  • "If you grew up watching westerns on TV, the landscapes on the New Mexico BDR will bring back memories. It’s true Wild West with the history to prove it.
    You’ll ride through areas where the notorious outlaw ‘Billy the Kid’ made history by eluding authorities and see the land the same way he did because not much has changed in many of these places. Wild horses, landscapes that roll on forever and the tiniest of towns highlight this route.
    Beginning in Dell City, TX you’ll enjoy the Guadalupe Rim views on your way to the high-elevation historic town of Cloudcroft. Hot springs, and lakeside camping can be found on your way into the mountains of the Gila National Forest and you’ll even be a stone’s throw from AZ before heading back to the north east toward Colorado. Highlights include Chloride Canyon, long stretches between towns and endless dispersed camping options. The last section north of Abiquiu winds through high mountains with open meadows with groves of aspen trees and is as beautiful as it gets."
    After over a month recovering from my injury on the CABDR I'm able to get back on the trail. First up was New Mexico.
    Hello!
    I'm Brady, AKA Mountainman, I've been a soldier, ski bum, police officer, government worker, photographer, and all around nomad. Now I travel on my motorcycle, make videos, and share them with the world. Along the way I do dumb stuff off road, camp, fly drones, take pictures, learn about culture and history and do my best to take you with me.
    In early 2022 I set off on my motorcycle Yennefer (2021 Tenere 700) for an adventure with no set destination or timeline. Come along with me and let’s see what will happen as I try to ride until I can't.
    Bike: Yamaha Tenere 700
    Luggage: Mosko Moto Scout Panniers, Backcountry Duffle, and Hood tankbag
    Navigation: Carpe Iter Tablet and Drive Mode Dashboard 2
    Cameras: GoPro Hero 11, Hero 9, GoPro Max, GoPro Hero 8, Skydio 2, DJI Mavic Air 2
    Gear: Adventure Spec Jacket/Armor/Gloves/Pants/Base Layers, Alpinestars Toucan boots, Arai XD4.

    Without a doubt you have the best BDR videos. You are a huge help in planning. Thank you

    Good videos!
    Since we really can't ride much in North Idaho right now, winter, the wife and I watch your journeys and by the great footage, plan our journeys for when the weather gets better. Can't wait! Thanks!

    Lots of respect Ben. Anyone can practice something they know or are comfortable with. Trying something you are intimidated with is large.

    Great filming, narration and riding👍. I share a similar disdain for gravel aka marbles; would rather deal with sand.

    Enjoy your videos. We did NMBDR in 2022 from Dell City to Grants but all the routes were closed from there
    north due to fires. You make really good time. Course traveling alone makes your stops much shorter usually also!! Stay safe!

    Great to see these all together in one. It really helps get a better sense of the route. Consequently NMBDR is now on my list and I will not be missing Chloride Canyon ;)

    I met a thru hiker, east of Snow Lake. He was basically out of food. I was happy to give him some bread and snacks. He was looking thin and bug-eyed. Chatty guy. Like you said, it's good to stop and check in with them. @1:31:22 you are riding toward some cliff dwellings. There's a rock right next to the road with well-preserved petroglyphs.

    Thank you for sharing the adventure, I'm 65 & have a 16 yr. old son, we're looking forward to the NMBDR south to north. we both have KLR 650's, however we both are very green as far as any off roading other than average local dirt roads, any advise or input for the NMBDR would be greatly appreciated, publications, GPS info or personal advise ect. would be appreciated !

      Take your time, take the easy alternates if you're struggling, take as little weight as you can, get some training if you can, and just enjoy the adventure. There isn't anything super technical and if you have to go slow and pick your way through, it's still progress.

      Mostly Motoz Dual Venture front and Adventure rear. I ran a set of RALLZ once, and a set of Michelin Anakee Wilds and liked both of them. I just like how much life I get out of the MOTOZ.

    I have a KLR and am going to do the Idaho BDR north to south then jump into the Oregon BDR south to north. What tires would you recommend? I’m running the stock tires right now. Thanks again for your outstanding video’s.

    • @MeerkatADV
      @MeerkatADV  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would say as grippy a tire as will make the distance. I'm a big fan of Motoz, something like the Rallz would be good. Just realize those routes are very different skill levels. Idaho is beautiful but not very difficult, Oregon is fairly short but quite difficult nearly the entire way.

    What are the best times of the year to do this ride?

    • @MeerkatADV
      @MeerkatADV  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      New Mexico is generally an early season or late season ride. July/August is just too damn hot down south. Late April to June and September until snow closes the trails are good times.

    Carrizozo. CAR as care, RI as in ride, ZOZO as in go go except with z. Sorry to be pedantic. Really enjoyed the video.
