I just successfully removed the damaged stripes on my mini countryman using Ben's method above and I am happy to report that it worked perfectly! My car is only 3 years old (2018) so I had no problems with colour variation. I used a hairdryer with a nozzle instead of a hot air gun but the hairdryer did exactly the same job so I'm a very happy lady! :)
Just sold my R56 and took it to car wash. They broke my stripes with the jet wash. 🤬 Thankfully it’s a company buying it, so will remove them, they’ve not yet seen the car. Looks really easy and can give it a good polish after to remove any colour change. Thanks for sharing this. You’ve saved me an evening of stress! Believe it or not, I’ve an r50 and the original stripes are still in perfect condition!
Wow. Completely different look without the stripes. I have just been looking at one in the same grey colour but black center stripes with red pinstripe. The stripes were putting me off bu this changes things. You answered the question I Googled! Thanks.
Hello from México! 👏🏻 really nice video, I’m about to buy a countryman but it has stripes, I was thinking about taking it off but wasn’t sure because of the risk of the color difference, now I see there is no risk at all, thank you for the video bro. And yes I believe it looks better without the stripes 💃🏻
My mini is a 2008 and the stripes are old and cracking slightly. Rather than removing them and risking damaging the paint someone suggested putting new stripe decals over them. What do you think of this approach?
Hello Ben, do you know why mini coopers on cold start up always bunch of smoke are pulled out, I was I had a problem with my mini, but waching your video looks is something regular for all.... Greetings from Mexico
I really want to do this to my car but worried about the same things as you really, it's a 5 year old car so not sure how it would turn out. It's also Electric blue so might be more noticeable than yours.
The residual marks on mine have completely gone now. It’s something I’d recommend but it’s just you won’t know for sure the damage until you’ve removed them. But a machine polish will get the marks out!

Ben, you are my go-to source for MINI DIY. Thanks for these videos.
Thanks for the kind words 😁

I think it looks so much better now 👏🏻
Thank you ☺️☺️
Nice video! Quick tip in future heat the vinyl on the top side as it makes it much easier to remove 👍
Thank you for the tip 😁😁😁
Nice work.. Having to remove mine because one was damaged in a car wash
I have a quicker way. I have just done mine so it defo works. Just use hot kettle water. Don’t let it boil fully. Took me 2 mins to take them off.

Hey! Si le quitaste las franjas? Cómo te fue?
Thank you for making this video! I have a 4 door, same color as this one. The stripes are horrible. I am inspired to remove them myself.

Hey buddy Thanks for this. I have an older k56 2012 JCW and needs new stripes. This will save me a fortune
No worries! Should be the same process, just polish after to reduce any blemishes
Love how long it took him to work out he was burning his hand 😂
Love the colour of your car ❤
Nice one Ben, was nervous at attempting this, not now
Thank you! Main thing I’d advise is just to take your time and use enough heat to soften the adhesive.
Looks great! I think i’m gonna pull the trigger on my 2011 BRG too, a little scared but lets see how it goes!
Definitely worth it, just go slow and use heat. Hopefully any remaining marks can polish out.
You scare me each time that heat gun appears😳👍
Thank you for this. Going to do on my 2020. Kinda stressing about it. Wish me luck.
Good luck ☺️
@@BenRolfe done! Easy as pie. Heated them first and no glue residue. A little buff and like new.

Hey 👋 if I’m honest I don’t know, mine does it as well as my friends, theirs do it too. Must be something that happens to them all
Hi, can you do a video on how to install the driving lights (rally spotlights) on the front grille?
What year is that one? I love it
Hey 👋 it’s a 2016 Cooper S 😁
@@BenRolfeI might have built your mini Ben.

Can I use a blow dryer instead
You can indeed!
Excellent job ! …
Looks slower now. Go faster strips gone 🤷♂️
