So much so that it's a meme at this point lol it was already famous for being so simple but I think it was one of the first songs that TH-cam guitarists started getting demonetized for
@@peteplaysmusic preety much any song is , or riff, i stoped doing ny covers few years back when even face book started muting them because they could slightly hear the song being used as a backing track. so yeah no more cover songs for me lol.
I've been watching you since the first shred wars you did with Jared Dines!! That's also when I started playing guitar, you're a great inspiration. Keep up the good work!
Great video idea! I was half expecting to see a second Devin Townsend based on his solo stuff or Devin Townsend Project, I'd love to see that in the next one
I usually enjoy your videos, but I wish your riffs were based more on the general styles of guitarists instead of one specific riff they've done. I know it would take a lot more work, but a Dave Mustaine riff that sounds like it could come from Rust in Peace as opposed to just a ripoff of Holy Wars for example would've been cool. Other than this nitpick, you killed it as always!
Yep, that’s a legitimate criticism and something I’m definitely mindful of when making these. Time is usually the limiting factor if something sounds a little too close to an original song but sometimes it’s nice to make things super familiar, it’s a fine balance. Some bands are easier than other to replicate too like Gojira for example, I could do those guys for days and I don’t really know many of their songs lol. Anyway, pleased you enjoyed :)
@@peteplaysmusic totally understandable, thanks for taking the time to read and reply. It’s actually my first time commenting on one of your videos. Usually I just watch, grin stupidly, and leave a like :D keep doing what you do mate!
Wish you would hurry up with that EP you talked about 4 years ago in a Q&A. Would love to rock out to nothing but Pete Cotrell songs while working. Right now I'm stuck with FFDP Slipknot and Leo with Frog Leaps.
Unfortunately not as I don't use a DI box while recording. You can run the guitar DI signal straight into your interface though and it should be okay. Thanks for watching! :)
I know it may not be your style, but, for next time (I hope you come up with more of these), what about Will Swan from Dance Gavin Dance? He writes such cool riffs!
subbed, i always wanted to learn guitar can a bit.. but mind blown cus.. In theory.. yea I could actually just learn 20 different songs, ofc its gonna take time but, which each song new skills will be acquired
In the beginning of the video i knew that Chuck Schuldiner would be in the video but he is! He was such an amazing guitarist/Singer! Outside of the Death Metal Szene Chuck Schuldiner is verry overlooked!
I feel like this video is, apart from being entertaining, also going to serve as an interesting study into how much similarity it takes for something to be copyright claimed.
I'm surprised there's no Malmsteen. Maybe if you do this again consider him, Timo Tolkki, and Skwisgaar Skwigelf. :D Also, I'm sure there are plenty of 70s guitarists to add as well. Steve Howe, David Gilmour, Tony Iommi, Tom Scholz, Tommy Shaw, etc.
Who should I do next? :)
maybe some metalcore and nu metal guitarists
50 shades of ska
or deathcore
Will Swan!
Next time I need some Buz Mcgrath or Ken Susi!
This is incredible haha
You are correct.
Andrew 'Downtune' Baena! :)
ok
playing a Mark Holcomb sig and not even including a Mark Holcom part ? come on Pete ! haha, great vid btw ;)
Next time! Thanks for watching! :)
@@peteplaysmusic I will check if you keep your word ;)
Discount Battery being followed by discount Enter Sandman straight into discount Holy Wars was just *chefs kiss*
i read it as 1 guy 20 GUITARS thought pete was gonna flex some new gear
Maybe I’ll do this one day lol. Thanks for watching! :)
I feel like you can turn this into a series, so many recognisable guitarists out there. Good stuff, Pete!
O man you even did chuck .. the grandfather of death metal 🤘
Chuck is awesome! :)
@@peteplaysmusic chuck was so far ahead of his time.. I still throw on old death albums just to listen to the master once in awhile
Seriously awesome to see Chuck love \m/
Yes. More Chuck schuldiner please. Man had mad riff and solo skills. He's probably my primary inspiration when sit down and write the heavy riffs.
Wait, is that last song actually known to cause de-monetization? That's hilarious.
Indeed it is. Thanks for watching! :)

That was so funny! Two chords, and then the foghorn and that splendid facial expression!
The video comparison we needed
I can't get enough of these 👍
Thanks for watching! :)
Beautiful Holcomb guitar! Mark Holcomb and the entire Periphery crew are beasts. Great work by the way!
A masterclass in how to rip someone off without being completely obvious lol.
Also to monetise one's videos while not getting copyright struck.
What's even cooler is showing how versatile a 7 string can be!
I've been watching you since the first shred wars you did with Jared Dines!! That's also when I started playing guitar, you're a great inspiration. Keep up the good work!
I'm really really digging that Mark Holcombe SE.
It’s an awesome guitar! Thanks for watching! :)
@@peteplaysmusic Thanks for the awesome content man. You're hands down my favorite TH-cam guitarist.
Spectacular 7strings PRS!!
It’s an awesome guitar! :)
@@peteplaysmusic I do love PRS too. great styles in your latest video, Chuck’s was amazing!! thank you!

1 guy 20 youtube guitarists next! (Angel Vivaldi, Jared dines, Stevie t, uncle Ben, etc.)
Straight and to the point in this one ah? haha great as ever :D
What about the two lovely gentlemen from slipknot? Jimmy roof and Mike Thomas
And that one guy from nirvana.. Kurt Corbyn
That demonetised bit at the end threw me off hard man
Michael Amott and no Bill Steer?? We need him in the sequel to this
Bill is awesome so maybe next time! :)
Dude that was awesome!!!! As I thought no Chuck??? You pulled him out rock on man great job.
Mighty fine Mark Holcomb signature you have there. Looking to get the 7-string with the burst. Great video!
Thanks! It is indeed a great guitar. I’d love to see an 8 string version sometime too! :)
awesome job man! I love this
Wonderful video! 🤘🏽🔥
This was awesome! Part 2 should have John Petrucci, B.B. King, and Tim Henson.
Great use of the 7 string
That was Great!🤘
When I read the title, I misread it as "20 guitars," so I expected to see each song with a different guitar.
These are awesome, keep them coming! 😂👍🏽🙌🏽❤️
What's the riff from Soulfly?
Maybe I missed a run down of your signal chain, but I sure would like to get it. It chugs!
Did you change the pickups in this MH PRS? If so, what are they now?
Do a part 2
cool, what did you use for tone here? I really like Blackmore`s first 2 power chords tone! Is that Peavey?
Love it Pete!
Thanks for watching! :)

dave mustaine was so short, i demand an entire video
Dimebag too! :)
Michael Amott finally gets some love!
Not sure if I've ever seen a 7 string PRS before, it's sick.
They've made a handful but I think this is the best so far! It's the Mark Holcomb signature model. Thanks for watching! :)
Man, even after 20 years of playing, I'm still not even close to being as good as Pete
I've been playing for 20 years, too, and still kind of terrible.
Probably because I've only ever practised for like 5 minutes. Total.

Brent Hinds/Bill Kelliher and Paul and Dustie from BTBAM. Maybe Joe from Gojira

No Syn :'(
