China is in the pipeline. I plan on making a video similar to the Russian Federation Explained video. Currently though I also plan on doing this for Indonesia, India, and Spain so it might take a while.
a wee note about Indonesia: school history textbooks claim here that Indonesia had claimed all of the Dutch East Indies when they proclaimed independence (i.e. including Dutch New Guinea), and that the results of the 1949 conference that ended in NL seceding Indonesia (apart from New Guinea) implied that Indonesia would suddenly get it (thus justifying the things that included the Indonesian invasion of NL new guinea). And a decent number of people seem to believe that East Timor joined because they wanted to (this would be during Suharto's regime - during whichpeople were made to think that being outside during a solar eclipse would be lethal (students aside - at least they knew better) ) Can't find another source for that on the Internet though. Do take what I wrote with a grain of salt, I guess?
Kerstkrans Ya-Mian yes, many people in east timr want to join indonesia but, the neo communist government declined the offer and there was a demonstration and then indonesia invades it
Fun one for me: Chicago was almost in Wisconsin. Just like Ohio, the northern border of Illinois was originally meant to be a line drawn due west from the southernmost tip of Lake Michigan to the Mississippi River. However, when time came to petition for statehood, it was found that the Illinois Territory didn't have enough citizens to qualify under the legislation of the time, so they simply moved the border further north. So Wisconsin got screwed out of Chicago and the UP. Take that, Cheesheads!
Great Video, very informative and interesting, but one big PLEASE: Get a new mic or better sound recording software and do it more slowly, maybe even make 2 videos out of it. That would make it perfect. Aside from that, great work!
The information in this video is phenomenal! One small request: If the presenter would please slow down on following videos you would be much easier to understand! I chose to not finish your video because the speech was just too rapid and hard to process. But again, wonderful information and very informative. This was the goal of buying Alaska. America was hoping that when buying it Great Britain would just let them have the coast, but Britain didn't want to give it up even though to this day almost no one lives there minus near Washington.
This was so brilliantly done that I had to subscribe! Thanks for these tantalizing little tid-bits of U.S. state and international border history. I always wondered what it would be like to live in that little piece of the USA totally surrounded by Canada, although I think someone already did a story on TV about the school bus that has to pass customs every day to get kids back and forth to U.S. Schools. I didn't know about that place in Iowa that is in Nebraska, (if you know what I mean)... will have to talk to my Iowa relatives about that and see how they feel about it. But yes, this was fun to watch, well-narrated, and I'll have to watch and look again so I can see all those fine points. Best wishes, and yes, I subscribed.
You need to 1. Slow down 2. Have clear demarcation between sections 3. Better visual clue to show what you're referring 4. Better visual clue within the maps themselves (e.g. use the same color for the state, and the border it claims)

One detail you missed about Maryland's many weird border anomalies is that, at one point, the Mason-Dixon Line was (I think) 12-15 miles north of where the current line that defines the border between Pennsylvania and Maryland, but for some arcane reason once known to me but now lost to memory, it was negotiated to have that border drawn further south to what it is now.
Revisiting this video... Lots of great information. And I am glad you have the music playing softly even if it was the Anthem. In order to keep up with the machine-gun audio delivery I had to go to the gear wheel, next to Closed Caption (CC) , and set the video speed to .75 instead of normal. It sounds a bit weird at first , but it is a Hellva lot easier to follow.
Regarding the Delmarva, the transpeninsular line was established going across at the peninsula's widest point, which is Delaware's southern border, then turns north at the midpoint until it meets the 12 mile circle.
Sorry VdC, but I couldn't finish watching. Fascinating topic, good-looking graphics, but oh your nonstop gabble is impossible to listen to. :( Relax a bit, take a breath, and give viewers a moment to glance at each map and read the captions.
honorable mentions: -elm point (basically an tiny uninhabited point roberts) -province island (island split between quebec and vermont) -isles of shoals (only islands to be split by interstate borders, namely maine and new hampshire)
I have family up in the U. P. They call themselves Upers and some actually want to split off & make their own state since they're so different from the rest of Michigan.
If you look to the right and down a bit from the San Juan Islands at 9:33, you’ll see the label for Anacortes, which is where my paternal grandparents lived. I’ve visited the English and American camps on San Juan Island on visits there, where they have a designated historical park. Some original buildings are still there, and both camps have visitor centers where you can learn about the Pig War and life for those stationed at the camps.
Great to hear all these complicated histories! I always wondered if da UP became part of Michigan just to make sure the Brits didn't grab it by attaching it to the more settled mitten-land. Good on ya for saying "Rio Grande" in the Spanish way, but everyone in Oregon says "Orragun". (accent on the first.) You could just say the Pig War happened on San Juan Island, (indeed the biggest of the group in the Salish Sea) Another episode might cover why so many places in the Salish Sea have Spanish names and another on how the Salish Sea got it's name (rather recently)

a wee note about Indonesia: school history textbooks claim here that Indonesia had claimed all of the Dutch East Indies when they proclaimed independence (i.e. including Dutch New Guinea), and that the results of the 1949 conference that ended in NL seceding Indonesia (apart from New Guinea) implied that Indonesia would suddenly get it (thus justifying the things that included the Indonesian invasion of NL new guinea).
And a decent number of people seem to believe that East Timor joined because they wanted to (this would be during Suharto's regime - during whichpeople were made to think that being outside during a solar eclipse would be lethal (students aside - at least they knew better) )
Can't find another source for that on the Internet though. Do take what I wrote with a grain of salt, I guess?
NO T H O T S I couldn't understand it and generally I can do so very well. He may have just been slightly fast.
Kerstkrans Ya-Mian yes, many people in east timr want to join indonesia but, the neo communist government declined the offer and there was a demonstration and then indonesia invades it
"Pa-toe-mack" haha
Amazing information, but please slow down just a tiny bit! Good job!
nicely done on the Journey reference!
I learned more from this guy in 10 minutes than school ever taught me in 11 years up to this point.
Troll Breaker How stupid must you be
Then how did you type that
That’s TH-cam for ya

Fun one for me: Chicago was almost in Wisconsin. Just like Ohio, the northern border of Illinois was originally meant to be a line drawn due west from the southernmost tip of Lake Michigan to the Mississippi River. However, when time came to petition for statehood, it was found that the Illinois Territory didn't have enough citizens to qualify under the legislation of the time, so they simply moved the border further north. So Wisconsin got screwed out of Chicago and the UP. Take that, Cheesheads!
I quite enjoyed this. I love learning about this stuff. And keep your personal style. It's part of what makes this enjoyable.
Great vid, just some tips,
*slow down
*give longer pauses
*clean up the audio
Great Video, very informative and interesting, but one big PLEASE: Get a new mic or better sound recording software and do it more slowly, maybe even make 2 videos out of it. That would make it perfect. Aside from that, great work!
The information in this video is phenomenal!
One small request: If the presenter would please slow down on following videos you would be much easier to understand! I chose to not finish your video because the speech was just too rapid and hard to process. But again, wonderful information and very informative. Thank you for taking the time to get this information together!
You deserve way more subs
It's pronounced "Puhtomic"
Dave Iden
Yes! I'm from Virginia so that irritated me a little.
Everytime I heard him end it with “Mack”, I winced..
Don't worry, he also said Oregone, not Oregun which is how it is pronounced, although since it is spelled Oregon, confusion is understandable
Dave Iden it killed me too
Dave Iden “oraygon” he meant oregon
8:08 imagine if Whole Oregon territory would be part of the USA Alaska would be connected with rest of the United States.
Or, almost.
This was the goal of buying Alaska. America was hoping that when buying it Great Britain would just let them have the coast, but Britain didn't want to give it up even though to this day almost no one lives there minus near Washington.
Played at 0.75 speed. Sounds just right. And drunk
Lol it does
That made it both actually understandable and more entertaining
Great tip 👍
Literally just found the out by accident 🤣
0.9x is better

Interesting all, and then there's that chunk of Southwick, Mass. that dips down into Connecticut.
Fast and gets to the point, no filler unlike other 10 minute long videos on youtube. Great video!
0:00 Weirdest electoral map ever
yeah, why is california not blue?
He was trying to make the flag of America, but using the states to make it. Didn't work well :/
ZCAB that would be a cool sight to see one day actually
Its supposed to be the flag
As you can see the blue party as already consumed northwestern part of the country
That was a lot to digest.
You need to
1. Slow down
2. Have clear demarcation between sections
3. Better visual clue to show what you're referring
4. Better visual clue within the maps themselves (e.g. use the same color for the state, and the border it claims)
The way he pronounces Potomac makes me uncomfortable, I'm a Marylander so maybe it's just a Maryland way we pronounce it
No, it's not just you... I was raised in Minnesota, and now live in Wisconsin.... still sounded wrong to me.
James Bond Same here my friend. If you look at the border of Washington County, Maryland it's shaped exactly like Maryland.
I'm from Virginia and we pronounce it like "puh toe mick."
North carolinian here. Its "putomic"
West Virginia here.. putomic..

Hey what's up guys, its VanDeGraph, and welcome back to another minecraft video.
And today we are going to be using an obscure mod that literally breaks the game, but it also lets you ride a dragon while also riding on a pig so its forgivable.
hey!
VanDeGraph Where did you get your maps?
puh-TOW-mick. And what compass are you using... I can’t find norf on mine.
It’s pronounced The Pa-To-Mic river
"Potomack"
yeah lol and does not rhyme with Big Mac
You are right 👍👍👍
What if it was called Pac-Man river? That would be great
Puh-toe-mick
I know you're Canadian, so I thank you for doing videos of my home country. Kudos
I didn’t realize it was 10 mins long... I also didn’t know I would want to watch the whole thing.
lol happens to me a lot..
High-pass filter, or nasal-toned voice?
both! :-D
Sounds like he has a cold.

Blame Penn and Calvert debating on where territory lines should be. Mason and Dixon were hired to correct it later on.
Fascinating stuff, sounds to be well researched (I hope), good graphics. But oh, the pace. I couldn't keep up and had to bail out.
I love how you have the American theme in the background 😂
Regarding the Delmarva, the transpeninsular line was established going across at the peninsula's widest point, which is Delaware's southern border, then turns north at the midpoint until it meets the 12 mile circle.
Sorry VdC, but I couldn't finish watching. Fascinating topic, good-looking graphics, but oh your nonstop gabble is impossible to listen to. :( Relax a bit, take a breath, and give viewers a moment to glance at each map and read the captions.
I disagree completely. Slow down your playback speed with < key, if your getting too old for the youtuberies?
Almost sounded to me like he had braces on his teeth. Narrator should re-record, avoid the monotone and mispronunciations.
How many hours of work was this?
A lot. If I had to guess its somewhere between 100 to 200 hours.
Excellent post.

Aaaaand cut! Great video! Now this time let's try it with A LOT less coffee involved. Aaaand ACTION!
honorable mentions:
-elm point (basically an tiny uninhabited point roberts)
-province island (island split between quebec and vermont)
-isles of shoals (only islands to be split by interstate borders, namely maine and new hampshire)

I would talk slower, its very confusing
use a q-tip to clean your ears.

Interesting but goes too fast. Slow down a little bit so it doesn't seem like someone on a coke binge made this video.
Worst TH-cam narrator ever (and I'm not one of those who misuse "ever" several times a day).
Michigan: Okay, Ohio, I will give you Toledo for a part of what-seems Wisconsin!
Ohio: 0_0
And MI got the better end of that deal, I say. 😌
Holy Toledo!
drumdad54 sdl Well yeah Ohio got stuck with Toledo
I have family up in the U. P. They call themselves Upers and some actually want to split off & make their own state since they're so different from the rest of Michigan.
This is the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry continues today.
This triagonal line is mine. XD I get it!

This is such a fantastic video, with such a huge amount of information in such a short span of time. You're already really fast at rattling down your text, but with your obvious talent, I'm sure you can do it still 10 or 20 percent faster. Just imagine, having the same load of in formation in 08:13 instead of 10:16! The triumph of efficiency! Of course, you'd be even less understandable than you already are, but hey, *some* price always needs to be paid.
Please speak slower. Great video anyway.

Agreed. Excellent information, just please slow down a touch and take some pauses here and there :]
