I think I would take a little more from this information. 1. A lot of all biome content and assets are seen by the developers as "Needing to be completed before Alpha2", because it is functional tall content, rather than wide content. 2. There is a lot more function content in biomes on a functional gameplay perspective than we thought, meaning that Freeholds on tundra will function differently to Freeholds on Forest. Put these two together and you get a couple of interesting ideas. First the game may be much further along than we anticipated as each biome has to be 60%+ wide before Alpha2, even if we don't see it in Alpha2. Second, the game may not be balanced even by group. There could be a rock, paper, scissors game going by biome, and better biome combinations. Something that will reward team play even more.
Those are some severely copium-infused fever dream musings if I've ever seen them. 1 does not entail 2. 1 entails that he developers would like 2 to be true by the start of Alpha 2. And that's all it entails. And it doesn't even truly mean that, because for all we know what Steven means when he says "60% complete by alpha 2" could be "60% complete for the seasons that will be played in Alpha 2", meaning only 25-50% of that 60% wide or tall game design will actually have to be completed for Alpha 2. That's not to say I don't think the game can't somewhat exceed those expectations by Q3 2024. It also doesn't mean that I don't think the game will launch or receive the details needed to constitute a good game. I just don't think any of what you're hearing is the evidence, or even just the promise, you think it is for what you're imagining.
@@TheHadMatters Well nothing about this project really makes me think that Steven doesn't know what he is doing as a project manager. It would be very foolish to go into Alpha2 before all the base functional components were complete. That means that any bug in functional content would entail a rewrite of all assets and classes that depend on it. I don't see why he would do that. I worked in IT for 35 years, you just don't start building wide, until you have finished the engine/functionality. that is how you end up with a failed project. In business it happens all the time due to business requirements changing mid project, but here, they have fixed requirements. There is no excuse for that level of incompetence. "Functionality" has a more specific meaning when used technically. I was just recognizing that If every biome has its 60% unique functional component finished before Alpha2, then every biome is going to have a certain number of assets and end classes, within that biome, completed to test them.
@@TheToledoTrumpton It's not about whether he knows what he's doing, it's about how far he is willing to bend the truth in order to keep up appearances. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing for the end result, it might just be necessary to manage expectations and unavoidable hype. In practice all that means is I think Alpha won't take the game as close to launch as people hope, especially not the beginning of it, and there will be major breaks between Alpha testing stages. And yes, I do think their engine and system can handle what they have in mind, but it's a stretch to call the game "further along than anticipated" because of that. Having the engine and systems in place would be the bare minimum expected at this point. Just because some games failed on the fundamentals this far into development doesn't mean meeting the foundations makes the game ahead of its schedule. The big dev time sinks will still be level-building and content design.
If by functionality you mean what you initially called wide development, again, my original comment applies. They don't need the full map to be designed in all 2-4 seasons in order to test the level design and quests and mob encounters in one season. The difference to Alpha 1 will mostly be testing more world reactivity, and gradually adding seasons and biomes.
You can't really judge the progress of a game's development based solely on how many assets they've churned out. Creating assets is one thing, animating, coding, optimizing and balancing them to function in the game is another. Most games have a ton of assets that end up getting cut because there isn't enough time to incorporate them or they just don't add enough to the game to justify the time. Ashes will be no different.
Good job on pulling all the assets and image art into this. The BIOMs are starting to look outstanding. The Red Wood Forest and Jundar concept art look amazing. The Jungle needs to be denser. I would rather it make you feel like you are in the Amazon, Costa Rica's, Avatar-like jungles. It needs to be hard to traverse due to its nature. GW2 did a great job with its Jungle zones. You have massive elevation in the maps. It made exploration and the ability to get from point to point challenging. It was a good game zone design. I also hope we see a very dense variety of creature assets. Animal, Monster, and race-based. 2-4 seasons should have a large balance of different assets. Also, mini-boss mobs, a variety of epic boss mobs with some seasonal world bosses. Rare mobs both event-driven and seasonal. The Lava concept art in the Volcano region and its impact on the land looks amazing. I cannot wait for the underworld and Ocean assets to be fully flushed out. Having underwater adventures would be amazing. GW2 and Wow had a lot of fun underwater content, but Ashes should take this to a new level. With sunken cities, dungeons shipwrecks, and empires under the sea. Imagine having a sea race to choose from at some point. This was a good video; I am looking forward to Ashes' ability to nail world immersion and diversity of content.
Let’s be honest, about weather. Does the weather affect every zone, something for south could get cold and. Maybe snowing occasionally without staying around.
I think we'll get the Jundark before we see the Tropics, as the latter requires a proper naval system before we can really enjoy that. And I don't think that will be there when A2 goes live
I know i heard that i though of NERC and i was like mmmm they have the assets developed but are they all placed are any of the biomes placed at all or just completed assest planed to be placed then they think up the more content they want to adevelop story wise into those biomes
what defines wasting your time mate? Do you consider clicking on a video for a game that doesn't exist, a waste of time? do you consider discussion pieces related to the philosphy of open development a waste of time? do you consider clips from the stream that people find interesting a waste of time? This is the content I make and I have made this for 3 years now. I do not exclusively make videos for you and the type of audience who have a toxic obsession with a pre-alpha game. Why do you consistantly complain about the content I make and consider it a waste of time or "clickbait"? please fuck off and stop forcing your extremely selfish view of my content on all my media channels... thanks
*Alpha2/B1/B2 combined will take at least a year, and the game will launch with at least 3 years of Content.* *So that's a 5 year head start on Content, give or take. You did miss a few Biomes...the Oceans and Deep Seas!*
Thats what im expecting to see with A2 aswell seems like they been working there way up from the bottom of the western continent and working there way up to the top,.
probably, but not 100%. Keep in mind the the price to buy into alpha two is pretty steep and most people who are following the development will not fork over that kind of money.
i hope the lore is going to be good, but I just feel like its going to be a mess. can they just get really good well paid writers. idk from BG3 or something like that?
TBH, I think this "living breathing world" feeling and some content too complex and an waste of resources, people will ignore completely when this game come out.
They should wait until after release to introduce the different seasons for each biome. A solid and polished game with only one season > A rushed mess with too much fluff
Why donate 10k? I don't understand the logic there. In order to donate that much, you would have had to donate a big chunk in the kick starter and then purchase every cosmetic pack offered. It's awesome that you support the game, but that seams more like a flex than a complaint tbh.
was hoping for q4 2026 release date but i am more and more sure that the game will not come out before end of 2027 or somewhere in 2028 😐😥 When Interpid finish and put in all planed content, they will need at least 1 year of bug fixing and polishing, so still long road ahead.. I wish they only show 1-3 biomes. I don't want everything to be shown before launch in 2039
Doesn't look like a game which is going to be released in 2039.

Can you only play alpha 2 if you preordered? Will there be a way to gain access to alpha 2 in the future?
There will be give-aways during official streams, and "pre-order/donation" packs will probably be available for purchase again, during or after A2.
