Thank you for your excellent advice. I just realized the inner conductor idea while practicing and felt it helped with playing more expressivly.

I did not start playing piano until an adult and have never played on stage, but yet this feeling of nerves and rushing creeps in when I play for friends/family. Not only rushing through difficult sections but also not allowing the music to breath in the softer moments. Thank you for sharing your tips!

This feeling can come up even when just performing for one single friend (it has for me!). It’s all a mental thing! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

That was very helpful, thank you, Danae! I watched a video yesterday of someone in Athens, out and about in what he described as a once-in-four-or-five-years snowstorm, so I'm not surprised to hear that your flight was cancelled. Hope you catch the afternoon flight, and wishing you all the best in your next concert! :-)

Thank you, Danae, very good analysis of what’s going on in mind of performer. One of my very talented students, who used to play on stage better than ever , recently started to experience rushing and doesn’t collapse only due to her strong professional foundation while artistic value is greatly diminished. I’m trying to make her to think during performance that she is on stage because she wants it, but it doesn’t work. I’ll show her your video for several times, maybe it will convince her.

Yes, please do and also keep in mind that this is a stadium or a phase that most musicians go through and come out of stronger in the end. It is a ver uncomfortable phase but also an extremely valuable lesson for us performers!

One day I was so stressed for certain things that happens before the concert. I just talked to myself and said: just relax yourself with the music you are about to play ( bach partita no 1 ) and it worked. After playing the prelude of this I was so into the music and I was able to Connect with the people.

Love this! That’s exactly what I am talking about!

After practicing them for 4 months, last year I forgot parts of my repertoire and a whole piece during my final exam. I was like: wtf? where did all the info went to? I was blank, but still passed.

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว

This can always happen. Amazing that you still made it and passed!! 👏🏻

While your are practsing, I would recommand to time the time it takes, say 2 minutes 18 seconde for allegro at 150. Work at 140 and time it, then 160. During the week before concert, time your work. It stresses you when you think about things, so empty your mind, but with mental tips " I know how to do it..."

Playing the piano for the audience is like being with a pretty woman by the bed, you can't lose your means in that ultimate moment, out of respect for the audience as for the pretty woman 😉
