- Unfortunately, some penguin chicks can be abandoned by their parents - more often than not, another penguin mother - typically without a chick of her own, will adopt it, but before she does she might have some rivals.

Shivering chick abandoned really breaks the heart.
"Females will often fight over orphaned chicks..:
me : awwwww
"..and almost all abandoned chicks, are abandoned again.."
me : aww, shit.
*here we go again
Yeah, that sucks....
I mean.... if chicks are in high demand, maybe they're abandoned during each switch-off, then re-adopted by another penguin that can't find its mate? I hope. :-/
I don't understand why they fight for them if they're just going to abandon them again? Because they get bored or something?
@@CylindricalWhistle
Maternal instinct. They don’t realize they won’t be able to care for them
I wish the females were smart enough to foster the baby together. One could get food while the other held it.
I wish attracting mates was as easy as making motorcycle noises 😔
I mean....kinda is. LoL
@@justcallmejessz3712 no way man. I’d be like a elephant seal holding his beach patch down if that were the case. Two stroke. Four stroke. NASCAR. It never mattered lol
@@greatexchange7310 did you have a stroke?
@@gaboelmexicano3125 yea totally yes
Nah motorcycles copied pinguin noises
Poor baby penguin. I can't watch things like this. I know it's part of the natural process, but it hurts my heart. I want to take each baby and protect it, feed it, raise it to adulthood. I can't help feeling that way, even though I know it's unrealistic. Poor penguins.💕🐧💕
You’ve got a good heart ✨
If only human mothers were fighting each other over who could take care of the kids. Well I guess they do sometimes..
Then you remember a disgusting foul overconfident hairless ape is melting the ice and soon these birds seals and whales will have to abandon the artics unless action is taken
you can take me in :)
It's how the 'natural selection' part of evolution works - the only chicks that survive are progeny of pairs that were both good enough at not getting eaten. Sad for the individuals that don't make it, but that's how it is. Nobody said evolution was pretty, or even fair; it's just true, that's all.
P.S. If you didn't like this, don't look up what shoebill chicks do.
3:06 those seals making hole by grazing their teeth on the ice got my sensitive teeth triggered i can't even bites ice-cream without making faces
I can't even drink cold water
Me: **eats ice cube**
I won't lie, this had me cracking up watching that seal go at that ice
Abandoned chick: I need a new mom!
5 female penguins: YOU'RE *MINE*
Abandoned chick: WAIT- LEAVE ME ABANDONED AGAIN
@Drip Goku oof-

So incredible sense of motherhood among penguin species

This was mostly about fathers because they starved themselves to keep the baby safe 😂

0:41 too cute
0:53 What in the world... Is that the way they reunite. I must try this out with my cousin after Quarantine.
Are you from Alabama by any chance
It’s like Happy Feet all over again for me!!!
right?? especially when they shows the shrimps under the ice. reminds me of that "under pressure" song scene
Admirable life, admirable job to capture this magnificent natural and marvelous landscapes
Not enough credit goes to the people who actually film this. Out in the cold for how long thank you for all your dedicated work
Despite everything, if I was out on the ice and saw an abandoned penguin, you bet your ass I'd rush over, scoop it up, put it under my coat and take it back to base. My instinct to protect is very strong, especially for birds. I currently have 5 rescue pigeons, two of which were abandoned chicks I hand raised
My mum is the same 😭
Amazing creatures. When I see them, my good feelings raise and raise.
Right! Mother Nature can be really amazing!
I would kill to have a job like this!
do not kill
Just get a diploma in Zoology. It takes more time but at least everyone gets to keep their lives and it's usually more effective 😄
jxde Yeah, sure. You realize how hard and physically demanding it is? What toll will it have on you? If you do - then go do something about it instead of writing these cheap-ass cringe comments. Go on!

Crazy how easy it is to see how innate the sense for love and caring is :)

The penguin chicks are really cute😁
So cccooolllddd! ❄️🥶❄️
I wonder if there have been cases of orphaned chicks surviving onto adulthood from one mother to another?
Creative B. - I don't know more than you do from having watched this, but the suggestion is that they don't. It would seem the parents tag-team chick care so one looks after chick while the other hunts. If one parent gets eaten, it doesn't come back to relieve the other, who then has to abandon the chick to get food itself.
It would seem this also applies to adoptive parents who would also have to get food at some point - of course neither I, you, nor even the makers of this documentary can know it NEVER happened....so maybe! Just maybe!
Odds are pretty good considering how long these chonky birds have been around.
@@K1lostream I assume that even if it’s insanely rare, an orphan can get raised by a mother and father they very recently lost a chick im sure it’s very rare but has happened
GOATmaro - I don't know what you are basing that assumption on, but it would be nice to think that it is so.
@@K1lostream i saw another docu where a couple lost their chick. Like you said, abandoned chicks are more likely because the mate got eaten by preds either orcas or seals and the surviving partner will be forced to leave the chick behind. But if it's a couple who lost their chick, it's more likely a possibility that either abandoned or kidnapped chick will be fostered by another.
Thanks to make this video I like animals good videos thank you so much from Somalia 🇸🇴

If they were smart, the females without mates would share the abandoned chicks in pairs of 2. One female acts like the father, the other like the mother.

Cute
Fighting over to adopt an abandoned chick.. something some species can learn from. Yep, the one that's reading this. 😑
Factual Shit
Too real
Not really. The chick often dies amidst all the fighting over it. All the mothers care about is their overpowering instinct to take care of a baby.
The chick was still abandoned I'm sure there's a better example though
But the chicks end up abandoned again
I wish I can do something about climate change though :'( poor penguins
