Whatever happens from here on out i hope you (Microsoft) understand that the openness of this game is what made it flourish. When you put so much freedom into the hands of the community they will flourish with creativity. What lies just beyond the game itself is where its heart is. From texture packs to mods, mini games to servers, videos to livestreams, 99% of this game is what the community made with it. Continue to give us that freedom in the future and all will be well between us :-)
Thank you xisumavoid for this nicely spoken comment which is passionate and touching, but still suspiciously critical of the situation. :) As much as I like to be convinced by what Phil Spencer said, the parable of the scorpion and the frog Luis Carvalho mentioned is true as well (look what MS did to Skype - ruin the whole idea of it: p2p communication). I hope Spencer meant what he said and that he has the ability - and competence within the company - to put it to practice.
these comments aged like milk lol, microsoft was the best thing that happened to mojang, they kept giving funding to make all these amazing free updates, thank you phil
In all fairness Mojang could've gone on without Microsoft. They likely would've still sold just as well and we probably wouldn't have gotten the microtransaction version of the game. That being said you can never go wrong with Microsoft funding your game indefinitely.
Phil Spencer you're the best thing that happened to Microsoft and thank you for taking what was broken and fixing it I love my xbox again because of you
Awesome. Microsoft is an amazing company, I can see this being very positive. I bet the developers are so happy. This is even more life changing than how successful the game already was.
What ever you do, be sure we watch every single move! If you ruin our game, we will make sure microsoft will pay for it forever. Be careful with our game. The community made this game to what it is, if you tread us right, you will get what you want, loyal cutomers for the future. All up to you;-) With that said, long live Minecraft and the community.
I'm just waiting for the first update to "accidentally" break Linux support, just like Skype, with a fix put on the backburner for a year until it's cancelled.
It'll start slowly, maybe a couple new lines on the EULA. Nothing much. Then some updates only available in Windows, maybe even only on 8.1. Then the lawyers will get in the game... and... well we all know how it will go. Right now, I can't convince myself to login on a Microsoft controlled server, been playing offline. My account is early Alpha. From the time we were assured to get all updates forever. I'm curious to see how long that will last. I have no businness interest in Minecraft. None at all. If I did, I would be looking for another way to make a living. FAST.
1. Platform restrictions 2. Monthly subscriptions 3. Pay to Win 4. Paid DLC 5. No modding These are just the first five off the top of my head. Minecraft 2 will have all of these, Mincraft 1 will have development wrap up shortly.
Anybody who thinks Microsoft will make Mojang ditch non Microsoft products is wrong. 2.5 billion is a lot of money. Ditching a platform will make you lose lots of money. Honestly, they probably bought them so the Windows phone can have it. I'm still waiting for an Ouya version.
I was quite worried about how this was going to turn out. But right now it's looking much better then I expected. I don't think they're really going to change that much with the game. It's probabaly just going to stay the same, and updates might start rolling out faster. Looking forward to see what you have in store for us Microsoft. :P Just don't mess it up! :)

I just hope they give help to 4J studios on updates, they really need it. I'm tired of waiting 6 months for a feature update. I'm not saying 4J do a bad job but there just isn't enough people working on it to catch up with PC.
yea weird.. they must have like 1 person working on it. Mojang has about 3 people developing Minecraft and that is including designing the features. How slow must 4J Studios be to not catch up
Microsoft, I'll have no issues with this acquisition as long as you keep Minecraft as open as it has been (multi-platform, free and open modding/server hosting, f2p, no paid DLC, etc). I can't wait to see what Mojang does with the extra money! I feel like each update has been lacking more and more, but I bet the bigger budget should help pick things back up. From a business standpoint, this is exactly what Mojang needed.
I think Minecraft will flourish. I am sure Microsoft will take in the communities feedback and suggestions to enhance the overall Minecraft experience. I think his will be a good change.
I hope your plan doesn't involve making us pay for every update, because that's how you kill the game. Not that I wouldn't pay, but minecraft is so great because so many people are able to stop playing, start again after months and just download the new update and get back into it. If Microsoft wants to buy mojang, that's fine. If they plan on making the game better for the community and actually listen to us for feedback that would be great. If they take one wrong step, and sometimes it can be only one wrong step, then it could spell disaster for the Minecraft community and Microsoft itself. Be careful Microsoft.

Buy Gold Membership to get access to 3 custom skins and be able to build upto a maximum of 60 blocks in microsoft-hosted 4 player servers. Map Pack DLC released, including 5 maps from two different biomes. Several micro-transactions, like the in-game store, offers several useful items like cooked porkchops and diamond armor for reasonable prices starting from $1.99. Pre-order for $59.99 to get the Flaming Pumpkin-hat.
its good that Microsoft have acquired Mojang/Minecraft. as they said in the video, they aren't removing the experience from other platforms, and they are going to be updating it on all platforms as well. Phil Spencer is a nice guy, he has the same motive that we all share, gaming.
Mojang has always been a company very comfortable with their audience. You're talking to a bunch of assorted gamers sitting in front of screens, not men in suits. Stop standing at attention, stiffly, and reading a script. Talk to us like we're humans. Personally, I have a lot of hope for Microsoft and Minecraft, however you're presenting your company as an uptight business, which will hardly help your already negative reputation among the majority of Minecraft players. I hope that this message gets heards, whether from me or anywhere else.
Calm down people, do you really think Microsoft spent 2.5 bi just to mess up a game? Minecraft has one of the biggest communities, and they know the backlash they'll get if they make any kind of DLC or subscription fees, chill out guys, Microsoft know what it's doing.
Bad very bad they will put micro transactions. This will make them gain the money they spend on it. NO more free updates and you'll have to pay more for a decent experience!
***** they have a big enough budget as is, i mean 16 million copies sold, $30 each ? even if it was $1 each they would be filthy rich (they also said so themselves) So i think nothing good can come from this.
***** But I hope there are the same developers working on it or is it Microsoft's team? I hope it's the same because I don't trust Microsoft quite yet to make a good update.
Microsoft kind of made Halo so, i can't really see this beeing a bad thing.

Did you actually watch the video and hear what he say? Like, at all?
its good that Microsoft have acquired Mojang/Minecraft. as they said in the video, they aren't removing the experience from other platforms, and they are going to be updating it on all platforms as well.
Found you here too? Wow, you're spreading like a virus all over the internet! :O
Sorry Eurogamer pony fanboys, but Microsoft is the POWER!!!
"Eurogamer". What is that suppose to mean? Everyone that is from Europe is bad?
CodPK2 Eurogamer is a site lol I dont mean Europeople!
Maria Helena Lol I knew it was a site but I didn't expect it to refer to the site.
I have a lot of respect for Phil Spencer
Agree make it xbox and Windows exclusive and aside from the pocket editon end support
I hope microsoft doesn't do anything stupid with minecraft, because we as community love the game as how it is now.
good job now lets forget about the ps edition for two years
Calm down people, do you really think Microsoft spent 2.5 bi just to mess up a game? Minecraft has one of the biggest communities, and they know the backlash they'll get if they make any kind of DLC or subscription fees, chill out guys, Microsoft know what it's doing.
As long as the game grows and improves and isn't made exclusive then this could be a good thing
Is this a bad thing or a good thing?
***** Why?
Bad very bad they will put micro transactions. This will make them gain the money they spend on it. NO more free updates and you'll have to pay more for a decent experience!
EpicGaM3R13 Ah darn does that mean they are gonna make us pay for updates!?!?!
*****
they have a big enough budget as is, i mean 16 million copies sold, $30 each ? even if it was $1 each they would be filthy rich (they also said so themselves)
So i think nothing good can come from this.
***** But I hope there are the same developers working on it or is it Microsoft's team? I hope it's the same because I don't trust Microsoft quite yet to make a good update.
Both start with (Mi) and both end with (Ft)
Edit: and both have the same amount of letters
