The sunset rug is so cheerful!! I’m enjoying the sewing content - I need to get more sewing projects going :) Of course I’m always here for the yarny goodness!!
Michael, I felt random happiness seeing you walking around in the real real at Yarncon. My husband said 'there's your guy' and I ran over, said 'I love your podcast' , we did the acknowledgement and I ran off. You were giving charm, sir. I am pleased that you didn't film and enjoyed yourself. No need to see stuff all the time. The experience is more than product. I love Yarncon. The small size is nice. It's accessible for so many people. Sidebar... the tufted rug is fab and such a good idea. I know you will be going back to that shop. Kendrick must require his own throne(unless he would tear it up)...maybe mention Yarncon to the shopkeeper and teaching a workshop... imagine all the people who would be there for that? I can dream.....
I found this podcast by going thrugh the comments section of another podcaster who had posted her favorite podcasts. There are hundreds of knitting and crafting podcasts - so I just thought I would drop in to some of the suggestions - it takes me about 15 seconds to figure out if the podcast may be interesting - yours is very good! Thanks.
Hi Michael, it was so great to meet you at yarncon. Your spinning always turns out amazing! 🥰 After seeing your completed Dotted Rays it has given me motivation to make one.
Always feeling inspired after watching an episode. Love the Dotted Rays shawl ❤️❤️❤️. As far as music goes, my favorite song right now is the Royal Otis cover of The Cranberries’ ‘Linger’.
Welcome to the world of sewing!!! You're going to love it. Do all the things! You know how yarn collecting is a different hobby/craft than knitting/crocheting.. well the same is true for fabric shopping versus sewing. My two cents: have a plan/pattern in mind for any fabric you buy. 😜 Music suggestion and something to dance to: make a playlist that starts w/ Cowboy Carter and then goes into Renaissance. Good times 🤠🪩
Yay that Traveller shawl is growing like crazy, and it looks great. The dance party idea is fantastic, I do that a few times a week because as you say if feels good and lifts us up. I have started checking out the new TS album and I am liking Beyoncé's new album. Also, the Dolly Parton with Pitbull version of 9 to 5 is very danceable and I love its salute to the single moms of the world. I am not a single mom but I have friends who are and they are superstars. I am counting down to Knit City Toronto next month. I am taking a Turkish spinning class when I go and I am excited about that.
You're so multicraftual, Michael. Sewing, now? Go, you! Great work on matching the print alignment on your apron, as someone else noted. To count your yardage after washing your handspun, if you know the length of one loop in your hank, you can just count the loops and multiply that number by the length. (To get the length of a loop, measure the thing you hank it up on - niddy noddy? Swift? Skein winder?- possibly using a piece of string or a flexible measuring tape.) I'm loving watching your spinning journey.
I kept waiting for you to send us “back to the future” after you were talking about the dotted rays shawl! 😂 I’ll be interested in hearing more about your sewing journey. That’s a craft that didn’t take for me, so I’ll cheer you on from the sidelines 😅
This deserves a LOT of "Likes". I especially love the new shawl - the blues with pinkish stripes. Gorgeous! Are you talking about the musselburough (sp) hat?? That would work really well with the red gold and variegated. Good news to hear that your elbow is healing! Yay.
To measure your handspun, lay the washed hank straight on a surface and measure the length of the loop, then double it for the full length (so if it measures 30”, the full circumference of the circle is 60” ). Then count the strands of yarn to give you the number of loops (maybe you count 100 loops). 100 x 60” is 6000” divided by 36” gives you 166 yards. All of it is approximate, but that gives you a good idea of your yardage. 😊
Love the variety of your podcast, Michael. My granddaughter turned 20 this April and I know she would adore the sunset rug. It gives off such happy vibes! Candy ( Snowbaby312)
Love your upbeat, cheerful podcast and your big smile! The crafting side of your personality seems to have no bounds. i’m glad that your shoulder injury didn’t take you out for too long. I think you’re smart to mix it up so that you don’t have a permanent injury. Sewing, rug making, spinning, a little knitting, a little crochet - have I forgotten anything? Anyways, great to hear your podcast today. Peace out.
I actually made a super cute skirt out of vertical striped men's button down shirts, I put a bit of ruffle on the bottom. I love it. Michael! Your 70s color spun skein is beautiful 😍! You're so talented. If you recall where you got the seahorse needle stoppers, please let us know! ❤
I'm loving the apron, and you having adventures in various crafting is a chef's kiss!! Maybe, in the future, you could create a single project of various crafts. I really think that you could do that and take us on the journey.
RE: measuring yardage after washing - the shrinkage/percentage varies based on fiber types. I use the Dreaming Robots Yardage Counter (it's like $60-ish) for after washing, and I think it's well worth the investment. I run my handspun through the yardage counter when I'm winding from skein to cake!
Hi Michael. That was a fun watch. Love the shawl. No wonder your friend was delighted with it. It’s always a special moment when you make something and the person wears it. I don’t spin because I feel it would take over my life but I love seeing what you have spun up and how really good it all looks. Have a good two weeks and see you soon. ❤🧶🧶
Nice haul! I picked up some beautiful handspun at YarnCon because, rudely, none of my friends have taken up spinning and given me some. No, I won't take up spinning either. I think I might weave with the handspun so I can lay it out on a table and look at it all the time. Weaving is another really fun fiber craft and no, I don't recommend taking it up! Slippery slopes are all around us fiber friends 😭 and we don't need ANY gentle pushes in any direction
Nice job on the apron! I've been sewing for 50+ years, and I'm impressed with how you lined up the pattern of the fabric, and how nice the strap ends are! Have a great week! Love your content 💜
I just got my mom’s 40 year old sewing machine repaired so I can fix hems and other little stuff. But I am now focused on making project bags and other crafty stuff too. I can’t help myself - I’m a knitter 😂🧶
Allow for 20-30% in weight for shrinkage. I weigh 2 lots 100g and add 30g for shrinkage for every 100g. I label it then after plying and washing, weigh after it has dried. Buy the yarn counter. I keep saying to hubby, when I die, surround me in my yarn stash in my coffin so my yarn goes up in flames with me.
How talented are you! The apron is lovely and the fiber that you've spun and bought is just stunning. I will have a dance party with my little boy, he’ll love it. Happy knitting 💚🧶💚
You should check out Endless Dance by Samuel Crundwelll. It is my 17 y/o son and he wrote the lyrics, and produced the single on his own. I'm very proud of him and the song is very catchy!
Music recommendation - I was just introduced to the artist Abel Selaocoe, modern cellist and vocalist. He is amazing, you've never heard anything like this before.
I am obsessed with the gorgeous sunset rug! I do want to learn tufting❤
Babe reference, iykyk.
Your fo’s are fire!
Love the sunset rug. Thanks for sharing Woolens and Nosh’s yarn each month. I love seeing Michelle’s yarn.
Your tufting projects are awesome! Love the sunset.
Thanks for being you!!😊

Another wonderful podcast. Good to know you’re back at knitting. Your spinning game is strong…..onward🧶!
I always get so excited when you are here. I love the sunset rug! I have been listening to the new Beyoncé (of course) and new Taylor!

I didn't realize how similar Chicago and DC's flags are. Now I want to copy you and make a DC flag rug!

Your handspun is incredible! I look forward to seeing what you will create with it. So awesome.
A musselburgh hat would be nice with the colors together.
When you said "Tay-Tay", I heard "Tété" this super cool French singer from the 90s and was so excited that he had a new album. Sigh.
I'm loving the apron, and you having adventures in various crafting is a chef's kiss!!
Maybe, in the future, you could create a single project of various crafts. I really think that you could do that and take us on the journey.
We came from Milwaukee today and went to Yan Con. So sad we missed you. Yes, I bought more yarn!

Love your beautiful handspun!.
Loving your music just on Spotify! Glad you’re feeling better, and loving the colorway on your Traveler!
I just got my mom’s 40 year old sewing machine repaired so I can fix hems and other little stuff. But I am now focused on making project bags and other crafty stuff too. I can’t help myself - I’m a knitter 😂🧶
Sunset! Hi from Naperville
I love good shenanigans
The tufting projects turned out great. Really loving the '70s vibe.
Hey Michael! Loving the multicraftual adventures! I love to be silly and friendly with everyone too ❤❤❤
I’m getting my Lendrum back in 2 weeks, it broke and I had a friend repair it for me. I too would use the Sunset for underneath the wheel.
love your dance party suggestion!

I love the Dotted Rays Shawl. The colors are beautiful. Love your apron. Thanks for making my day brighter.
So so a wonderful Sunday night watch 💕 😊
Your 🧦 blow my mind and the shawls WOW
Hello Michael from Swansea, Illinois.
How talented are you! The apron is lovely and the fiber that you've spun and bought is just stunning. I will have a dance party with my little boy, he’ll love it. Happy knitting 💚🧶💚
That shawl is giving!!!!
Both of them are luxxxxx

I live in Pismo Beach California where the sunsets are beautiful

I amvery proud of you for venturing out. You did a great job. Enjoyed the podcast an yes the sunset rug has some beautiful colors
As always, love the show and the sunset!
You could try the Curio Socks pattern from Andrea Mowry using the left over self stripping yarn
I wish I could have made it down to YarnCon but I had carpal tunnel surgery Thursday. I’m wondering who took up Johnny Boh’s dare😂😭😂
I measure the yds or meter on one loop and then multiply by the #of loops. Which I had already counted.
Sunset
