As long as you come back and hike the missing portions, you've done the AT. Doesn't all need to be done in one go.

For all the comments are trying to belittle her journey, why does it matter to you? She can do whatever she wants and you hike it the way you want. What good does it do to put comments like that? At least she is being honest, first with herself and then with her followers. Is her style my style? No. Does it matter? No. Stop comparing yourself to others and just keep it to yourself if you don't have meaningful comments that contribute. Critisism is fine, being mean is not. I hiked enough miles in my thru hiking "career" that allows me to judge probably 99.9% of hikers out there. I just know better and I don't care much about doing that. It is better to help out a novice and encourage them (her) instead of thrashing. Get over yourself, you're not that unique, many thousands of people thru hiked the AT, you're just one of many, not some kind of an expert. Geesh...

Spanish moss is limited to the Southeast coast, from the Carolinas southward. It is a bromeliad, related to the pineapple. What you are seeing is a species of fruticose lichen. Marvelous video!

For me the Wildcats were the hardest section of the entire AT. Southern ME was almost equally as challenging. If you're worried about running out of time to summit Katahdin it might make sense to flip ahead. IMO Katahdin is the most difficult climb on the AT. Whatever you decide I hope you enjoy yourself to the fullest. ME is spectacular - the 100-mile wilderness is amazing!

The Carters are fun. I just had lunch with Fib, Hot Hands and Nemo on a beautiful rock between Middle and North Carter last Saturday, the 17th.
You are making smart decisions! Happy trails 👣

What an amazing couple of days on-trail.
The overcast skies, and the gnarly mossy landscape, sure gave it a spooky vibe.
The time spent in town looks very sweet, indeed.
Wishing you continued good fortune, and good health.
    Rock On

Hello, Honeybee. Go! Go! Go! I enjoy your vlogs and hope you make it in good fashion to Katahdin.
Since 2007, I've section hiked from Springer to the James River Footbridge, near Glasgow, VA. I've only missed one stretch, and that was accidental, as I missed a trail turn and walked a gravel road a short distance near Davenport Gap. That I missed it doesn't mean a thing. I'll never through hike, but I wish I could. But based upon some of the comments posted here, if being a thru hiker turns folks into snarky snobby critics, I'd prefer not to join the ranks. (But I know most thru hikers are really nice folks, just like you.)

Know you are under time pressure to get through Maine, but take it easy. The climbs can be hard. You have time, if you keep plugging along. You can do this. Enjoy the journey. It will be over before you know it.

This is your hike. If you started at Springer and end in Katahdin you are a thru hiker. It doesn't make a difference if you zigged back and forth on this journey. Your still hiking the Appalachian Trail. That is a lot of hiking. Enjoy your journey. Your free. Do it your way.👍

So are you adding the Wildcats to your list of sections to go back and finish after Katahdin along with that post-Covid section by Carlisle PA or are you just hiking your own hike from now on and giving up on the thru hike scenario in favor of safety and timing ? I respect you either way. Safety should always be a top consideration.
