    I can't thank you guys enough for uploading FULL flight videos 😀 not too many channels do that

      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Well I appreciate that. And you're welcome 😀. There is no "guys" though. It's just me running everything here haha. I do everything on this channel by myself, from planning the flights, traveling, filming, editing, uploading, replying to comments, etc. So, I really do appreciate it when people take the time to watch, comment, subscribe. Because I put a lot of work into these videos, and there's a lot more that goes into it then just getting to fly a lot. So thanks my friend!

    All though I don't usually travel at night time I still love night time flights. Also, I love how you put the 4 membership names. If ever choose to become a member, it's definitely going to be this channel.

      Thanks my friend. I appreciate you even considering it. Although, just an FYI. Although I have channel memberships enabled in case people want to support the channel that way, it's actually easier for me to get you all of the promised benefits through Patreon. Which have the exact same membership levels. So, just to keep in the back of your head, should you ever decide you want to do that.

      I do too. Unfortunately, my camera equipment doesn't haha. Even with today's best cameras, flying at night is still a royal pain. If the camera loses focus once in the air, it's very very difficult to get the focus back. Because it's just simply too dark. That's getting better and better though as technology improves. Hopefully I'll be able to feature more night flights, more frequently, going forward.

    • @nemiaidid

      @@sla31 You're correct. I am confident that cameras in the near future will be able to capture much sharper pictures in darkness. At the rate technology is going, we will look back at this comment and smile. Thanks once more for the uploads.

      I'm glad you enjoyed it my friend! As someone who lives near Tulsa (I live near Joplin, Missouri, but Tulsa is the closest bigger city) I often find that Tulsa kind of gets forgotten about. Will you be doing Delta’s inaugural flight from ATL-TLV a week from Sunday? That will be a great video?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not, no. As much as I would love to do those types of inaugural flights, I just don't have the funding to drop that much on single flights. I upload 156 full flights every year, and I do try to have international long haul represented as frequently as possible, but at $2,500 RT just for there and back... That's a lot of money that I could easily get 20 flights for domestically in the US. So, unfortunately not.

    Incredible night video! Appreciate the quality of your video. Taking good video on a plane at night is challenging and very different from day flights. I always have problems trying to eliminate the reflection from the interior cabin light and trying to keep the camera lens in focus. How did you eliminate the reflection during the inflight section? Thank you and great video!

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it's tough, and sometimes it's just luck haha. You can mitigate some of it, but on the other hand, some of it just depends on the crew. If the crew doesn't turn the lights right over the window off, it's almost impossible to not get the reflection. How it mitigate it though... I have a matte black case on my camera, I wear all black including black long sleeves and black gloves, and I try to get a seat where the window doesn't go into the row behind me. And to explain that last one a bit. Sometimes you get a window and it's clearly in your row, but like 1/3rd of it kind of goes past your seat back and slightly goes into the row behind you. If the window does that, you'll see reflections from everything the row behind you is doing. If the window stays in your row, at least then, you can kind of try to block the reflections by holding the camera as close to the window as possible. It's tough though... There's a reason why I don't post many night flights. They're just such a pain to film and film well.

    • @justtravelingandgaming
      @justtravelingandgaming ปีที่แล้ว

      SP -Appreciate the feed back and tips. Never thought about the window / seat placement and how the light can impact that. I will certainly consider seat number now. Looking forward to flying again to try your recommendations to improve my videos. Take is easy and happy flying!

      I know we've talked about this before, but in case anyone else reads this. You might be surprised by Tulsa. As one of the larger cities on Route 66, it has a lot of great American history to see. That and the oil industries past presence in Tulsa gives the city a very unique feel from a lot of other big cities I've been to. Tulsa's downtown has a very interesting skyline, with most of the skyscrapers being art deco type styling from the 1930's. It's really cool to just walk around downtown and look at the really ornate buildings.

    • @scottbridge9391

      @@sla31 One day, I 'll make it there. The mainframe computers for the Sabre Computer Reservation System that travel agents use are in Tulsa. My mom and grandparents lived in Tulsa for a while way back when, but I haven't been there at all.
      The only "oil city" that I've been to is Calgary, AB.
      We have some deco style buildings in Seattle, but the city that REALLY has a lot of that is New York. And they have a whole bunch of other style buildings too.

    In your opinion who do you think provides the overall best experience for passengers right now. United, American or Southwest? I didn't include Delta, Jetblue or Alaska because I feel they are in the higher teirs, though if you don't agree, please feel free to compare them too?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, this is an interesting question. Of course, pretty much everyone is going to have a different opinion on this, but here's mine.
      Currently, I think United is the best US carrier in terms of their product and network. Their Polaris business class is excellent, and they have a great network. There's a reason why in the last two years I switched my highest airline status from American's Platinum Pro, to United's Gold. Because United is just great right now. Which I'm actually loving. As a kid, when United still had their famous battleship livery, I flew on United more than any other airline and for years after that, Untied really struggled. With 9/11 and bankruptcy, even though the UA/CO merger things were just never great. But in the last few years, they've really turned the ship around and I never dread flights on United now. I keep low level stats on basically everyone these days, but I try to have higher status on at least one airlines and United is my go to now.
      On the other end of the spectrum, is American. American, I believe, is at rock bottom right now. And it's not that I don't like American. I worked for American Airlines for 6 years right after I graduated college. I don't anymore, and in case anyone else is reading this, I don't work for any of the airlines now. But, I held a very close brand loyalty towards American for many years, even when they were clearly declining, because I worked for them in the past. But, they're just not good now haha. There's no way to hid it. For many years, primarily the Doug Parker years, American was like a ship without a compass. And their left hand never seemed to know what their right hand was doing. For example, they introduced the only true domestic first class when they introduced the A321T. This was also when they had true international first class on their 773's. But at the same time they were removing IFE and cramming 3 more rows of seats on their 738's and A321's..... So which is it? Are they trying to be "the premier" US airline? Or are they trying to compete for the same passengers that normally fly Spirit? You can't be both and expect people to like you. Anyway, I feel like American's product is still the absolute worst in the US when looking at the legacy style airlines. I mean, you're basically getting a Spirit or Allegiant seat, with a cookie and water haha.
      So there's my top and bottom. I love Southwest, as is probably evident based on how much I fly them. But you can't really compare them to Untied or Delta because they just don't offer the same type of product or network. They're in my top 3 though, which is United, Alaska, and Southwest right now.

    • @NovejSpeed3
      @NovejSpeed3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Skylite Productions Awesome take with some very good points. I also worked for American...albeit envoy throwing bags while I was in college part 1 lol. (Didn't finish the first time). I also flew United back in the days of the battleship Grey, Channel 9 seatback entertainment (do they still have that?) and actual silverware in coach. Continental def was not good for the original "Tulip" we loved. I have not experienced the new United but have heard great things from the fleet and cabin upgrades to better airport customer experiences. Hopefully now the Delta deal is done, UALs pilots will be rewarded appropriately...same for Southwest. Anyways I had United at the bottom of the top because well the last time I flew them (2012ish) that's where they were. Removing the in seat entertainment was a terrible move and I'm so happy they're back tracking on that. I forgot about Polaris though....honestly I've never experienced it that's why hahahaha.
      I grew up in Aurora outside of Denver. So it's great to hear from a passenger whose opinion I really respect say the airline to which I had an opportunity to tour their training center and plane spot at Stapleton, say they are back to number 1! Funny enough, I now live outside Atlanta.....so it's kind of confusing when I say the "hometown airline"...am I talking about United or Delta....Sometimes I don't even know LOL
      Lastly, have you ever noticed Southwest's 737-800s/Max 8s seem to have a little more legroom compared to the others' economy sections? I'm 5'7" and I remember flying on Americans then newly ordered A319 with the big winglets back when they still had seatback IFE. My knees had about an inch from touching the back of the seat in front of me. Exactly to your point about them!

    How many times do you fly each week?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I actually don't fly every week. I fly roughly 8-10 days each month. But when I do fly, I'm flying with no other purpose than to get footage for the channel. So, I often take 3 or 4 segments each day. Sometimes even 5, and my record is 6 in one day. That's how I get enough footage to post every day, without having to fly every day, or even every week. Case in point, I haven't flown at all in 7 days, and I won't fly again for another 4 days. But, then I fly 3 days and another 4 days before March ends. For a total of 20 flights the next two weeks.

    Does TH-cam really pay enough to cover the cost of all this flying?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, most of the time it doesn't. Sometimes though, yes. It depends haha. How's that for a non answer. This is my full time job now. Or at least, I'm attempting to make it that. But, since I started to do this full time, I've lost money more months than I made any. That's why I have over 50 Patreons and channel members. If I was consistently making enough to cover all my expenses without asking for my viewers to help support the channel, I would. TH-cam ad revenues is an ever changing and tricky thing to predict. So, there are some months where I'e made enough to cover all of my flying expenses, and I'm trying to make that the norm. But, as of this moment, I'm going to lose money again in the first quarter of 2023. Regardless, the TH-cam ad revenues do help A LOT either way.

      They did do a service, I just didn't partake haha. Sometimes, I don't when it's a short flight.
