Why does this clip make me emotional? Something about the positivity that he had when thinking about 2017, so distant back then. The reflection of what people were doing 360 years ago... it's all very reflective.
I was 12 when this happened. We saw this in Yakima, Washington. The teachers and staff led out all of us kids to a baseball field at our elementary school and when the shadows started and everything became black as night, right in the middle of the day, it was a feeling to never forget. ALL of us were just in awe. So glad I was able to witness it.
I remember 1970 when I lived in New York 2017 in Virginia and tomorrow and they're all going to kind of be meh cuz they're only partial eclipses where I lived at the time. I miss Frank Reynolds RIP
Its kinda cool and eerie watching the broadcasters from 1979 announce that the next eclipse wouldnt be until August 21st 2017. Im sure in 1979 years like 2017 and 2024 were WAAAYYYY into the future and a lot has changed since then. Additionally i was 5 years away from being born, in 2017 i would be 32 and this year im 39 going on 40!
I am basically the same age as you. Just under 5 years before I was born, my father was in the direct path at 19 years old. The annular eclipse last year passed over my current residence of ABQ NM, and I drove to see the total eclipse last month in Texas.
February 26 is my birthday. Sooo cool. In 1979 I turned 15. ❤️❤️😊😊. Sadly, Frank Reynolds did not live to see the one in 2017. He died way too young at the age of 59. He would’ve been well into his 80s had he lived to 2017. 🤔🤔
I love that we get to experience such a cool cosmic event together as a country. I was just outside in a meadow watching it with my fellow americans. I felt a deep sense of camaraderie just as I feel a connection to this news anchorman from 1979 as connection to America's past. love you all
I was too far north to fully experience the “38 years later” one. I will go to Dallas in a couple days to see this year’s total eclipse. I had a view in my backyard in ABQ of the ring of fire one last October at least.
Came to comment here 4/8/2024 after the solar eclipse that day. One of lifes greatest memories! I fondly remember the one in 2017 (the first one in the USA since this one in ‘79) but i kinda regret not making the 300 mile drive to totality in Upstate NY this year. Oregon Idaho and i think part of Montana also got a total eclipse in 2017 although totality passed south of Portland
I’m from Helena and I was 10 years old during this event. I remember it quite well! Hadn’t seen that many people in our small city…well…like ever before. Sadly…we are not a world at peace. Far from it.
Just got here from the 2024 solar eclipse. It was absolutely breathtaking and exciting! 🌓 Though I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Mr. Reynolds, but in 2017 and even in 2024, we are anything *but* a world of peace. It’s a world of utter chaos! I don’t know if you could've even functioned in today’s society. 😔
I remember this in 8th grade out of Missouri. Our teacher let us have a view out of the classroom window. But they didn’t make it a big deal back then? It’s so funny, the news reporters back then mentioned Aug 2017 like it was 100 years away. 😂
@@louky264 I was only 14 years old so most of us didn’t have a real understanding of the science. But we did think it was pretty cool looking out the classroom window.
"May the shadow of the moon fall on a world at peace."

And how they get so excited

I was in 5th grade in Yakima, Washington at McKinley grade school. We all went outside and saw it, too.
They don’t even want to know what’s going on now. I was two weeks old back then.
I remember seeing the solar eclipse of 1973 and 1979 2017 now will be 2024 also remember news anchor Frank Reynolds

Nothing better than the late Frank Reynolds.
I was in Everett Washington for that one. The sky went from Bright gray to dark and back to Bright Gray.

I was little when in 1991 we had an eclipse in Mexico, I'm excited to be able to watch one, or "experience" one again!!!
It is going through Mazatlán and some other places in Mexico on its way to Texas.
I thought there was one that year. I would have been way too far north for that one though lol
I was at the Franklin Institute for this one in Philadelphia I was 17 years old.
Ironically i was in Philadelphia and Wilmington today. I watched the eclipse next to the Brandywine in Downtown Wilmington
I was in Oregon 11 years old 😊
...I saw this live when I was 13, then in 2017, again in 2024. I will be 78 years old if I make it to the next one :)
August 21, 2017 was a wonderful day in Wyoming. Now I have seen 2, April 8th 2024.

February 26, 2279 in Oregon. What will it be 300 years from that video?
I’m going to say Earth won’t exist in 2279. Everyone left will be in Space Crafts. Earth will be a distant memory. Until the cycle begins again.
Wow 2017 seem like the Jetsons to us back then😅
I had some years left to be born, but hopefully I see it again in 2045!

What’s so amazing about an eclipse? Apocalypto
Wrong. #Unfortunately
2:26 he called them Indians, IM TRIGGERED!!! 😡😡😡😡😡
We didn’t know any better back then. Many apologies.
@@hankforeman91 it’s hard to convey sarcasm over text 🙄
@@Dblock8998 I didn’t mean to be sarcastic, I was just reading the comment as is.

@@Dblock8998 OH. Okay.
I was 17 couldn't wait for the '80s I didn't like the '70s
The 1970s were probably better than the 2020s lol
In 2017, the shadow of the moon fell on Trump. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen again.
Why so Biden can keep ruining our nation
Hopefully this time next year he will be president again.
.awesome u wonder how it came to b the moon can eclipse the sun...hmmmm mayb planned that way...
