We were just at a skatepark in bountiful utah. My son is a beginner skater and was struggling to go up the ramps and some dude pulls out the smollie. First time I've ever heard of this thing. Now we own his. Thanks random guy. We will put this to use.
You met Jake Bascom! That’s his home town park and he’s always got one on him ready to give out! Hope it helps your son get through the early days of a life long addiction!! 🤙
I’ve tried it (my kid has one). I think it’s ideal for getting the feel/balance of a trick/grind/slide. And it’s really not tight enough to teach bad habits. If it helps a higher % of new skaters get their ollie down, it’s a win for that alone.
When I was a teenager I did something almost exactly like this. Only I used my old belt. I used to skateboard from school to the public library and there were lots of curbs and cracks and stuff along the way that got tiring to ollie over, but with the belt on my board like they have this smollie thing I just did a little hop and it took a lot less energy. And if I hit a rock or something I didn't have to worry about not being able to step off the board. Sure wish I had thought to improve the design and patent it. That was back in the late 90s.
Sometimes I feel like flip tricks or just tricks where you leave the board are easier then tricks where you stay connected to the board. I personally sorta skipped some fundamentals like backside and frontside 180 and actually considering using this to go back and get that practice I always needed thanks for the video braille ❤
Dang wish I had something like this growing up. When you see it it’s simple, but that’s how most things that work great seem. Feels like a product that there’s a bit of a learning curve but works best if for the most part you treat it like it’s a normal board. Like when I got a freebord, I had to lock in my mind it was just a snowboard on snow and then I could ride it fine. But when I thought of it as I was on asphalt I struggled to ride it.
This is a great product I was watching this next to my GF who’s never skated and she just looks over my shoulder and goes… “hmm I’d definitely try it with one of those”
Part of me thinks this would be scary but then the other part thinks it would be comforting? JD doing everything with it doesn't help change my feeling cuz he can do anything(he just makes it work)bit this is cool to see something that works and also changes the way you skate and things that are possible 😎👌 enjoy learning about things I never knew about. love braille ❤
You can see the sarcasm in JDs eyes when dude from Hawaii went on the vert ramp.😂 19:16 Honestly you can see the sarcastic excitement in most if your faces. 🤦🏻♂️
Can I get the weights of all the Braille crew? I’m considering making a skateboard to send to them made out of a mystery material I work with but I want to know how thick it needs to be so it won’t break or if it will even work.
my biggest problem is that when i got into skating years ago, i started learning various beginner skills and ended up turning my ankle when my board flipped (it was a weird weight distribution that made me nose stall and turned my ankle) and proceeded to break it. i have fear of rebreaking it by learning even an ollie. any tips?
So honest question, couldn’t this give someone a false sense of security on a board and create bad habits? Update I spoke to soon I should have kept watching. My questions were answered. Interesting product
When I was a kid in school, I “invented this” for some dumb invention convention. Like third grade. 1995. I still have the VHS tape. I’m gonna have to upload it. Lol. 😂 literally identical It was just for fun but yeah
I thought about trying to market something like this about 25 years ago when I was doing a fair bit of inner tube assisted skating. Except I used to put the tube around the middle of the board and hold onto it. Then ya just pull it tight and jump and the board comes up with ya. Then ya could bail without ya feet getting all tangled up in it and break ya friggin ankle. I called it bungee boarding. But I've just spilled my secret and mighta missed my chance to make millions off it. 🤷♂😂
I don't think I like it.I feel like this would not translate.Well, once you don't have it anymore.I think it might be cool at first but I don't think it's going to teach proper habits
So its acts like a normal board but you cant safely kick away anymore? Thinking this falls in the same category as skater trainers. An unnecessary step in learning to skateboard.
😫Seeing JD on this channel makes me feel old....kid got big AF.... still surprised yall don't have drone pilots infesting your park with cine whoops...

Gabe, 19:56 JD is having such a fun time in the ramp. You deserve that same feeling. Take baby steps. You can get there.
I really like your comment 😊 Very encouraging words!
this a whole new way of manipulating Gabe into dropping in, you sound like therapist right now lol - and he still ain't gonna do it.

That's how we used to wrap bike inner tubes around our boards in the 80's. Fun with a rope swing over the vert ramp. 😁
I was just going to comment that we used to call them inner tubes 😂
Funny that's exactly what Aaron said in the video lol

this is legendary and I loved to see him dropping in again reminds me of when they first bought the place lol keep shreddin!
If we practiced long enough we would’ve been popping 1080s😅
Aaron: "I feel like JD's just gonna do like a 1080 on this-"
JD seconds later: *Actually does a 1080*
I feel like you can also use this strap to carry your board around on your back!
that's cool!👍
Clothing shredder 9000 i guess you could do it on the other side but then your clothes are just gonna take all the dogshit from the trucks.
Yes
You should do the highest ollie with the smollie
True hahaha
Biggest Smollie

Aaron dropping in the vertical ramp with straps was savage!! 😮 😅 😊
Awesome training tool!
I'm the same age as you Aaron. I find it hard to believe you never did this with a bike inner tube as a kid.
I did

vert dog! that drop in scared me. ak went right from foot on deck straight to the board ,barely missing the band.

This smollie looks cool. But What is really amazing and unbelievable that skaters developed all the craziest tricks with and kind of ropes and bands
This seems more useful to help carry your board on you back!
