselves and make decisions even for the carrier they have to choose from getting in colleges also tougher then in USA at in India because of cast and creeds there’s always advantages and disadvantages after I spent same amount of years in both places I found USA has more advantages then in India

To those going to the USA: this is extremely subjective! I for example, felt none of these problems because I made friends with my roommates, loved winter and darkness and had friends all over the campus and city too. I also come from a very conservative household, so making my own food doing my own chores was freeing, and I've been doing it ever since I moved for my first job back in India.

US is very lonely place, its a fact. its very individualistic society too. Anti depressant meds is 100s of billions dollar industry in US and not for no reason. Unless you are very wealth driven, single minded person, you are better off without US dream. You can't have best of both worlds.
If anyone’s visiting to a foreign country, they must do their due diligence of learning the basics of their language. That’s the least we can do. If you are unable to learn the language, hire a translator. They are easily available.
You are so right. I share your observations. I had the same experience between 2001 till 2006. I felt many a times lonely even though most of my friends were Americans., and none of them were Indians.
Yes Indians who come to USA experience a culture shock. One good thing is I had two other room mates one from IIT and one from Banglore. So it helped me not be lonely or left out in USA . Both these were in Masters in electrical engineering. But the moment I graduated from University, and started working I realized in USA it is all individualistic. This means your neighbour don't invite you for dinner. In India if I step into my neighbors house it is like I stepped into my own families house. Now I have retired, my wife passed away , now I think how long can I sustain good health here. No the real quality of live is measured if you live among caring people. Fortunately loneliness has brought about great Revelations in me or maybe I am deceiving myself. In the end when you die you are alone. So I am not affected by loneliness anymore. I use it as an oppurtunity to look into the emptiness,, sometimes even realizing we are all part of this humanity. It is good to educated.. But it is a means for making a living. In the end my Mechanical Engineering degree is of no use. I rather search and be with the sacred. Sometimes even your family and friens become strangers because they appear so disillusioned. I think Buddha missed a point perhaps. He was smart for his times, but did he realize the sacred. Did he give you recipe for sacred. One more thing I would like to add people tell you this kind of person is genius. I don't believe that, I think if I give you a chocolate would you not eat it. So if you interested you can get all Nobel Prizes in the world in Physics say. Just that how badly you need to know.

Loneliness is the worst thing and family is the best thing. My father was smart, earned money, bought some property's. Saved money, took early retirement and moved back. Now living well among friends and family.
Country culture will definitely be different, but the cultural shock within India is major. The one going from North to South or the other way has to face much more problems than facing in US . Yes Europeans are rude n arrogant but not in US. Adjustment and adaptation is the jist of life no matter where u go , from parents to in-laws also demands a lot.
The problem is us Indians think just because its US life is easy. Indians are used to having things done for them.. if you can handle yourself, the USA is great. We want a maid to handle cleaning, someone to cook.. we are raised lazy.. Learn to manage work yourself and US rocks!!!
For me the secret to staying warm in the winter is layering. Long warm tight under pants that are called long Johns are essential, also under shirt with long sleeves. In the store they are sold as cuddle duds. Warm socks and good shoes, scarf for cold wind to cover mouth and a good winter hat or good hood. I spend most of winter with long johns even indoors. It is depressing in US. I'm so unlike anyone. My aunt used to say 'dhobi ka kutta, naa ghar ka naa ghat ka'. Also not like other Indians because Indians are so diverse and divided even in India.

There is no superior complexity - these immigration officials are not highly paid like software/IT people. They are just doing their jobs and see people from all nations around the world and are not targeting Indians. Been here for decades and can belong to India and USA. There can be 2 homes, takes time.
Completely disagree with you. Superiority complex and privilege is widely prevalent over here especially among the immigration officials. Doesn't matter how much they are paid they act like they are above all the immigrants that pass through them. We can only take solace that once we start working we're going to make way more money than them. Hopefully karma will pay a visit to those officials.

US is not for everyone; for that matter any new experience is not going to be a good one nor something that will make one adapt to himself/herself. Having lived in sunny areas, it is not easy to put up with six months of gloomy weather with months of snow. The rule of thumb should be, if one cannot adopt to US weather in a year, just pack the bags and leave. Because it is not worth putting up with the stress and whining is not going to help.
@@rohanutep81 Good question but weather is not just one of the things that can stress you out. Many people tend to find one thing or another to put up with the life in US in the beginning. For you it was weather - even for me weather was the first thing so I decided to live in Texas - but for others it could be family bonding, living condition, making friends etc. Some hide it and people like you express it meticulously. Nevertheless, compared to many other countries, US is a place where one can earn well and have good lifestyle. Good luck...
Living in Los Angeles for the last 8 years. Working for big tech giants here. Moved up the corporate ladder still deep down I know that I don't belong here. During my trip to India, it's evident that I don't belong to India either. All my friends got married and moved into their life. You may get hopeless while having the best job and living in the best city
If you look at the IPSOS survey based in France, India is actually happier than the US. 86% of Indians say they are happy, where as the US, 76% say they are happy. Even though Indians are poorer than Americans, they are happier. Even Brazilians are happier than Americans, at 83% of the population saying they are happy. People have the misconception that Americans are happy because they are rich and prosperous, but that is not the case.

Have you even watched the video before giving your expert opinion. Whatever she is stating is fact. Long winters, no sun for days, loneliness are real issues. You will start noticing this once you are settled down little bit and not in your hustle days as you are too busy to notice it.
US is not for Papa ki paris. Mom will cook for me. There will be someone to pickup my luggage. Then you are good where you are living. Not just US, take any country, one need to be adaptive to the weather and the lifestyle. Racism is part of every country. People from india face racism in their own country. North Indians face it in down south and South Indians are all madrasis. You will suffer in Chennai if you don’t speak Tamil. North east people are ‘chinkis’. It’s not about the country or the place. It’s all about you. How you look at your surroundings and how adaptive you are is what matters. This is coming from a person who lived in many places in india and outside india.

To those going to the USA: this is extremely subjective! I for example, felt none of these problems because I made friends with my roommates, loved winter and darkness and had friends all over the campus and city too. I also come from a very conservative household, so making my own food doing my own chores was freeing, and I've been doing it ever since I moved for my first job back in India.

US is very lonely place, its a fact. its very individualistic society too. Anti depressant meds is 100s of billions dollar industry in US and not for no reason. Unless you are very wealth driven, single minded person, you are better off without US dream. You can't have best of both worlds.

If anyone’s visiting to a foreign country, they must do their due diligence of learning the basics of their language. That’s the least we can do. If you are unable to learn the language, hire a translator. They are easily available.
You are so right. I share your observations. I had the same experience between 2001 till 2006. I felt many a times lonely even though most of my friends were Americans., and none of them were Indians.
Yes Indians who come to USA experience a culture shock. One good thing is I had two other room mates one from IIT and one from Banglore. So it helped me not be lonely or left out in USA . Both these were in Masters in electrical engineering.
But the moment I graduated from University, and started working I realized in USA it is all individualistic. This means your neighbour don't invite you for dinner. In India if I step into my neighbors house it is like I stepped into my own families house.
Now I have retired, my wife passed away , now I think how long can I sustain good health here.
No the real quality of live is measured if you live among caring people.
Fortunately loneliness has brought about great Revelations in me or maybe I am deceiving myself.
In the end when you die you are alone. So I am not affected by loneliness anymore. I use it as an oppurtunity to look into the emptiness,, sometimes even realizing we are all part of this humanity.
It is good to educated.. But it is a means for making a living. In the end my Mechanical Engineering degree is of no use.
I rather search and be with the sacred. Sometimes even your family and friens become strangers because they appear so disillusioned.
I think Buddha missed a point perhaps. He was smart for his times, but did he realize the sacred.

Country culture will definitely be different, but the cultural shock within India is major. The one going from North to South or the other way has to face much more problems than facing in US . Yes Europeans are rude n arrogant but not in US. Adjustment and adaptation is the jist of life no matter where u go , from parents to in-laws also demands a lot.
The problem is us Indians think just because its US life is easy.
Indians are used to having things done for them.. if you can handle yourself, the USA is great. We want a maid to handle cleaning, someone to cook.. we are raised lazy..

For me the secret to staying warm in the winter is layering. Long warm tight under pants that are called long Johns are essential, also under shirt with long sleeves. In the store they are sold as cuddle duds. Warm socks and good shoes, scarf for cold wind to cover mouth and a good winter hat or good hood. I spend most of winter with long johns even indoors. It is depressing in US. I'm so unlike anyone. My aunt used to say 'dhobi ka kutta, naa ghar ka naa ghat ka'. Also not like other Indians because Indians are so diverse and divided even in India.

Try going to other countries like China - you have to learn how to communicate even without knowing the language well. There is no superior complexity - these immigration officials are not highly paid like software/IT people. They are just doing their jobs and see people from all nations around the world and are not targeting Indians. Been here for decades and can belong to India and USA. There can be 2 homes, takes time.
Completely disagree with you. Superiority complex and privilege is widely prevalent over here especially among the immigration officials. Doesn't matter how much they are paid they act like they are above all the immigrants that pass through them. We can only take solace that once we start working we're going to make way more money than them. Hopefully karma will pay a visit to those officials.

If doing her own work is too much for your daughter, then better not send your darling princess outside your castle.
US is not for everyone; for that matter any new experience is not going to be a good one nor something that will make one adapt to himself/herself. Having lived in sunny areas, it is not easy to put up with six months of gloomy weather with months of snow. The rule of thumb should be, if one cannot adopt to US weather in a year, just pack the bags and leave. Because it is not worth putting up with the stress and whining is not going to help.

@@rohanutep81 Good question but weather is not just one of the things that can stress you out. Many people tend to find one thing or another to put up with the life in US in the beginning. For you it was weather - even for me weather was the first thing so I decided to live in Texas - but for others it could be family bonding, living condition, making friends etc. Some hide it and people like you express it meticulously. Nevertheless, compared to many other countries, US is a place where one can earn well and have good lifestyle. Good luck...

So everyone should not hv exceptations outside his small family. U may this is pessimistic thinking but this is the bitter truth. A successful wealthy man has countless friends whom he himself does not remember but poor man has no friends. So have balanced thinking and dont except anything from other for ur mental peace. Connect with God and it will give peace. Also talking to a good frind with whom u hv gr8 bonding hhelps relieve stress. It is a message for every bro and sis who is feeling lonely in life. US is not for Papa ki paris. Mom will cook for me. There will be someone to pickup my luggage. Then you are good where you are living. Not just US, take any country, one need to be adaptive to the weather and the lifestyle. Racism is part of every country. People from india face racism in their own country. North Indians face it in down south and South Indians are all madrasis. You will suffer in Chennai if you don’t speak Tamil. North east people are ‘chinkis’. It’s not about the country or the place. It’s all about you. How you look at your surroundings and how adaptive you are is what matters. This is coming from a person who lived in many places in india and outside india.
