This elderly lady is still being punished badly for something not considered a threat to society, however they allow a murderer name Casey Anthony to walk this world free.

This coverage has little to do with the woman. They just want to bring up Trumps name when he didn't support the early releases due to Covid because it's silly. In addition I believe this was some liberal ideas that was pushed at the end of the day she was given a sentence Covid didn't provide an appeal to the sentence. These people will do anything to get us emotional. Democrats find laws to put and keep blacks in jail and then try to hide their hand.

Meanwhile grandma is thrown in prison for missing a phone call while in class. TF?!?!?!?!?

I've always thought (for fitting cases, probably most of them)...if the government spent all that money rehabiliting and training these folks, the societal payoff would be greatly beneficial.
But as long as the system is geared and meant to punish and forgetting about rehabilitation; for that instead, we get misery and lost lives.
The priorities are wacked out in the service of corporations making big money via the run-amuck private prison industrial complex. These in turn donate to politicians to keep things the same or worse.
It is in their mutually shared interests to fear monger for their private benefit instead of helping those they keep behind bars in what would be a much cheaper process in the service of society, through rehabilitation and education; as it's been proven to be the case, time after time and study after study.

What's ridiculous is that the American job centers have staff that her parole officer could have connected with to verify her attendance and engagement with skills training. Some of the parole officers make it mandatory. They assess her barriers to reintegration, and should be assigning tasks meant to overcome those barriers. I bet she even provided that proof that she was in class! When I worked with homeless who had recently been incarcerated (with a nonprofit that had resources not just for recently incarcerated but many populations at risk), the parole officers could connect with me to ensure the client was engaging in training and looking into the resource referrals to mental health assistance etc. I had their contact information! They could even refer the person to me. Often they also took down the contact information of the local American job center as well, because this is casework collaboration. So this was broken and lazy casework on the part of her officer (documenting against her), or on the part of the American job center (failing to follow up on a request of verification). The department of labor provides grants to American job centers specifically so they can use the resources to connect clients with felony friendly employers or training opportunities. So there's no way the parole officer "wasn't aware" of the appropriateness of her engagement with the agency's training programs! It was petty tyranny. There needs to be oversight to ensure that appropriate collaboration is occuring, because nobody should be punished for engaging in community resources that are meant to REDUCE recidivism! Parole officers who would do such a thing need to go!

"Grandma" can easily slip away with the help of a friend or family member. It does not take much effort to pack a few bags, a few boxes, and with a short shuteye, Granny is in PA, DE, NJ, or VA. As long as she does not apply for any government benefits, does not file anything that requires her SSN, or does not catch a misdemeanor arrest, she can stay hidden until the day she died.
It's jacked up, but there is more to the story than she just missed a phone call and she tried to call back immediately. Funny how Grandma did not have anyone who could drive her down to the parole office as soon as it was realized she missed the call? People who miss their court date, as long as the act has not been habitual, they are granted a amnesty window of a few hours to maybe a day or two, to report to the court house, explain why they missed the date, and prevent having a bench warrant put out on them?

Exactly!! Why did they automatically think that she was trying to escape at her age and not think that she may have possibly passed away? At her age there are so many possible reasons as to why she couldn't get to the phone, so why would they automatically go straight to thinking that she was trying to escape?
I'm not going to try to defend her actions either, because she knew how important it was to answer the phone when they called and she did have her phone with her, but turned off. She should have had it on with the ringer on vibrate and she could have avoided this entire situation.

I know America doesn't always do right but America can do more progress. slavery used to be accepted now it isn't homosexuality used to not be accepted now gays can be married.
