Set in Toronto, Rookie Blue follows the lives of five rookie police officers from fictional 15 Division who have just graduated from the academy. The officers must learn to deal with not only their duties as police officers, but also the problems and expectations of family, friends, and romantic attachments at the office. They are first responders who are about to learn that no amount of training prepares you for life.
"To serve, protect, and..." is usually used in the parade room before shift starts by the officer leading the parade. It always has a significant meaning in the context of the episode plot. More often than not, however, they use "to serve, protect, and don't screw up".
Rookie Blue has been described as the Grey's Anatomy of the world of rookie cops.

So the uniforms are pretty spot on for Toronto Police. For some very complicated copyright reasons that are beyond my comprehension they don’t actually use the TPS logo but it’s mostly accurate. Only nitpick is vests should have the word “Police” on them

In Berlin (Germany) we have the annual "May 1st Demo" which for several years tended to escalate at late afternoon/ early evening.
I once witnessed the police blocking a certain hotspot at a certain time and no one was allowed to enter/ pass anymore.
There was that one snowflake with a bicycle who, for some reason, thought he´d be the one person that HAS to get through there...
He was arguing for 20 minutes straight why he was so special... Kudos to the cop, he stayed very calm, kept a straight face and mostly
ignored the person watching the perimeter, occasionally nodding, saying "mhm" and "no, sorry" and that´s it.
I don´t know how long that went on, I changed the spot after a while :)
That scenario definitely plays itself out 100 times a day across the world in policing. Good on that officer for being a professional and not needlessly escalating the situation despite how big of a pain in the ass that person was being.
The person wearing the red coat or more accurately the coat itself aa the friend was the target. The kid found the gun as if was dropped by the shooter as it jammed.
If you see this I'd be interested in you seeing more of the show. The seasons aren't very long about a dozen episodes if i recall as it aired during the summer

Simply running laps around campus where my academy was, I was tired, closed my eyes and got reamed for closing my eyes. Good practice that scanning.

They end up getting disciplinary action for their relationship later in the show. A bit was cut out of this video, and the show does tend to jump around and skip formalities to get to the drama

IIRC their staff sgt ent them there i assume to help keep things calm as a lot more wristbands were issued than should've been. So a lot of ppl were not getting in. Not sure if this is something they would actually be doing. Thought pist this in case ppl need some context
This is a Canadian show based in ontario, in the largest city of Toronto that usually has less than 100 homicides a year. In one of the First episodes McNally uses her firearm and shoot somebody, and the Ontario special investigations unit makes an appearance, the special investigation unit is a civilian oversight group that strictly investigates police interaction where the officer might have committed a crime if it falls in their mandate. Such as assault, sexual abuse or harassment, discharge of a firearm at a person or a vehicle, realistically in this situation those officers aiming their firearms into the crowd would have constituted grounds for an SIU investigation. negligence of with a firearm or something. This detective constable, should not have interviewed McNally until she had at least been checked over by a paramedic and cleared

The reason the cops in the first clip dont have the same high resistance vests is because in Canada its a lot less likely your going to face a shooter as far less people have guns so they only need stab vests

5:05 that´s what I´m doing just naturally when ever I move or stay in a crowded area... I´m not a cop or anything mind you...
Well, I wanted to be as a kid, but I didn´t quite reach the minumum height that was the rule back then (got softened, but too late for me :P)
It's a pretty good habit to have, better to avoid to prevent issues before they arise.
I wore the same vests as a security guard, the plates are pretty small
They seemed pretty small. What were they rated for?
@@OnlyCops not really sure they never told us even though I asked. But I doubt they're rated more much more.than a .22. The plate in the front was small barely covering your heart and was maybe 1/8 of an inch think. The one in the back was a bit bigger. Apparently at the time only one place in Canada made vests and these type were the only ones they'd make for non police agencies. You'd order one fitted to you and it would take a year to come and be made so poorly. I ended up wear a men's best cuz I was much more comfortable that the crappy women's one where the plates were even smaller.
Canadian Police do have ballistic vests, and most cops don't look like these guys, so I'm assuming this is supposed to be either a department with a relatively low budget or its sometime between 2000 and 2010.

To be fair the girl in the red jacket was actually targeted the jacket was the friends who was around the corner getting the coffee and she gave her friend her jacket while she went to get it
Basically an ex boyfriend tried to off his girlfriend but got her friend instead and the female officer was just a unlucky hit
But the other officers do think itbwas targeting the police for mistbof the episode

Hes her TO and theyre half hooked up after she killed someone. Theyve played feelings back and forth, that guy with the gun just found it, and the blond detective ends up being the ex of her bf, who he cheats on her with. Then the to and rook end up married at theend of the series

I know your comments regarding personal carry are for your jurisdiction and I wouldn't expect anything else, but since this is a Canadian show it's worth noting that the gun laws are VERY different. It is legal to own a pistol but the only way to legally carry one is if you have an occupational need and get a permit. Rifles are a bit looser, but still need either a hunting permit or a wilderness safety permit and aren't legal in cities except at shooting ranges. So the simple fact that the guy in this has a pistol is immediately an issue.
All this said, Rookie Blue is a relationship heavy show. If you want to see a Canadian police drama with the emphasis on policing, check out Flashpoint (2008-2012). It follows a fictional tactical unit based on Toronto's Emergency Response Team which is an RCMP (federal) group that "resolves extremely high-risk situations".
I recommend watching "One Wrong Move" (season 2 episode 14) since it's one of the higher rated episodes, but the show remained consistently good throughout its 5 seasons.

Thanks for the legal clarification! I'm not as familiar with Canadian law and love seeing comments like these 😊 mere possession is an often in most states for minors of any firearm and in some states they are much more strict about what pistols or rifles you can own.

I have to tell you that Toronto has had a high of 85 homicides in 2021 that is two weekends in Chicago.
They should have moved her out of the area while the other cops looked for the shooter. Very unprofessional.
