Thank you Taren for the review. When I fully respect your opinion and in most cases agree with your reviews, I would disagree on this one about "nice" to have vs. " good/should to have". I am 95% indoor rider by many common reasons, traffic, stop signs, lights, rude drivers, you can name it. I have 4 kids so triathlon is my hobby, but I have to be safe. Also I am competitive athlete. I was riding computrainer for 6 years and did those crazy long rides in prep for my 5 IMs. When I agree that it is an addition, I feel that it is actually very good and necessary addition in regards to recruit different muscles during the ride. Like with new NYC routes and those short, sharp hills up to 14%, or epic climb in Zwift, you are completely changing muscle use if you do not have it. Try just to block your climb and do one loop during your ride without this option and then with. You will feel that besides breaking monotony of the ride, it forces you to have this feel when you are up and down and recruit different muscles. I would agree with you though if you are riding relatively flat course, it is not a big deal and not really necessary. Thank you for your reviews.
Been riding the first gen kicker for three years. I’m upgrading. Just bought the package, climb, kickr pro and the headwind. Cycling is my hobby I don’t care about the money,I’ll make more tomorrow at work.I own 13 bikes. Ya only live once.
The kickr climb does help you on indoor training by shifting the muscles used while cycling just like outdoor riding, once you go climb you won’t go back . everyone has a budget and if it’s in your budget get it or ask Santa for one
I have a great deal of respect for you now that you have not just told people to go out and buy this piece of equipment. Credibility maintained. Well done!
Thanks for the info Taren, I made the decision to invest this year and upgrade my previous indoor setup. I opted for the kickr core (more than enough for my needs) and the climb (soon to follow). I'm enjoying the core, very smooth set up and use. Looking forward to the climb once back in stock. Continued success in all you do, keep the information coming.
Yeah, great review thanks. I think you've convinced me to get the Neo. It's not worth the extra $600.00 just for motion immersion. Whereas, with the Neo, you get the immersive sensations for less money ironically. But, this still looks like fun and I'd enjoy it if I had one, and wouldn't want to train without it but, for now the Neo gets a slight edge. I even think the footprint of the Neo is smaller when considering the two pieces of equipment
I would like to hear opionions about, if the climb makes the "game" with zwift just feeling more real or if it also changes/improves the training in a physiological way (as a whole body training)?
Rocking that ten year old cyclops that came with my bike that I got on craigslist a few years back. ...While I do like a fun piece of gear, from what I can tell, it ain’t the trainer that makes you faster. It’s the time you spend on it!
I’m using the Kickr Core - great bit of kit especially at the reduced price point compared to the Kickr 2018. Took a while to get hold of it from Wahoo but well worth the wait. 450km done on it so far and no complaints - dropped out of ERG mode once but I think that was me!
Hi Taren: Does the climb help when you get out of the saddle on climbs? It looks like it would help from a ergo dynamic aspect, putting the bike frame in a better position?
Using a Kinetic fluid trainer with Zwift, Apple TV and an inexpensive display.. Had a limited budget for trainers, so neither the Wahoo nor the Cycleops trainers were an option. I think I can later upgrade my Kinetic trainer to use a control power unit where apps can control the resistance. There seems to be an interesting psychology with Zwift and my fluid trainer. With no computer-controlled resistance, There is absolutely nothing stopping me from spinning along at say 75 watts whenever an incline appears, and taking it easy. But seeing my avatar on the screen barely moving makes me want to work hard enough to get "cyber-me" to move at at least a respectable pace. I end up feeling more tired after the hilly routes even though in a purely logical world, this should not happen.
My interest is not on real road feel or not. My interest is if this climb will be good for me to practice the hill. Is the climb good for the hill practice?
Riding on Kinetic Rock and Roll and enjoying it. Really like how dynamic it is compared to a static trainer. If Kinetic made a “Climb” I think that would be as close as it would get to riding outsie.
I have one and it’s worth it for sure. I ride indoors a lot both training and racing on zwift. If you have the money and you’re thinking about it, do it!
@@Raptors0524 if you are in a training mode you’re probably best to do it in ERG mode but I’m not 100% sure if the climb does engage during ERG mode. For sure though you can manually adjust it with the remote
Tacx Flux S. It’s amazing. I tried a few demos out thinking I’d be going home with the Wahoo Kicker and I was FLOORED. LOVE the vids Taren. Please keep em coming!!!
Hey good video. I know this is a year old but I just got a Kickr Smart Trainer and looking at the climb. In a few of the cuts showing the climb movement under you it looks like it wiggles around quite a bit. I noticed you didn’t talk about that. Could you let me know how significant that movement is when you’re putting down big watts versus the front tire on the floor? From the video it looks like you could really tip your bike over if you were cranking. Hopefully I’m wrong. Thank you.
Hey Taren, I have a question for you. Would you recommend the kickr climb and keep my kickr snap setup or would you just spend the money on the kickr core and forget the kickr. climb? Also, this won’t work if I am doing a training plan in Zwift, right? Thanks
The "climber" looks cool. I have been riding with the hammer (last years model) for about a year. Love it. I looked at both. Hammer seemed a little more solidly built and I had heard their customer service was very good. Any word about them creating a climber?
Is it advisable or possible to use a VR headset while riding the trainer? I want a more immersive experience than looking at a TV screen but all these reviewers are using a TV. Advice would be helpful because I am new to both VR and training (just ordered a Wahoo Core).
Yeah, I'd rather spend money on power pedals, a new wetsuit, or couple of race entries than this. But some "have more money than they know what to do with" and to them I say: "Go for it! Enjoy!"
Hi Taren, Question: why the quick realise on the front wheel is open, is the right way or not , nub question I know but I'm interested in do a setup with a Core and Climb from wahoo, by the way I have a s3 from cervelo too 2015 (red Ferrari) is any problem put on the Core ?

I am riding on the Cycleops Magneto Pro. One of the local shops hosts indoor training rides and once the winter is over they sell them off at a pretty big discount. Hoping to get a PowerMeter as my next big purchase
I’ll be on my cyclops hammer. Love the setup with Zwift. It makes riding inside so much more enjoyable and realistic. What’s up with the mini split ac unit? Last two videos the panel was open. Hopefully just filter change time. Thanks for another quality video Taren!
I have the Kickr Snap. Seems alright, not fancy, but wasn't sure I would get on it everyday. So far so good. I got a Stryd in the mail today. Looking forward to running on Zwift. I feel like the structure will help me more than aimlessly doing laps around the indoor track at the gym.
Excellent review thanks for sharing. I have a question I hope that you can help answer, when using zwift in the workout mode ie doing timed intervals in erg mode, does the course gradient changes still operate the kickr climb or will it only operate riding in the zwift simulation mode. Many thanks in advance.
I recently purchased Kickr climb, race on Zwift, & don't utilize the work out (ERG) mode option often. However, I was told by Wahoo tech support that the Kickr climb gradient will not change when used during work out mode.
I'm someone who has a backside that starts to hurt during longer trainer ride sessions. Can you comment as to whether you experience such pain and whether the climb makes the pain go away? This is pretty much the only reason I'm considering the climb against the tacx neo
@@TriathlonTaren Thanks for the reply and I love the videos. Pain is probably not the best word to use because its not a "I hurt because I do this" (I'd have definitely gone to the doctor/physio if it was). A better word would be sore; "if I sit in this position for too long I feel sore". Its probably because I'm still a bit big and sitting on the trainer in one position puts a bit more pressure on my butt than average. The thing is, when I get out of the saddle for about a minute or two every 15 minutes everything is fine. Post ride no problems. I'm just wondering if the Kickr Climb produces enough changes to one's position during the ride so its not like I'm sitting on the same spot the whole time. I haven't seen or heard any reviews (longer than a trial) that talk about this and their experiences. Any thoughts on this?
This is one of the reasons I want to try the Climb. When I was younger, never had issues with prolonged sessions in the saddle; now mid-40's, if I don't get out of the saddle some or have a shift in position the "numbness" thing starts happening (no, sir, I don't like that!) sucks getting old. & of course it happens far more often on the indoor trainer than outside riding with the gang. I have been told that riding with the Climb & having the angle changes will periodically change the pressure points between arse & saddle, & is supposed to help with that whole issue. So, while I don't know this personally from my own experience, I have been told that's an advantage of the unit & the main reason I'm telling my wife I "need" to get one! ;P :D I was originally going to get the Kickr; but decided for the same money, I could go Snap+Climb. *Possibly* helping with the bumm issue, but then I realized it also works better for me as I have multiple bikes (some older) that I can rotate in & out of the trainer (since the Snap's wheel on eliminates the need to change cassettes every time I used a different bike). I just haven't bought the Climb yet... thinking that's what my wife is eyeing for my Christmas present.
I don't have a trainer, but realistically would get the bkool smart go as it is the cheapest around. Mind you, I have other component purchases to make before I get a trainer...
I have the same feeling about my Tacx Flux. It doesn't make any sense that 150 W is 30 kph (I always calibrate before a ride even though I don't have to) and I'm also unsure about the corresponding calories.
It has nothing to do with Flux. Zwift speeds are very high due to constant drafting effect on crowded courses and very optimistic default riding parameters (low aerodynamic drag, rolling resistance and equipment weight). Calories are spot on too.
michwoz I wasn't complete in my answer. Both Zwift and Tacx Training give a consistent 30 kph at 150 W. Garmin reads 24 kph for 150 W. All for the same trainer. I have a feeling the speed is either over- or underestimated for a given power. By perceived exertion I would say 26-27 would me more correct.
