Thank you for showing how to spin across the top so clearly. I started spinning recently and was struggling with spinning across the top. I’ve watched multiple videos, but all I ever heard was that the hand holding the fibre supply was “doing all the work”, without really clearly showing what was happening or explaining it clearly. So far, I’m managing short forward draw and long draw reasonably well, but I’ve been gifted a gorgeous gradient braid. I want to keep the gradient intact and as long and gradual as possible, in order to knit a lace gradient half pi shawl with it. The gradient goes from dark blue to white and I have extra white fibre I can use to knit a knitted on lace border, which means I can just keep on knitting until I run out of yarn, and then do the border. Now I can start practicing without fear of messing up too much fibre and then I’ll be able to open up that braid…
Unfortunately, I have not tried spinning yet, but I would love to have updates on your spinning team (if you are able to get a team together)- it sounds like fun! & I love fiber videos as well as book crafts - although I am having to catch up on videos because work has been so busy! :(
Hi Stephanie, You mentioned in your "How to Spin a Gradient Yarn" getting together a team for "Tour de Fleece". Are you still getting a team together for 2024? You also mentioned having a LIVE spin together on Tuesdays. Are you doing the Lives? thanks
in the beginning, I had trouble moving left to right so I would flip my fiber over so it was always right to left until I got used to it. Depending on the type of fiber I still have to flip it sometimes.
Hello Stephanie I had to send the photo through Facebook...I am a newbie Spinner I got my Ashford Kiwi 3 in December and took a running jump down the Rabbit Hole and still sliding and I Love Spinning.
Its right up there with rubbing your head and patting your tummy (something I have yet to master 😆)! That it a beautiful bit of fiber though. Sign me up for the tour, I think it would be great fun.
