My thoughts are with the people of Valencia and Malaga regions. It's heartbreaking to hear how many have lost their lives and/homes.

This storm was horrific. I never ever ever want to experience anything like this in my life ever again. The rainfall and lightning was overwhelming. Our area was saved extreme flooding unlike Valencia but heartbreaking to see and hear horror stories of our neighbours and what they’re suffering through. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Unfortunally solutions cost money, and people wants to build houses and live in flood areas, when that floods are rare.
All flood land can be calculated. And if we avaliate were the flood lands are, a lot of people have to leave their long stand family houses because they are situated in flood potential land.
Its that around the world. People wills to live vs nature laws.

@@ricardoxavier827 I’ve read comments on a post I put out asking for river situ around us and they said everything looks good as a result of recent years improvement in the areas drain system / flood defences. They really worked we’ve been so very very lucky but we’re not in winter yet so I take nothing for granted.

@@ricardoxavier827 The "calculation" is only a probability calculation. Here in Germany and everywhere in middle Europe we have a lot potential dangerous areas... but we also have had flooding in areas that should have rather low odds to be hit by flash floods.
So... just leaving actually doesnt solve the issue. More important is to PREPARE for (many) more flash floods in future. And yes - this areas with higher risk should even do more. But also most other regions in the world should be prepared.
You remember Dubais flash flood a few month ago? Dubai is not supposed to high risk at all.
The idea you could find a country with no risk just isn't helpful in what's coming to us in the next decades (which we caused btw).

14th October 1957 was a similarly horrific day for València. Back then it was the river Turia. València had long been the victim of flooding (Wikipedia estimates 75 floods between 1321 and 1897). The worst decisions were to build on flood plains.

But they couldn't do that. The autonomic government of Valencia had dismantled the emergency system and moved € 140.000.000 to bullfighting. The AEMET sent messages advising of the imminent danger at 8 in the morning. This is what happens in Spain when the right wing are in power

The regional President Carlos Muñoz should resign. 1 They (proudly) shut down the Emergency Program.
2 At 13:00 on Wednesday he said the storm would Peter out by 1800.
    3. At 1400 on Wednesday all public employees were sent home.
    3. The Civil Alert went off at 20:00 on Wednesday. Many were driving back from work and already gloating in river roads by then.
4 The National Weather service announcement potential life threatening weather on the Wednesday 4 days before.
On every level Carlos Muñoz is at fault.

This is a regular occurrence in Valencia. The same 'Cold drop' was responsible for the 1957 flood and Wikipedia states "A large number of floods have been recorded in Valencia, from 1321 to 1897. Up to 75 floods are estimated to have taken place in the seven centuries prior to the 1957 flood." So unless climate change was around in the year 1321 this was not caused by 'climate change'.

Cloud seeding is a type of weather modification that aims to change the amount or type of precipitation, mitigate hail or disperse fog. The usual objective is to increase rain or snow, either for its own sake or to prevent precipitation from occurring in days afterward. Wikipedia

Fast solution: dig divertion channels like los angeles have. Expensive.
Long term solution, plant trees and block rivers to forested lower land flood areas.

Los angeles, california USA, did the solution long decades ago. Even on the holywood movies we see that solution being used on the movies. Its exists. Nothing new to be invented. Just expropriate land and dig the diverting channels. Tie the the rivers entry to force water divertion to the channels in a flood event. But that costs money.

As a European I would not want to pay for the reconstruction. Scientists have warned about these phenomena and the risks and yet more and more people are settling in the Valencia region. And when I hear the Prime Minister say: “we will rebuild Valencia as it was before” it is utter stupidity. He is not even capable of analyzing that his policy is a cause of these misfortunes and does not understand that when nature says stop concrete and construction near rivers then we must listen to it.

First recorded Gota Fría was in 19th Century and occur regularly. The 1957 incident near Barcelona caused 617 deaths. Too easy to blame climate change, rather take a look at the amount of urbanisation of the flood plain adjacent to the Albufera wet lands. This tragedy is more directly man made than looking to catastrophize climate change, instead question building development policy.

They all knew right from the morning the risk this storm was posing, yet they point fingers and expect authorities to tell them the exact time their bedrooms will be flooded, in the meantime they carry on with their lives driving around, without a care in the world, countless videos of cars floating around with their lights on,

Vikas you are too naive. Dubai had the worst flood this year, Brazil had one, that was pretty big, there was one massive flood in Germany, Texas in US had a big flood not too long ago. There was a flood in Vancouver Canada two weeks ago, not as big as Spain but not a normal rainy weather either. Means, there is climatic shift happening all over. There should be a serious discussion among climate experts and research studies to mitigate emerging challenges. As usual, technology along with advent of AI can help people to withstand with these new challenges. Also, we need to be prepared about forthcoming challenges. A quick model to look at is japan, how they have build certain buildings to mitigate with the frequent earthquakes that happens in Japan. Japan had a big earthquake of 7.6 Richter scale, and only few people died and very minimal damages. There was same Richter scale of earthquake in 2015 and pretty much turned the whole nation upside down, with massive deaths and severe infrastructure damage that took almost 2-3 yrs to recover.
