Don't know... I bought a Mate 10 pro yesterday, and the battery is the worst i've ever seen. (At least I didn't expect that...) With android 9, the battery every 3-4 minutes decrease 1%, and i don't have to do anything. I mean really... ANYTHING, just turn on the display and thats all.

Just an observation: In your first instagram test, all the phones show different images/videos, and the iphone had far fewer animations running compared to the other 3 phones. That best explains why it used the least amount of power during that initial segment, not because of "efficiency". Apple has good standby power usage, and the bare bones launcher without any widgets also cuts down on energy usage during day-to-day use. That being said, Apple's lead in optimization from years ago is now miniscule. If you test app by app, you will get varying results depending on the developer, but on average the apps are roughly equal in optimizations (i.e. speed and smoothness of the apps). The iPhone's area of superiority in recent years is the hardware. Aesthetics aside, their CPU/SoCs smoke what Qualcomm offers.
Benjamin Ong Hardware might be misleading, it's really, as you alluded to, the CPU/SOC that they lead in... That only really seems to show in game loading, as most small apps seem to load faster on android ATM.
Nah. As an iPhone user, I can definitely confirm that the battery drain increases as it approaches 0. Either this is because the percentage shown is on a curve, or because there's something else going on. 100-50% in 10 hours of work(with 3-4 hours of screen use). Get home, and I can see the 50-20 happen in another hour of use. Something definitely weird there.
There was this issue with Mate 10 Pro having battery issues due to the Google Play Services eating up all the battery and a patch was released to fix that. I wish to check with Mrwhosetheboss if he knows this issue and if he has patched it because another reviewer reported to have 3.5 SOT after 55%, so I'm just checking with you. If it's not patched, maybe you can try patching it then run this test again, because people seem to forget that this is not final software and will find any reason to bash a phone. One Plus 5 seems to have really good battery life going on though.

super Singh Have u not seen the screen resolution of Note 8 and oneplus 5. Oneplus 5 cloud not compare with note 8 in terms of display and features. Even no smartphone in the markets which can be compared with note 8. So stop comparison any smartphone with note 8.

Bayu Murti If you want to see how good the phone is actually doing for each of these models it’s better to do the math and find out how many minutes each milliamp per battery is getting because these are all different size batteries so to find out how much time it’s actually getting per battery it’s much easier to tell cause then you can estimate how long each would last on the same size battery so in raw specs iPhone got 0.10min per mha, one plus got 0.10mins per mha,note 8 got 0.08mins per mha and mate got 0.07mins per mha, so let’s say they all had a 4000mha battery they should each get iphone 410mins/6.7hrs,one plus 410mins/6.7hrs,note 8 320mins/5.2hrs and mate phone 280mins/4.6hrs so if they all had the same battery the iPhone and one plus would actually get longer battery life and mate would actually be the shortest despite having the biggest battery

Software Optimizations make much of a difference. iOS 11 beta was draining battery like hell out of my iPhone 6 Plus. So much so that it died after just 3 hours. After the final update, it gives 6 hours. 200% increase right there. There was already a test of iPhones and OnePlus and Note 8. What was the point of this video if Mate 10 wasn't in its final form?

Edy Karniawan Tunreng it will definitely improve it. They do a lot of optimisations before making the software final. Last year some TH-camrs made similar battery drain tests for Mate 9 and in those it didn't even make 4 hours SoT. I have a Mate 9 and it easily gives over 6 hours of screen on time and that's with heavy usage Along with the 16nm Kirin 960. You'll definitely get more with the 10nm Kirin 970
Ok thanks for replying. That calm me abit. Going back and forth between OP5 and Mate10. And finally picked Mate10 because of some of the useful features and battery capacity. Hoping that the battery performance in this device is good as its been hype for since i considered myself quite a heavy usage user(mobile gaming).
Edy Karniawan Tunreng bro don't worry huawei phones are usually really bad in battery tests, my friend's with mate 9s get really long battery life like around 6hrs screen on time while in battery test they lost to a lot of phones, oneplus maybe seem like the battery king here but in real life the standby drain in oneplus is more than samsung and huawei, daily usage is diff from these tests, oneplus 5 normally will only get about 4 to 5 hrs screen on time like note 8, im using the oneplus 2 , the os standby drain is horrible that i changed to a custom ROM, oxygen os is good when u have a continuous usage, mate 10 will surely have a good battery life go for it!
A Correct and balanced battery with optimized software means less risky for the phone circuits to get fried with more durability. Improper battery scaling, unoptimized software along with a high-spec hardware tends to drain much more energy plus in the future durability damaging the hardware internals or worse.
Note 8 isn't the best fit in this comparison - it's a different type of device, with a smaller battery because of the S pen. Consider S8 / S8+ instead.

Yes! Very nice way of testing the battery life, i wish every test was like this. Thank you! Anyway, for all phones, 4 hours of screen on time is a decente performance, if you work usually you don't have time to look at your phone that much before arriving home. Just for the sake of comparison, i have a iphone SE and yesterday i was at 5 hours and it still had 34% of battery life.
Software optimization is the key, second is screen type, third battery capacity. You were comparing apples and oranges there. Apple is very well known for software optimization. Oneplus 5 have 8gigabytes of RAM, Battery type is Li-Po, the flatscreen is 5.5, no curve small than others. That's why oneplus 5 can last longer battery life.
Huawei is probably using an amoled panel that is a generation (or two) behind on samsung's; I've noticed it's hard for companies other than samsung to get a hold of quality panels. Non-samsung amoleds tend to perform poorly on color accuracy benchmarks too. Another reason (among many) to favor the non-pro mate 10 version.

Same issue with my OnePlus 3T. I've always struggled to get over 3.5 hours SoT, even after installing LineageOS and using battery saving apps. There's an issue with some OnePlus phones where background tasks are constantly hogging the CPU draining the battery fast even when not in use.

My boyfriend still uses his Oneplus 5 and still gets great battery life out of it and it´s June 2019!! i have a 10 Mate Pro which has 50% left after a day of quite heavy video watching etc and I´ve had it for 9 months and it runs faster now after all updates. (We´re not gaming on our phones though).
The Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro has 5000mah battery. The first 2 weeks of usage, you could actually see a huge amount of update activity going on and that was constantly draining out the battery and my the other phone, the A7 2016 was performing far better. But then, things started to change after week 3. The A9 pro battery consumption somehow started showing drastic improvements and refuse to go dead on me even right after 2 days (more than 48 hrs) of usage. An excellent built firmware is what makes every single part of the phone function beautifully and that's what 1+ and Note 8 manage to achieve. Huawei is taking its sweet time and I don't mind that at all.

Note 8 isn't the best fit in this comparison - it's a different type of device, with a smaller battery because of the S pen. Consider S8 / S8+ instead.

Raja Rajpal If you want to see how good the phone is actually doing for each of these models it’s better to do the math and find out how many minutes each milliamp per battery is getting because these are all different size batteries so to find out how much time it’s actually getting per battery it’s much easier to tell cause then you can estimate how long each would last on the same size battery so in raw specs iPhone got 0.10min per mha, one plus got 0.10mins per mha,note 8 got 0.08mins per mha and mate got 0.07mins per mha, so let’s say they all had a 4000mha battery they should each get iphone 410mins/6.7hrs,one plus 410mins/6.7hrs,note 8 320mins/5.2hrs and mate phone 280mins/4.6hrs so if they all had the same battery the iPhone and one plus would actually get longer battery life and mate would actually be the shortest despite having the biggest battery

Huawei is probably using an amoled panel that is a generation (or two) behind on samsung's; I've noticed it's hard for companies other than samsung to get a hold of quality panels. Non-samsung amoleds tend to perform poorly on color accuracy benchmarks too. Another reason (among many) to favor the non-pro mate 10 version.

Same issue with my OnePlus 3T. I've always struggled to get over 3.5 hours SoT, even after installing LineageOS and using battery saving apps. There's an issue with some OnePlus phones where background tasks are constantly hogging the CPU draining the battery fast even when not in use.
RedDragonGamingHD wipe your one plus and don't install any apps and use the phone like that. Start introducing you apps as you need them and see how your battery life goes. There is an app there that's draining your phone. You need to isolate it. Gl

My boyfriend still uses his Oneplus 5 and still gets great battery life out of it and it´s June 2019!! i have a 10 Mate Pro which has 50% left after a day of quite heavy video watching etc and I´ve had it for 9 months and it runs faster now after all updates. (We´re not gaming on our phones though).

The Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro has 5000mah battery. The first 2 weeks of usage, you could actually see a huge amount of update activity going on and that was constantly draining out the battery and my the other phone, the A7 2016 was performing far better. But then, things started to change after week 3. The A9 pro battery consumption somehow started showing drastic improvements and refuse to go dead on me even right after 2 days (more than 48 hrs) of usage. An excellent built firmware is what makes every single part of the phone function beautifully and that's what 1+ and Note 8 manage to achieve. Huawei is taking its sweet time and I don't mind that at all.
